The cable in OTG is from my dexcom so yes definitely for that but not sure for the one in UART

Wait actually the cables must be working because when I flip the reliable dex cable with the other one between OTG and UART, my computer is showing Edison as a device....

I was running master today. I just tried to change to dev, and I can’t get by some errors. I felt lucky to be able to get master to start up again, so I think I should wait until my second Explorer comes back before I mess with something that is working. The good news is, master worked very well for me today. I never went over 152 over a six hour period after eating 177 grams of carb including an Outback bacon cheeseburger, Regular size Oreo McFlurry, and two McDonalds pies. Really spectactular performance and beyond my wildest expectations. If you asked me to guess how many grams of carb I would be able to have and not go over 150, I would have maybe guessed 60 grams. 177 is a ridiculous amount of carb for anyone. But now I know that any normal amount of carb is no problem for it.

hiya.. i setup a 2nd rig, swapped explorer board so this one uses V1.2 explorer plugged into power & G5 receiver. run-again has "--cgm=G5", but it doesn't seem to be picking up anything from the receiver..

I have serval newbie questions, if anybody could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I'm using an RPi3 with Carelink. 1. I was just trying to look into how to set up the Carelink but it seems that it may already be working (OpenAPS just made a decision for me, wow!) but how can that be if all I did was plug in Carelink? I didn't pair it with the pump or do anything else. 2. I'm seeing a few errors in pump-loop.log including "AttributeError: 'Pump' object has no attribute 'model'" Was I supposed to name this somewhere and is there any easy way to add this info? 3. "monitor/temp_basal.json raised bytearray index out of range" error. I'm not sure what impact this may have or even where to start on this one. 4. I want to adjust my target range, is there a file I can edit to achieve this or would I need to re-run oref0?

@skubesch if you're going to run carelink, you'll need to get friendly with the search function in the docs :smile: for a lot of those common errors.
Targets are pulled from the pump, so edit that and other settings in bolus wizard setup

Great thanks. Another question: when I ran oref0, I specified g4-raw but the logs show it's definitely using the dexcom algorithm data. Is there any way to change this and/or is there an preferences file I can look into to make sure I really did choose the right options?

G4-raw just means it'll upload raw to NS, and only uses raw in absence of regular day. (Assuming you've got receiver plugged in). Can change in run-again and run again if you want to pick something different.

Actually I was running master with no SMB.
I gave up on dev until I have a second rig. I can't risk not having a working system now that I know how awesome it is.

@scottleibrand still consistently getting radio errors and need to reflash....works for awhile and but soon after it gets stuck in same state......reset edison....added appropriate hardware.....and same still........was wondering if there's anything I could do to troubleshoot /find the root cause.....thinking othersmay be having similar issues at least occasionally

Yesterday we went back to the master build and twice now both of our rigs were enacted at the same time. Is this a problem? If so, how can I fix it?

So, again, I just ran into the situation where everything is working fine in the background but no pump status was being reported to NS. The last time that happened I just renamed devicestatus to something else and created a new devicestatus. Did the same today and it worked again. My question is, how do I drill down and figure out what is causing this to happen?

has anyone seen a change while taking an OTC allergy medication? I was thinking it was a problem cause I went to SMB, but after I turned it off, Same issue, I changed my ratio for Carbs (by a fair amount) and things are starting to work a bit better, Only thing different is the Allergy meds.
might test later with SMB again, see what I see

@Bender1061 have you checked to confirm that those by values are accurate? Dexcom has some funny interactions with some drugs and can show incorrect numbers.

@kenkotch To show the basal line you need to configure BASAL_RENDER as a Nightscout setting. I use 'default'
Those are all things you have to set as defaults in Heroku or Azure.

I don't think there is a NS variable for that, as it's not something that can be changed in Settings
@garykidd is this just occurring on one of your rigs? does the problem follow the Explorer board if you swap it to the other rig?
@skubesch if you haven't already, I would highly recommend ordering an Explorer board + Edison rig. you'll find the Carelink range is too short to loop reliably, even with optimal placement at the end of a USB extension cable.

need some advice. I've been looping now for 2 months... everything going great. I've just assembled a new rig with the intention of doing smb. My original thought was to set up this new rig as a mirror of my current one (on master branch just ftr), get it running as per rig one and THEN alter one of the rigs to smb. My concern is, if I run into snags with the smb rig, I want to be able to fall back to a completely functioning rig. My long-winded question is: should I simply build rig #2 as smb and just move forward? Not sure what would be best/cleanest/easiest... looking for my fellow loopers for advice

@cameronrenwick not really a good way to get master and dev on the same rig. but you could use Dev . and make two different myopenaps installs, one with SMB enabled, one without. And to switch from one to the other, just change the folder name in your cron.
or just turn off in preferences to disable SMB.

@cameronrenwick We were on dev and couldn't get it to fully work so we turned off everything in the preferences. I don't think that is a good idea because my a1c jumped up about 1 point. Reinstalled master and now I am back to a a1c around 6.

it doesn't really matter if you install master first or not, but you're going to end up with oref0 dev on the new rig. you can then enable or disable SMB, UAM, remainingCarbsCap, etc. as desired. and if you really want to, you can always switch back to master.
@RedCyclist1 a1c is a really crude metric. did you note what oref0 dev (without anything enabled in preferences) did differently than oref0 master?

if you run dev remainingCarbsCap at the default of 0, then oref0 dev will be less aggressive immediately after a meal (until carb absorption is observed) than oref0 master. that should be the only significant difference, but there may be some more minor ones that matter in your case...
the remainingCarbsCap-controlled aggressiveness only matters if you enter carbs but haven't yet bolused for them. once you bolus, then bolus snooze kicks in and they should both behave the same

@scottleibrand I was running high 40-50% of the time. I would even wake up at 150-170 with a target of 90-100. It seemed less responsive when my bg would increase. Not sure why. Now I am in range 85-90% of the time.

I'd like to be able to drill down to the actual decisions that were being made by each algorithm, and determine whether oref0 dev w/o SMB etc. was making a worse decision than oref0 master in a given situation. normally I recommend not running two different algorithms at the same time, but in a situation like this where they're supposed to be making the same decision, that might be a good way to see if they're doing things differently...
otherwise we're just guessing as to whether the algorithm was actually the cause of the outcome. (it could've even just been some other random thing, and just bad luck on the timing)

@cameronrenwick But it is not wise to configure and use Master to work with that many carbs as I did because the 30 minute temp basal would be a large amount such that if the rig battery died or the pump communication failed, nothing would cancel the basal if it was no longer desirable. I was monitoring it for my experiment, but I didn't leave those settings on. SMB is the safer way to provide more insulin because if the rig dies it will just end on its own soon. So with Master and AMA, a lower setting is the way I plan to go, and then I just won't eat beyond the carb limit it ends up being able to handle.

So that safety behavior is the same in oref0 and for oref1. But in oref1 it's a combo of the smbs and zero temps, in oref0 it's just the temps
Every command oref0 sends assumes it's the last command it can ever send
So, it's conservative knowing it might run it all the way to 30 min completion, based on the data it has then and the predictions it generates

@rsilvers129 if you overestimate carbs, then that 4U/hr temp might end up being too much and need canceling if you start to drop (or stop rising) earlier than expected. You're correct that oref1 with SMB and UAM enabled is probably safer for a carb miscount situation, but even then there are times it's running a high temp and you walk away (and start activity) where you would need to cancel the high temp to prevent a later low.
If you're going to be active right after a meal, you'll want to set an activity mode to inform the loop about that.

And if you do choose to walk out of range of the rig (or it dies) you'll want to check your pump and possibly cancel any high temp that is running. That is the tradeoff for making the algorithm aggressive enough to handle meals, and why AMA and SMB don't normally run overnight when you wouldn't be able to take manual action if needed.

Either will handle whatever you tell it, but will handle it in different ways. Oref1 if you have UAM enabled is more flexible with miscounts.

Today I biked for an hour. I set an activity mode with a 150 target. I was at 90 when I started so I drank 1/2 a Gatorade and told my pump it was 12 grams of carb but set the dose down to 0.025 units. I was still lowish and stayed just below 100 for most of the ride but then I started to rise. By the end of the ride, I was close to the target that I set it for. I was around 140. But I noticed that the temp basal was running at 5 units an hour. I never went above 140, but if I had capped the basal to something lower I don't think it would have been able to keep me at 150 or below. So I am saying, I think I needed the higher cap that I put in preferences.

I am looking to restart my setup and want to update a few very basic things in the documentation. This is the first thing, however I am not sure this is correct. so, in phase 2 of the instructions it says the options are g4 (default), g4-raw, ... xdrip. Does g4 mean g4 with dexcom receiver plugged in and openaps sends to nightscout? Does g4-raw mean g4 with dexcom receiver plugged in and openaps does not upload to nightscout? Does xdrip mean xdripAPS is sending from an Android to pi/edison through restapi and openaps sends up to nightscout? If so, is it ok to put this in the doc ?

Backwards. G4 is local only (sorry for confused by what we've been using in dev. G4 does not upload to NS.) G4 raw uploads to NS and also does raw.
Naming is improved in dev so the next release should help with this too, but since we are a ways out +1 for clarifying what's in docs for existing master naming

@Bender1061 - I've heard that tylenol - acetaminophen will cause CGM data to be wrong, but I doubt your allergy meds have that in it. I take antihistamine all the time and don't notice a difference.
