Another random edison issue. Son's at school, I'm at work and loop hasn't run for 2 hrs. Papertrail is stuck at Mar 16 18:09:45 localhost kernel: [30022.490094] Dongle Host Driver, version 1.141.59 (r) on localhost and Mar 16 18:09:44 edisonhost ns-loop.log: Uploaded on edisonhost.
I'm pretty sure we are online cos I am getting bgl through share
I've seen the loop hang like this a few times now,
but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why it happens
anyone having similar issues?

If papertrail stops reporting, you need to see if you can get into the rig to see what is really going on.
If it's a network issue you might need to plug in UART console

OK, got it. Just a matter of waiting for it to happen when I'm around with a laptop and USB cable. Guess it could be dropping the BT link with the phone or something like that...

If so, then starting wifi hotspot should get it back online.

COB seems to be wrong in upload/ns-status.json with devrig: ,"COB":116. Wonder how it gets there . How is the value of the COB pill in Nightscout computed and shown? The active (old stable rig) has ,"COB":0 and Nightscout pill shows 45.5 (which seems right afaict).

I would say the openaps version likely doesn't matter for COB calculations. But @PieterGit's find about ns-meal-carbs likely does. would someone currently experiencing the problem like to try limiting that curl to a few hours to see if that helps? If so, I think the permanent fix will be in determine-basal, to make sure it ignores carbs older than a few hours regardless of what gets downloaded from NS (which oven varies due to timezones and method of carb entry)

Dana Lewis

NS cob is not guaranteed to be correct. It tries to pull from OpenAPS but if t fails it reverts back to a static decay. I would turn that pill off as it causes/will cause confusion and complicate troubleshooting real COB problems in OpenAPS.
So let's turn off NS cob and focus on OpenAPS cob in logs and pill, since that's what impacts looping operations.
And in short term, if you see a weird cob that seems wrong: immediately set a high temp target for safety if you are concerned.
Mike
@libxmike

@PieterGit wait a second. are you looking at the "carbs" field or the "mealCOB" field?
"carbs" has nothing to do with which ones are active. it just records how many carbs the system knows about over the last however many hours it's getting data for. mealCOB is the only thing it actually uses in AMA
PieterGit

Too be honest…Many of us have found problems with COB even being ENABLED at all on heroku. Causes our sites to be super laggy and have critical errors. We’ve taken COB off the ENABLE line in our site settings…not just turned it off of the display.
JELCRAWFORD

Mar 17 2017 17:46
@Kdisimone I assume that means you can't use AMA then?
Scott Leibrand

most definitely not. AMA works great without an explicit COB pill display. you can still see COB in the OpenAPS pill.
JELCRAWFORD

Mar 17 2017 17:49
Oh. You mean disabling (or removing) cob from NS. Openaps still needs cob...
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 17 2017 17:49
The only thing we're recommending deleting is the secondary, usually incorrect, "COB Pill" on NS that only shows cob. But if you're running OpenAPS and AMA, you're doing it for dynamic carb absorption so you'd want to see OpenAPS pill anyway to see cob status.
Exactly. Just removing that display.

You can still use openaps…like they’ve stated. Not a problem. and i can still enter carbs

@danamlewis just to clarify my statements…the COB for several of us needs to be more than just “not displayed”. it needs to be removed as a plugin from the enable line. It was killing our heroku site. Wouldn’t load, pebble errors out, rig stops working because it couldn’t fetch BGs after the errors piled up on Heroku and memory capped out.

Really hoping someone from the NS side can look into it who knows more about the COB plugin. Openaps is working great without the COB plugin though.

Yeah. I think I've found what I needed. I was originally going to try to do the Edison build, but met with someone who has done openaps before (bill stackpole) and he suggested doing the pi 3 first just to get it set up, because the edison could be a pain to flash. @JELCRAWFORD yes, you might benefit from fixing the ns-meal-carbs curl. worth a try at least. I still intend to dive into that a big deeper before we get 0.5.0 released.
@ejoe132 you shouldn't get any password request there: you're already root, and just changing the hostname. you can cat /etc/hosts to make sure it updated.

ok, thanks dj. And the instructions I was sent to are now showing to connect a serial cable? I didn't see it in the original supply list.. am afraid I don't have one. Do I need it?
Chuck Vann
@djtechman
Mar 17 2017 19:57
@zaheria985 I believe serial cable is for the edison only. (Even then, it's a standard USB Micro cable) WIth Pi I usually connect a monitor and keyboard the first time around so I can run raspiconfig and set SSH to enabled. Then I use ifconfig to figure out which IP address it's on, maybe set up wifi while i'm at it. After that I can connect via ssh terminal without having a keyboard/monitor connected. What I'm saying may vary from the instructions though. The guide is always your best bet
If the guide says use serial, you'll connect a micro-USB (common for most phone chargers these days) from your PCs USB port to the Raspi's power port, I think
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 17 2017 19:59
the Pi's power port can't be used for serial console AFAIK
to get serial direct to the Pi, you'd have to have a special serial cable with pins that you attach individually to that long row of double pins along the top side
so it's easier to connect directly to the Ethernet jack, or connect a monitor and keyboard
Chuck Vann
@djtechman
Mar 17 2017 20:00
ah, I was afraid of that. I know my way around a Pi more than most so I dont mean to confuse. Serial sounds like the more challenging way though if you have ti connect to GPIO pins

I have a question about XdripAPS "camping mode"... Xdrip+ only allows one config for REST upload, and the examples given say to use a static IP.
I want to use camping mode all the time if possible.
...but the rest of the guide seems to recommend allowing the APS rig to grab home wifi, etc as a primary means. Every time APS rig connects to a new network, its IP will change. Is there any way to configure Xdrip+ to find the APS rig by hostname or something else that will work across multiple network connections?
maybe I'm doing it all wrong...even when Xdrip+ is also configured to use Mongo upload, I see the setting for "ignore when on local lan"... but any routed network will be on that 192.168 subnet no?

@gregtcm yeah bluetooth PAN is finicky at best. I have a rooted HTC 10 and I use "Bluetooth Tethering Manager" app to keep it alive.

@danamlewis Hi I want to take a shot a Pr'ing the 512 docs. Now that i have 2 rigs rolling right now i would like to possibly setup the 2nd with my 512 and do the steps to get it looping. Itseems like there needs to be multiple reports added for it to loop properly( as the diagram i have see on twitter for matthias. I just would like to compile the information form the 512 users and make something mor defined. I would like in some way contribute to the openaps community, seeing people answer all my silly questions. 2 things i have noticed i did wrong. 1st i did into add the reports through openaps toolkit. Me being a PC oriented individual i just pasted them in the directory thinking that would be fine. 2nd of all i was using pretty dead battery, which could-of shut the RF off, that was why i was always getting a -99. So i would like to try to come up with more specific directions with a possible diagram on the reports that need to be added through openaps toolkit.

@scottleibrand configuring the local networks to utilize hostname-based URL would be one way, but I'm not sure what that takes on the router's end of things.
gregtcm
@gregtcm
Mar 17 2017 20:36
@scottleibrand I think ideally the REST upload would be able to use the hostname, or have multiple ip addresses it could try.

@peterfulvi :+1:
Chuck Vann
@djtechman
Mar 17 2017 20:37
@gregtcm yeah the 2nd option fits Scott's recommendation for an xdrip feature request.... a priority list of IPs for REST upload
I think that the hostname solution may take some work on each router you connect to, but I'm not certain
gregtcm
@gregtcm
Mar 17 2017 20:37
I think the issue of the hostname is acutally an android issue, though, but I don't know if there is a work around.
I can't ping or ssh to the rig using the hostname when I'm connected with either wifi hotspot or bluetooth tether.
Chuck Vann
@djtechman
Mar 17 2017 20:39
yeah I'm not clear on that part, got my network guru on the horn now :)
gregtcm
@gregtcm
Mar 17 2017 20:40
I've also been considering modifing the hosts file (if there is one!) and setup various hosts on the android for each ip address. Then maybe the REST upload settings might be easier to change with names like "ed1", "ed2", "ed3", etc.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 17 2017 20:40
as far as an xdrip+ feature request, it seems like just having multiple IPs to try would be simplest and would resolve it, no?
gregtcm
@gregtcm
Mar 17 2017 20:41
That would be a start for sure.
That or figure out how to resolve the ip address from the hostname. This might be easy, but I would have to defer to the android experts on that.
Chuck Vann
@djtechman
Mar 17 2017 20:43
so if xdrip was running linux, yes we could map that hostname to multiple IPs in the /etc/hosts
gregtcm
@gregtcm
Mar 17 2017 20:44
I'm rooted, so I'm pretty sure I have access to a hosts file of some sort. I'd have to look into it. And I didn't know you could map one hostname to multiple IP addresses. That would be perfect in the meantime.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 17 2017 20:45
you can try that, but no guarantees about it trying the correct one
I'm not sure how the retry logic works, if at all
Chuck Vann
@djtechman
Mar 17 2017 20:45
the alternative would be to do the domain mapping on each wifi router, I'm going to try this out shortly
Matthias
@ceben80
Mar 17 2017 20:45
on android that's really an hostname issue, due to this fact I am only running bt tethering, wlan0 is disabled, with bt I only have the same IP

doing hostname/domains on a local network requires a router that's capable of mapping MAC address to hostname. (Most home routers can't do this) - or - a dns controller on each local network. I'm afraid this is straying too far from the intended purpose. I don't think I can build a dns controller for every wifi network I will use. Either greg's going to win the race, or we're going to put in a request for multiple REST targets in xdrip and go back to forced bt-pan in the mean time :)

so if .local doesn't work, find the IP address via your console session with ifconfig and then try sshing directly to that

run that command manually if you want to see what's failing

@scottleibrand : you mean a fix in determine-basal.js? But am I right that the COB issues seems a regression issue on dev, or has it been around longer. Do you know a kiwi or aussie that can check the fix for limiting it. There is no need to ask a couple of days of treatments data I suppose?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 17 2017 22:38
I don't have any evidence yet that this is a regression: I think it's been happening basically forever, and we're just now fixing all the other things that look similar so we can see it

@scottleibrand you mean run old pump history?

so would I just enter old pump history as a command entry?
PieterGit

Mar 17 2017 22:40
@ejoe132 @scottleibrand : i also had this issue today. a workaround for me was to stop the loops (/etc/init.d/cron stop ) and run the pump-loop manual from the prompt. I did a mmtune.py before that because I have a ww pump. That made the loop start and i could enable cron again

Mar 17 2017 22:41
@ejoe132 killall -g openaps; openaps refresh-old-pumphistory-24h would do it
PieterGit
@PieterGit
Mar 17 2017 22:42
got down into the COB issue, which influence the loop, so was'nt able to debug it.
@ejoe132 : you could also try to remove the /dev/null parts in the alias to see if that gives more helpfull information
ejoe132
@ejoe132
Mar 17 2017 22:43
@scottleibrand @PieterGit Its odd because in the log it is still saying the same thng error retrying but it has started implementing a temp basal again?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 17 2017 22:43
and to drill down further, you can look at what that alias is/does by doing openaps alias show pumphistory-24h. based on that, you might want to do killall -g openaps; openaps report invoke settings/pumphistory-24h.json to see what's happening without the /dev/null part

@scottleibrand what is the difference between COBpredBG and aCOBpredBG
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 17 2017 23:04
aCOBpredBG is "accelerated" - it uses 10mg/dL/5m, vs. COBpredBG using the observed current absorption rate.
aCOBpredBG is just used to draw a purple line in NS, not for any dosing decisons

When doing the bluetooth for raspberry pi... is crontab supposed to be a new file, or are you supposed to be editing a file?

first off, what do you mean by "bluetooth for raspberry pi"?
what part of the docs are you trying to follow?

Connecting the bluetooth for it to my phone.
I've got it paired, but I'm trying to make it check every minute.

that is done by oref0-online, which is added to cron by oref0-setup
if you haven't run oref0-setup yet and had it set up your cron, you might be doing things a bit out of order

@ejoe132 @libxmike @scottleibrand : i just got my new dev branch running again without errors, by calling killall -g openaps ; /usr/local/bin/mmtune.py --subg_rfspy --radio_locale WW --port /dev/mmeowlink --serial 123456. Can there be a difference between calling mmtune from the cli and from openaps environment?

If you are looking for a case for your ExplorerBoard / Big Sparkfun ala this kind of setup:

They fit perfectly! And yes, I am trying out Qi charging again...still seems to get insanely hot. @danamlewis , @jasoncalabrese , @tim2000s
