@danamlewis the new layout looks great. It is easier to visualize each group section and jump right to it. I looked using cell. Links worked fine. And font size worked out good on mine.

I am having trouble getting BT Tethering working. Went through the docs, I get the BT to connect when I do this sudo bt-pan client AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF, but when I test to see if connects automatically from shutting wifi with iwconfig wlan0 txpower off; sleep 120; iwconfig wlan0 txpower auto I get nothing. Where should I start poking around to look for the error?

@danamlewis And, the proposed new layout looks fabulous, easy to navigate and easy to read! Good job!

@scottleibrand wow. No coffee. I lived in Louisiana as a child. You know...3 years ago. I grew up in a small little place with about 6 houses. We left a drip grind pot ready to cook in case someone came over and we weren't there to make it. You Sims turned on the stove brewed the coffee and drank the pot while waiting. Then you got it ready again for when they got home and drank more together as you talked. I grew.up from about 6 till now with strong black coffee.
@webwiztn you neither? Wow. Long Friday ahead.

@applehat nah - there’s a few people coming down from various parts of TN that will show up mid-morning. there’s a few other Hsv/Madison residents who I’m not sure yet would prefer to come for lunchtime or late afternoon/early evening.
I’m happy to hang out as long as I know there’s still people coming, so 4pm is fine by me.

I guess I'm really only coming to look at people's rigs, since I haven't bought an Edison yet, and my pump is a 751. I'm a while out from being able to get a rig going and be much of a contribution.

@scottleibrand crontab was wrong so I fixed that. When I go to shut wifi off to see if BT will pick up, this is what I get: iwconfig wlan0 txpower off; sleep 120; iwconfig wlan0 txpower auto
Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Input/output error.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand

will give that a go
jcorbett80
@jcorbett80
Mar 23 2017 00:59 UTC
@davidkeddydb I got that a lot when testing bluetooth between android and rig. I had to do a hard power cycle on my rig to overcome it with my setup.
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:04 UTC
@jcorbett80 Yeah I can't get the iphone to just switch to BT when I switch wifi off using iwconfig wlan0 txpower off; sleep 120; iwconfig wlan0 txpower auto to test it
jcorbett80
@jcorbett80
Mar 23 2017 01:06 UTC
The error message is what the hard cycle fixed. It then found my bluetooth but since I can't run BT teather thanks to my provider it won't work. But the error no longer happened.
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:07 UTC
I am pretty sure my provider allows it, but I better double check that just to be sure that isnt the hold up
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 23 2017 01:07 UTC
if your iPhone shows Personal Hotspot and you can switch it on there, you should be good
when the carrier blocks it, that option goes away
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:07 UTC
Yeah, and it does
I can do that and have for years
jcorbett80
@jcorbett80
Mar 23 2017 01:08 UTC
To reestablish wifi connection through the rig wlan0 I had to run wlan power auto or on by itself.
Who is your provider
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:09 UTC
I wonder if I have an issue in my network/interface file. I will check it. I have Verizon as provider
jcorbett80
@jcorbett80
Mar 23 2017 01:09 UTC
Att does not allow in the US. That is who I have. They even block foxfi
garykidd
@garykidd
Mar 23 2017 01:12 UTC
so if you run the setup script with bt option and enter the mac address---should you have to do anything else to get bt working.....i continue to have issue swith wifi hotspot via iphone 6
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:12 UTC
yeah my network interface file, Wlan0 is correct. auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
wpa-roam /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:13 UTC
@garykidd Yeah, like @danamlewis posted. I have done that, I have Iphone 6 as well on Verizon. I get the darn thing to connect and I can see it connect, then I disconnect and do the turn off wifi to see if it connects and nothing
I see the hostname for the edison in my bluetooth items on iphone listed as not connected
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 23 2017 01:15 UTC
at this point I would re-run oref0-setup: it sounds like you've been changing things manually and don't have all the pieces working together quite right
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:17 UTC
You may be right. What a difference how set up has come from when I got started last October to now. I read the docs after getting a flashed Edison. Fantastic. Huge work everyone did. It is awesome
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 23 2017 01:18 UTC
@davidkeddydb you did a setup with a pre-flashed Edison? anything else that needs adjusting for that workflow? (and thanks!)
David
@davidkeddydb
Mar 23 2017 01:19 UTC
@danamlewis I still can't do a PR to save my life. I think as long as you know to serial console in via usb initially onto the pre-flashed to set up wifi and the like, it is way easy

@mhaeberli, @tim2000s and I have both tried independently and with Qi charging, the Edison gets blazingly hot...as opposed to when you do wired charging. Both of our rigs overheated / got borked...in addition, I was watching the charge rates on the battery, it is was not picking up any more juice...I think all the power was going to overheating the Edison. But hey, if you can get it to work, give me a shout, will you? :)

@logichammer induction charging generally produces heat... however I've managed to kill two QI receivers so far in my efforts to wirelessly charge my rig... I think the awkward way I folded the ribbon cables led to my problems both times... they each worked exactly once, and then wouldn't work again :( My edison is still fine.... I'm out of spare QI receivers so I don't know that I'll keep trying
I think the receivers themselves are actually fine, it's the flat ribbon cable to the USB that died

hm, how can i tell openaps to stop attempting to download glucose data from a medtronic pump and start pulling blood sugars from nightscout?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 23 2017 05:38 UTC
@j4cbo if it’s got a NS URL, it should try NS first if it’s online
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 05:39 UTC
"openaps device remove cgm"; "openaps device add cgm <something>"?
nightscout's blood sugar display is showing current readings, but the openaps pill says "The last BG data was read at Fri Jan 17 2017" (which is probably the last time i had an enlite in)
or wait - are you now using Dexcom?
also re-run the setup script and tell it about your new CGM if you changed CGM types
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 05:41 UTC
yeah, i've switched to dexcom
(you might want to pull from your run-again and change cgm type; or to be safe, just run from scratch but first save your run-again to check and make sure you get all your features enabled that you want)

@bmammon did you establish a SSH connection from your mobil e.g. - does this work?
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 06:22 UTC
i wish gitter had better search... i'm pretty sure i saw someone ask about this but i can't find it:
i finally got around to resetting my pump for DST about an hour ago. nightscout's IOB pill and openaps's idea of IOB (as reported through the openaps pill) both seem to be stuck at what it was then
i guess openaps calculates IOB on its own, separately from the pump?
Benjamin Mammon
@bmammon
Mar 23 2017 06:25 UTC
@ceben80 Yes, I established an SSH connection and it runs
I just also have it hooked up to a monitor
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 06:30 UTC
also... nightscout isn't reporting the active temp basal o.o
Matthias
@ceben80
Mar 23 2017 06:31 UTC
@bmammon
and before going into the 1st overnight loop, did you run your loop sufficiently during the day?
Sorry regarding your monitor q I don't have experiences, never attached a monitor on a pi
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 23 2017 06:35 UTC
@j4cbo you might want to refresh on the reference design. OpenAPS calculates netIOB which includes effect of temps.
Pump never ever takes into consideration temps or suspends so bolus wizard iob is flat out wrong
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 06:36 UTC
no, i understand that
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 06:36 UTC
in this case, pump IOB was decaying as expected; nightscout/openaps IOB was remaining stuck at 7.2
but it's dropping now
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 23 2017 06:38 UTC
@bmammon not sure what screen you are talking about; but if you enabled cron it should run automatically. Use Nightscout or tail the logs remotely to confirm if you are not sure; in addition you will also be able to see on the pump if/when temps are set
j4cbo
@j4cbo
Mar 23 2017 06:38 UTC
so i think openaps was calculating IOB based on pump-reported localtime of boluses
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Mar 23 2017 06:39 UTC
If you messed up times on devices, yes things can get funky. So be careful and change all in one swoop.
*funky for NS display; loop should operate just fine regardless

Mar 23 2017 06:40 UTC

@j4cbo we usually change time when there's not a lot of IOB, to minimize the effect of boluses being an hour off.

Looking for any tips anyone has for this problem:Im having to manually restart the rig alot becasue of unresponsivness. Mainly happening when switching or going from one wifi network to another. For example when leaving work itll be working on work wifi so I turn on hotspot on my phone and leave, itll connect to phone but not do anything. Other times itll happen when coming home and Ill hop on computer and trail log and after a few minutes doing that itll sometimes start looping again or I have to restart. This may be a dumb question, but what’s the recommended method to bolus for a meal? Since openAPS is learning my sensitivities and whatnot, I’d like to use it to calculate my bolus and then just tell my pump how many units. Is there a way to do that?
(I would manually tell my pump how many units, not suggesting openAPS would initiate the bolus)

Mar 23 2017 15:46 UTC
If you're using iNet app on an iPhone it can scan Bluetooth.
You just have to tell it yes, you want to scan without wifi, and then set the custom IP range to 172.20.10.1 through .15 or similar.
@andrew-anguiano there is no bolus wizard built into OpenAPS. Do you have AMA turned on?

What @danamlewis does since she doesn't want to use the pump bolus wizard is enter the carbs, bolus manually using the easy bolus button (up arrow) for 2/3 to 3/4 of the carbs (with simplified mental math) and then let AMA do the rest.

Many others use the pump bolus wizard and then reduce the recommended bolus somewhat. There are also two custom preferences.json settings to let you make the bolus wizard do smaller boluses while letting OpenAPS do the rest.
Andrew Anguiano
@andrew-anguiano
Mar 23 2017 15:53 UTC
@hilarykoch Not sure that this is relevant since I’m late to the party, but is it possible that you’re required to accept terms and conditions before the hospital wifi will let you access the internet? If so, that may be why the rig isn’t accessible/showing up.
@scottleibrand Thanks, I’ll look into that!

A point of note on network connectivity. If you have bt tethering to a phone, most Android 6 devices and up will act as an access point and allow you to share the wifi connection through the Bluetooth tether. Then you don't need to configure on the rig.
It's the main reason I've just updated my cheap OpenAPS phone.

Ideally I'd like to come up with a "simpler" version of Loop that could be used just for visualization of temp basals and bolusing... and only uploading carb data to NS
(since OpenAPS would already be picking up the bolusing and temp basals)
well, maybe temp targets would be useful too :)
but currently to use both at the same time, you basically disable NS uploading completely in Loop, which means you're then left to enter carb data manually in care portal :(

So this has nothing to do with OpenAPS, but I don't really know any other diabetics to consult. I got a dexcom a few days ago... and I thought I was pretty in control of my blood sugar... but im all over the place. I ate around 10:30 ~ roughly 70g of carbs. I used my bolus wizard like I always do... and my blood sugar just kept climbing. Just now I bolus'd a bunch more insulin (sugary stuff on stand by just incase) because im at 360mg/dl.

Is it normal for it to spike and then eventually come back down? That was an hour and a half ago and im starting to get concerned. I've been having issues like this since I started the Dexcom, but I had also started a new infusion set that same day and thought maybe the site I was infusing at was just not great... but I changed it this morning and i'm still having the issue.

Im basically curious if this is somewhat normal and I am just seeing it now that I have a larger data set, or if I have some sort of insulin resistance I didn't realize.

@applehat a lot of us refer to going on a CGM for the first time as "information overload" - there really is a LOT going on that you were probably unaware of before
Cameron Chunn
@applehat

Cameron Chunn
@applehat
Mar 23 2017 17:10 UTC
i keep doing manual blood tests too thinking the CGM may be wrong, but nah.
the dexcom has been acurrate to about +/- 10mg/dl
sarahspins
@sarahspins
Mar 23 2017 17:11 UTC
if the #'s are right, then is it possible you were doing something different before? Pre-bolusing more, or eating fewer carbs or something?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 23 2017 17:12 UTC
I would definitely consider doing an eating soon mode, if this turns out to be a recurring thing and not a bad site or something.
sarahspins
@sarahspins
Mar 23 2017 17:13 UTC
timing for me is CRITICAL for avoiding spikes... if I get it right, I can eat huge amounts of carbs and not see #'s much above about 150, but if I get it wrong (or a site fails, for example) I can go sky high
Cameron Chunn
@applehat
Mar 23 2017 17:13 UTC

Mar 23 2017 17:13 UTC
@applehat stupid advice from a T3 diabetic (parent of T1) - originally from an endo… say you’re eating 50 grams and are now at 120… or 80… then bolus and eat. if you are at 200, say, bolus including correction to target, wait 15 minutes, THEN eat (or in other words, plan your meal ahead, check BG 15 minutes before meal, if in range , wait to bolus and then eat; if above range, bolus NOW and set timer; start eating in 15 minutes...

sarahspins

I don't bolus the full amount, but it helps to get "some" insulin working beforehand
Cameron Chunn
@applehat
Mar 23 2017 17:14 UTC

My issues isn't so much a "spike" that comes back down to normal as much as it feels like its a spike that goes up and then levels off. Like the insulin is keeping me from going into the 400+ range but not much more.

I will indeed start trying the pre-bolus tho and see if I can get that to work.

Thank you guys.

I don't have an OpenAPS yet =(
Im plagued with a 751
sarahspins
@sarahspins
Mar 23 2017 17:16 UTC
it may be that your ratios are off - I think a LOT of people come to OpenAPS using too much basal, and not enough bolus, or the other way around... few have things truly "tuned in" adequately to start with
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 23 2017 17:16 UTC
You can do autotune with just NS data if you can get your boluses and carbs entered (even manually with care portal)
And OpenAPS can at least read from a 751, if you want to build a read-only rig to avoid manual data entry.
(While you try to find a loopable pump, presumably)
Cameron Chunn
@applehat
Mar 23 2017 17:17 UTC
@scottleibrand I hadn't even considered a read-only rig to start off with.

sarahspins
@sarahspins

it took from 10am to about 8pm to go from 94% (I've actually never seen higher than this) to 40%... so that means I'm ONLY getting about 11 hours of battery life with a 2000mah battery.. is that typical? I was under the impression that ~16 was more like what I should expect :(

So arrived in HI late last night. Have been having time troubles (xDrip uploader phone didn't update its time). Had to manually invoke all reports, as they were created with a time in the future and loop wouldn't overwrite them to correct.
Now seeing this:
root@ubitwo:~/myopenaps# cat nightscout/uploaded-entries.json
{
  "status": 500,
  "message": "Mongo Error",
  "description": {
    "index": 0,
    "code": 11000,
    "name": "MongoError",
    "driver": true,
    "message": "E11000 duplicate key error index: jmcrawford_t1d.entries.$_id_ dup key: { : \"58d2fd1c60d609d61c9345ec\" }",
    "errmsg": "E11000 duplicate key error index: jmcrawford_t1d.entries.$_id_ dup key: { : \"58d2fd1c60d609d61c9345ec\" }"
  }
I see these duplicates (and others) in the Mongo db. There is a block of time from yesterday that seems to have duplicated, probably some overlap where one device updated its time while in transit but the others didn't.
I'll clean up the dups, see if that fixes the issue

log in as edison and do crontab -r to delete that one, and then log back in and make sure the root one is correct (re-run oref0-setup if needed)
you can also delete the /home/edison/myopenaps (~/myopenaps when logged in as edison) for good measure if you like

@garykidd Each user (edison, root, etc) can have their own crontab, stored in different files. Each user needs to manage their own. If you created one as the Edison user, you'd need to clean that out as Edison.

My problem: One night my pump battery ran low and the Raspberry Pi with TI Stick (PiTi) didn´t loop anymore even after fixing the battery problem. As I would like to have a backup for my Edison/Explorer Board I set up PiTi completely new (new SD card, different Raspberry, new setup) but with the same TI Stick. Everything seemed to be just fine but then the loop stopped and again PiTi doesn´t even communicate with the pump. Is it possible that the battery-run-low-problem did some damage to the TI Stick? Can I fix this somehow?
Here´s the output after doing an openaps use pump model:

@scottleibrand @danamlewis pardon me, I’m still trying to think myself out of my confusion…if I npm list -g oref0 then I see 0.4.2 for oref0 which corresponds to looking in github at the package.json and files that list oref0 version 0.4.2. BUT, the openaps version 0.1.5 that comes up at the end of the dependencies installation I’m thinking is actually just a tragic coincidence to the fact that the oref0 release also happens to have been 0.2.0 [but subsequent updates (via “tags”) moved oref0 to 0.4.2. which I had not noticed at first]. So is it fair to say that the line that comes up at the end of dependencies install (openaps 0.1.5) is actually just installing an old version of something (fill in the word because I never got familiar with the manual setup process yet) that subsequently it all gets updated by the next lines anyways? I apologize for the hard time typing this all out…just trying to sort myself through the confusion so that I can understand better. It’s feeling like I don’t quite understand exactly how openaps fits into the scheme which i suspect is from not knowing the manual process so well.

@danamlewis I probably should have said something yesterday, but I don't really dig the "darker" headings on the new RTD theme.. I think it's actually MORE difficult to see what section everything is under now, because that grey blends in too much with the dark grey background of the sidebar :(

still getting long breaks while tail'ing pump loop log...
Pumphistory-24 less than 20m old

Starting pump-loop at Thu Mar 23 18:52:09 EDT 2017:
