@dmdfreak is it always the same old time, or is it generally a few minutes behind? have you ever logged in to the rig to look at the contents of glucose.json etc?

Hi all, any tips for trouble-shooting an edison that stops responding? We get this most days now, which makes Looping at school pretty difficult. The Papertrail log just stops rolling, and we get "OpenAPS is not looping" on NS. Updated to latest dev last night.
When this happened before I checked the logs after rebooting, but found nothing that hinted at the problem.
If the rig was overheating, is there any kind of temperature logging I could look at?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Mar 28 2017 00:45
when it stops responding, is it non-responsive on console too?
Paul Dickens

Yes, it was last time I checked
(I'm not with Oli right now, so don't know ATM)

weird. I would probably look at getting a second rig, and then swapping the Edison and Explorer boards to see which piece the problem follows

have you tried redoing the Explorer board radio chip firmware (subg_rfspy) with ccprog?
PopcornPam

I'm not sure how to do that
Are those in the docs?
docs search is your friend. (if you didn't know about ccprog you could've done http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/search.html?q=subg_rfspy&check_keywords=yes&area=default)

@danimaniac yes, i'll probably give that a try eventually, but haven't done any 3d printing yet so wanted to start from a known good design ;). i assume we won't be needing a complete charge every night, but wanted to make sure we would have battery available for the whole day. if it becomes a problem i will swap it out.

Mar 28 2017 02:38
Not that I can think of, but things were working fine apart from not connecting to my cell phone hotspot until Saturday night, then, while I tried to fix that, the whole system stopped working
A friend suggested that if the battery got reallly low it could have messed something up
but it keeps saying hte chip id is 0x00
is it possible to replace that chip? or time ot get a whole new explorer board?
jdunn42
@jdunn42
Mar 28 2017 02:42
The chip is part of the explorer board. If you don't have a second rig, I would recommend it. Not only gives you redundancy, it helps in troubleshooting.

do we have to follow 'a. then b.' , or 'a. or b.' ?
Matthias
@ceben80
Mar 28 2017 08:48
@elodaille01 you don't need this to be done manually, the setup oref0-setup.shhas included all components by using cgm=--xdrip
afterwards xdrip needs to be configured as descripted in rtd (API Upload REST) e.g. http://api-scret@rig-ip:5000/api/v1/

Mar 28 2017 08:55
(just for Xdrip+, isn't it ?)
Matthias
@ceben80

think you can use also xdrip, but xdrip+ is recommended

@ceben80
Mar 28 2017 08:58
with wixel
elodaille01
@elodaille01
Mar 28 2017 08:58
ok
..I didn't succeed in installing Xdrip+ on my uploader phone !
but with this version..it could be ok ?
Matthias
@ceben80
Mar 28 2017 08:59
so the BGs are transfer to your rig (same ip network, offline) and when you have internet connectivity the BGs are uploaded via mongodb upload to NS
on my phone it works, but give it a try, but you'll loose you xdrip config and data
elodaille01
@elodaille01
Mar 28 2017 09:00
so..if I resume (offline looping script) : step 1 : run the script oref0 cd && ~/src/oref0/bin/oref0-setup.sh --btmac=AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF
Matthias
@ceben80
Mar 28 2017 09:01
if you have any xdrip+ related questions join to this room here
https://gitter.im/jamorham/xDrip-plus
elodaille01
@elodaille01
Mar 28 2017 09:02
step 2 : pair my uploader phone with the rig (bluetooth connection)
(ok thanks for the link)
step 3 : modify the url in 'api upload rest'
Matthias
@ceben80
Mar 28 2017 09:03
and with xdripparameter as cgm source :wink:
elodaille01

I'm having a lot of wifi troubles with my Pi2B+ and Edimax EW-7811UN. Wifi works great before I run the script in crontab. Once I start looping though, wifi drops 30 seconds later. Starts up again after unplugging/replugging wifi adapter but only for another 10-15 seconds. I have a wall adapter, i've turned off power management, and i've even tried setting cron jobs to reset wifi but nothing seems to be able to keep wifi and openaps both running. Is this a power issue? The mouse and keyboard still work fine with openaps running.

News about HomeMade Insulin Pump...
It's not really a pump, but a proof-of-concept, unfortunatelly.
They managed to "measure" (and by measure I mean comparing the look of the drops of the " " " pump " " " and an insulin pen) an accuracy of 0.5 units.
Also, the device (I won't name it pump, at least not yet) is pretty similar in functionality with the Pendiq insulin pen. The difference is that the accuracy is less than the Pendiq's, and this one can be controlled via an Android device.
They have a website, but it doesn't provide much information: http://xprojects.ro/?p=664

I understand "looping" means no temp basal was sent the pump, since there is no difference between the current basal rate and the computed temporary basal ? Enacted would mean a temporary basal was set ?
Mike

@lsandini correct, suggested basal was set/enacted

are you authenticated on your phone? (with your API code)
when you update your settings you should see success at the bottom
sometimes it take me 3 or 4 tries but eventually I will see success and it will work (or I will see an error like not authenicated)
this is at the bottom of admin tools and profile editor

@diabetic_dude_twitter Please do not expect perfection from my case...you might actually be the first to print after I made my final revisions! A fellow OpenAPS'er printed a test design prior. I do not have access to a printer myself. I ordered one through an online printer, but I have never received the printed case (I am in the process of resolving that). Please private message some photos to me after the print is finished. I would be interested in the fit and finish. Man, I hope it all fits correctly!

@ejoe132
Mar 28 2017 14:30
@danimaniac Awesome thank you. Im trying to make mine without any vents and want to add a gasket after printing, trying to make it as water tight as possible for hiking/biking/kayaking, but well see how it works, I have concerns with over heating but well see, even thing of adding a heat sink through the case.
dan lightner
@danimaniac
Mar 28 2017 14:38
@ejoe132 My thought process was thus: The 2 most damaging things to worry about are heat and water. To mitigate heat, vent the case. To mitigate water, seal the case. You can't do both while keeping a simple design (I can't anyway). I have some control over exposure to water by how I handle, carry, and store the rig, but I have little to no control over the heat generated by the device itself through operation...therefore, vent the case and just be careful!
Cameron Chunn
@applehat
Mar 28 2017 14:53
I'd vent the case to keep everything cool, and just throw the rig in a water-proof bag when doing water-things.
Tho I'm speaking from a place of ignorance, because my edison isn't even here yet =P
Anyone have any clue how long it generally takes for the Explorer Blocks to ship? I ordered it 3 days ago and its still "awaiting shipping"
Hope this helps!

@diabeticgonewild, that's a great case. I've been carrying my edison rig around in a small cardboard box. It looks like a ring box, like I'm getting ready to propose to someone. :) I've been meaning to use the 3D printer at work to print one of the case designs. I haven't had any heat issues. It gets warm in the cardboard box, but continues to churn.

Thanks. I think there is a 3D print design for an explorer board. Please give me a few minutes to find the design. Also, some people use TallyGear (soft) cases made of of Lycra. They have a viewing window, so that may be useful. However, I fear damaging the board via dropping it.

Please help! I'm having a lot of wifi troubles with my Pi2B+ and Edimax EW-7811UN. Wifi works great before I run the script in crontab. Once I start looping though, wifi drops 10-15 seconds later. @danimaniac I am very lucky to work at a hospital that has a grant for a 3d printer and devices used for medical purposes. Even more lucky, after each print, the print manager has to write up a review of what was printed and for what purpose. They have been very interested in the #OpenAPS stuff I have printed.

If you don't have access to a 3D printer for free, such as through your local library, I suggest try finding a local hackspace: https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/List_of_Hacker_Spaces
Or paying a fee to print, online, and have it shipped to you...
