:) lots of people you’ll make friends with here! the other benefit to posting here vs. a sub-thread on Fbk is there are lots of people who can help answer questions as they have time, so you’re likely to get more eyeballs of help :)
FWIW: I also PRed some clarity into that section for the next person with a pre-flashed Edison - so hopefully that helps make it less confusing. http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/walkthrough/phase-0/hardware/edison.html#next-steps-after-you-get-your-hardware

Hey all - anyone had any luck using loop to feed openaps rig to iPhone when iPhone loses signal?
Kevin Marshall
@ruess
May 20 2017 01:18
I have - but i’m a bit confused by it
my assumption is that if the iPhone cell signal data stops or i’m in a place where I can’t get data, this will take over
however, whenever i purposely recreate a situation in which iphone doesn’t get data (while keeping bluetooth and tethering enabled), iPhone doesn’t grant tethering rights to the rig
thus it can’t connect to grab Loop data
not sure if anyone has figured out a way around this

@danamlewis i set it up correctly i believe.... what else can I check or should I push the power button and reset it?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
May 20 2017 01:26
I am not sure if it switches like that - or if it's meant to be the primary tether for bgs source 100% of the time. (Not using G5 so haven't poked at it thoroughly). Maybe @thebookins can fill in some details on how it swaps back and forth, if at all?
@laurathiessen are you still stuck trying to get the computer to recognize the Edison, or some other step?
Usually unplugging and replugging cables helps with most things if you haven't already done that, plus making sure the Edison is on there good. It may also help if you describe every step you've done til now and what you're seeing on your computer
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand

@idoodler you shouldn't have to worry about rig time, the Explorer board's 900MHz radio, or Bluetooth at the setting-up-wifi stage of things. generally if wifi won't come up it's because you have a syntax error in one of the config files. what you pasted looked ok at a first glance, but it might be worth re-creating those files with the appropriate contents...
alternately, you might be able to get a hint from one of the system logfiles as to the nature of the syntax error
another approach would be to remove the current wifi config and try putting a completely different network (like maybe your phone's hotspot) in instead...

@danamlewis i still havent been able to log into my edison... so you said@Kdisimone
@laurathiessen http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/walkthrough/phase-2/accessing-your-rig.html

Scroll down to the section that talks about connecting with a pc windows and the rig is on a different network. That's how you need to login.
Then go to the http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/walkthrough/phase-0/windows-edison.html

For the rest of the setup. Scroll down to the end of the part that says you are done flashing and start there

so I am still trying to do the first step

Ok so I've switched back to xdrip and android - would love to hookup OpenAPS rig to xdrip to send commands to the pump when my android phone has no data and can't connect to nightscout
In xdrip, I've set the API upload settings to the nightscout address built into my rig: the local Bluetooth ip as the address along with the API key
Should the API key in the nightscout address be the same key that's on my live nightscout?
Also, should I indeed disable the MongoDB settings for this to work?
Seems like it's not working if my android is not getting internet

random question / suggestion re future Edison/Explorer boards - it would be very cool if red LED showing Edison/Explorer board is on (not the charging one) was instead, say, a red-green-blue LED - that way, one could use colors for indications… like - green means loop fully working, etc...

@Kdisimone you can install a dev branch of decocare manually, or by using quick-src instead of quick-packages (and then checking out an installing the decocare branch if needed). Once we have a :+1: on the PR we can get it merged, although we'll probably need @oskarpearson's help after that to update the published package.

Seriously, I don't mean this lightly...read the docs slowly and carefully as you do things. Every keystroke has a purpose and they are listed. But it's a different way of reading. You have to go BACKWARDS and read if things aren't working the way you expected to see what you may have missed

Ok, so does anyone know the answer to this question. On the tutorial it says: "If using xDrip+ navigate to Settings > Cloud Upload > MongoDB and uncheck the “Skip LAN uploads” option. Do not turn on the “Enable Nightscout Mongo DB sync” option. Next, navigate to Settings > Cloud Upload > API Upload (REST) and uncheck the “Skip LAN uploads” option."
Now, if I’m planning to hookup xdrip to send BGs to my rig when there’s no internet - great
but why would i disable Mongo DB which uploads to my real nightscout site? " Do not turn on the “Enable Nightscout Mongo DB sync”
if I did that, then when I got internet again on my android, it would not update my Azure nightscout right!?

@idoodler your command has a strange syntax. The first part cd brings you back to root directory, and the second part is a locations but no instructions telling it what to do with that location. If you're trying to edit that file, add nano after the &&....but I'm not sure what you were trying to do

@danamlewis - it seemed to me that the 523 test pump would not communicate with my test rig at first because I couldn't turn remote on in the utilities menu unless I put in a remote ID. It also seemed once I set all 1's for one remote ID I was able to enable the remote in the 523 pump and things started working. I guess it was just a coincidence. ;-l>

good morning world. my rig has decided it no longer likes me. it works every 4 hours or so, stops for about 4. In NS I get BG is too old or clocks incorrect - but clocks are synced and BGs are current. The only thing that looks strange to me in logs is "Error, cycling network"
I've rebooted several times with no luck. Ideas?

Yeah, sounds like there is a problem with your wifi. What oref0 branch are you on? There have been lots of updates to oref0-online in every new branch lately, so if you don't find a problem on your end you could try the dev or pushover branches. Review the PRs to see what's different.

Dana Lewis
@danamlewis

Everyone's targets vary; but you may want to consider the wideness of your range and experiment with it. A smaller range may give you different results than a wider one.
