@rsilvers129 thx re BRIDGE_MAX_COUNT - I am using it, had it set to 3, now have it set to 72. In my experience, there are two aspects to gap-filling with the G5 - a ) outside the realm of Nightscout, when a G5 transmitter returns to in-range of its iOS device, some back-filling, say, an hour or two, will take place. B) in the scope of Nightscout, that variable tells Nightscout how far back in time (how many sample back) to request. So when the a)- style backfilling happens, IF BRIDGE_MAX_COUNT is large enough, some or all of that gap will be filled into Nightscout. As I recall, using the API, I can ask WHEN a given sample showed up. But it's at best hard, if not impossible, to tell from the Nightscout display WHICH samples arrived in real-time (within 5-10 minutes of acquisition at the sensor/transmitter, and which arrived late as a consequence of gap-fill.

when you need a change from one of them, like for the 6.4U/hr basal thing
it might be good to also do an apt-get update; apt-get upgrade periodically as well to pick up any security patches in the OS packages too

I've just recently set up my loop (initially tried with a 512 but switched to a 722) and am in the process of getting comfortable with everything. I am noticing that when I do a mealtime bolus via the Bolus Wizard on my 722, the bolus rarely shows up. Often I get a solid grey dot that says "Treatment type: Note", and other times nothing. Rarely the bolus shows as a blue and grey circle indicating how many units of insulin and how many carbs, but most of the time I just get the "Treatment type: Note" mark on the graph. Is this normal?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand

no, it should show up as the half-blue half-white circle every time.

In case anyone wondered what effect carbratio_adjustmentratio has, this is changing it to 1.25: (you get less insulin from the system).

I set my target to a value of 120 for safety and now I am testing 0.95. It set a temp basal that resulted in me getting 2.575 units dosed, which which bring me down to my target.

for ISF is it clear how much blood sugar will decrease per 1U of insulin, but another two I don't understand clearly.
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 07:17
@Diadon81 Carb ratio is how many grams of carb you must eat for every one unit of insulin. It is a setting in the Medtronic Bolus Wizard. CSF - I am under the impression that is not something that requires any action.

@scottleibrand I am concerned about openaps/oref0#464 - so not sure if I can actually use carbratio_adjustmentratio ?

@scottleibrand @danamlewis Are the docs correct? Reading the docs, would one expect the result that I got of setting a higher than 1.0 number resulting in less insulin being dispensed? Docs say more insulin.

"carbratio_adjustmentratio:
… With this ratio set to 1.1, for example, the loop would multiple the carb inputs by 10%, and use that number to calculate additional insulin. ...”

Hi all, I've just assembled everything I need to get started with OpenAPS (Medtronic 722, Edison with Explorer etc), so I'd like to introduce myself to the group here. My name is Christian and I'm from Cheshire, in the northwest of England. This build will be for my 12 year old daughter. Her mum and I are divorced, so my daughter doesn't live with me. I'm planning on looping only when she is with me (initially at least), but I'd like to be able to support her using it when she isn't with me. Before I start the build, are there any gotchas that I should be aware of that would make remote support of her rig easier? I'm also interested to hear of the experiences of other parents as to how their kids get on with the equipment, and any particular steps they need to be aware of to get the best out of it and to use it safely (she's got HAPP on her phone, so is aware of the basics of what is involved already). Thanks in advance.

@ericfeibelman : yes that would still work I guess (i don't use ifttt). It only changes the way the rig communicates to the Nightscout. I assume IFTTT with API_SECRET still works. Better to create a seperate token/subject for ifttt and apend token=ifttdevice-hash to the calling URL
Please let me know if it works, or if you encounter problems with openaps/oref0#470. Others are very welcome to give it a spin.
PieterGit

@ericfeibelman : Change the URL of the webrequest to https://yoursite.herokuapp.com/api/v1/treatments.json?token=iftt-hash
where iftt-hash is the access token. I think a role of careportal (permissions: api:treatments:create) is enough.
This way if your ifttt gets hacked, the only thing they can do is to create treatments, and not completely administer your site.
I think this also works on your current setup, and should be preferred above using API_SECRET or apisecrethash

Hello everyone. I've been working on building a rig for my husband. After difficulty ourselves, we brought everything down to NY when we saw my very tech capable cousin last weekend. We got it running on a (very) old 515 and it worked great on the wifi there. We lost it as soon as we left (I thought I could just plug the G5 receiver into the rig, but it must be a little more complicated than that (though that's a different question to address later)). Back home, we realized the issue was our very old WEP router. Ordered a new one. (Husband back on his omnipod while waiting). Router came, setup no issues. But, on trying to prime 515 pump had fatal error. Reran setup with equally old 715 I had as well and this seemed to go fine. However, since then, it's been spotty communication with the pump. While not working, log says "Starting pump-loop at Sun Jun 4 08:15:27 EDT 2017:

then it will pick up again. sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes over an hour.
Any help is appreciated.

@DriverNightscout Papertrail is a must for remotely monitoring parents. http://seemycgm.com/2017/03/08/remote-monitoring-of-openaps/

Also, I'd suggested joining the Looped Group on Facebook if you are a FB user. Lots of good info from looping parents (both Loop app and OpenAPS). https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheLoopedGroup/

If you read more on that first website link (that's my blog), there's more info on there about how we use OpenAPS (and used to use Loop too) for our 14 year old t1d daughter.

@ps2 https://github.com/openaps/oref0/blob/master/lib/determine-basal/determine-basal.js#L200-L250 is a good place to start. but let's move this over to https://gitter.im/openaps/oref0 so as not to lose the algorithm convo among all the setup/support stuff.
@davidklee odd. it seems like the pump just doesn't want to talk sometimes. not sure why that would be, aside from the obvious stuff you've already checked, like pump battery level
I know you've had other problems with the x12 pump, but did it have this -99 problem at all?

the first pump was a 515. I don't think it had this problem at all for the day it worked. This one is a 715.

the 515worked great for a day in NY when my cousin helped setup there with wifi. We went offline for a few days waiting on our new router. (husband went back on omnipod). When we got our router and set up again on wifi, he went to prime and got stuck in rewind/prime then got an error message which the internet says means the pump is dead.

@davidklee ok. there may be ways to revive it (leaving the battery out long enough to give the pump full amnesia and then trying again, for example). but even if that pump motor is dead, its radio might still be useful for troubleshooting this issue if you can't figure it out otherwise.

I determined that both v1.2 explorer and edison compute module are trash. What do you think? Paired together I reflashed because the dpkg command complained, so I rm -r the two packages and then could not install them. Flashed and installed and it worked. And after some hours maybe a power off and on it didn't work but loop had comm error never saw cgm receiver both offline pluged in to receiver and online. I tried the edison compute module with known good explorer then the explorer with known good edison compute module both with the same errors and I watched the serial link monitor half an hour with no trend towards resolution.
and my known good edisons are both last year versions one successfuly modified for offline.

@Kryptonit3 the last line shows "duration":30, "rate":0, that means loop is requesting a temp basal of zero. Your pump had a temp basal of 1.3 or it had default. Or not And. And how many minutes were left on the temp basal would tell you when that temp basal was initiated. If it was default basal then a temp basal was set and expired after 30 minutes.
@applehat if the heat is from edison you could crontab -e and modify the code so that the system loops only once every ten minutes. Then you've cut down how much processing it does.

I'm using the enlites. Offline looping is almost automatic. However, accuracy can get flaky and you really have to frequently bg meter to make sure a sensor hasn't flaked out. I just had two in a row flake out after 2 or 3 days. That was just after using the prior two for over 10 days each. I think all CGM's have some of these issues. The latest minimed sensor (the guardian) is supposed to be better, but I don't have access to it yet.

I am finally completing the setup script for Open APS but I saw this and I am confused on how to enable this with my putty sessions
One other helpful thing to do before starting any software work is to log your terminal session. This will allow you to go back and see what you did at a later date. This will also be immensely helpful if you request help from other OpenAPS contributors as you will be able to provide an entire history of the commands you used. To enable this, just run script <filename> at the beginning of your session. It will inform you that Script started, file is <filename>. When you are done, simply exit and it will announce Script done, file is <filename>. At that point, you can review the file as necessary."

@ceben80 if you have SMB enabled at the time, it's been more than 3m since the last bolus, and you want to run the bolus wizard, you can also do a small easy bolus first (even 0.1U) to force SMB to wait 3m, and then do your bolus wizard stuff.

Jun 04 2017 20:58
So… I just did another test. 148 grams carb. Two filet-o-fish and two Apple Pies and 8 small cookies. I never went over 111 for the first 4.5 hours! But now I am up to 175. The rig did its job in that when I started to rise, it was right on it with 5.575 tmp basal. I don’t see what more the loop could do. The only thing I can think of is - maybe if it knew this meal was 66 grams of fat, it would expect this rise. Fat delays the digestion and also reduces insulin sensitivity, so you need more. Consider this research by my former Endo… Maybe there should be a way to enter fat and then count some fraction of it as floating carb? http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/medicalschool/centers/BarbaraDavis/Documents/ATDC%202014%20Slides/2.1%20Wolpert%20Fat-protein.pdf

Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:01
Some people do their own conversion and enter a certain portion of fat/protein as carb
So you might want to experiment with that
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:02
@danamlewis So in theory, I would not add it to the initial bolus, but add it as a careportal entry after the bolus? And the loop would just consider it floating and try to deal with it?
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Jun 04 2017 21:03
Yes. We do that
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:03
No. It would consider it a carb
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:03
I am not sure what more it could do, since the moment the rise happened, it started to give me over 5 units per hour of basal - which is all I can ask of it. I think.
@danamlewis If I added it to the initial bolus wizard, for sure I would go low soon after eating.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:04
175, or 168 and then 7 more later, for example. But OpenAPS would use that for factoring dynamic absorption and if you weren't dropping at tail as expected, influence looping
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:04
I was already below 100 for a few hours after eating.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:04
Well that's up to you to decide how to bolus, knowing insulin peaks at 60-90 min and only so many carbs can absorb then
But you can use it to influence tail end meal activity if you really want to experiment with that, vs let the rig switch from "I know there is something meal here" to "expecting bg to drop but isn't for some reason"
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:05
Ok, but assuming I could not do it in one bolus, are you suggesting two bolus spread out in time with the fat as a second bolus, or one bolus with the actual carb, and then merely log the rest?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:06
This is why my answers are complicated about explaining my meal boluses. Because I only bolus up to a certain amount no matter the total amount of carb
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:06
Then what do you do later?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:06
The latter. Bolus as you do for actual carb count, and you can decide if you want to convert some stuff and enter it as a carb, combined then or as a second entry for easier visualization of what you did when you look back
I don't do anything later. That's what OpenAPS is for.
DaisyHK
@laurathiessen

@danamlewis if i am setting up my script for the first time 2 questions: I know for a fact that I wont have wifi most of my day, as my work does not have wifi and I dont want to rack up my data bill, could I just auto install the bluetooth tehering one then go back and enable the offline mmonitoring? Also I live in canada so so I need to use the international one or can i use the normal one?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:07
I do eating soon, a single meal bolus and carb entry, and that's it.
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:08
So @danamlewis and @Kdisimone You both consider fat? If so, 1:1 as carb or some other ratio?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:08
But also unlike most people, I cap my bolus knowing that I'll go low if I do 100% of my carbs in large meals, since they'll take 3,4,5 hours to digest but insulin peaks at <2.
No, I do not.
So @Kdisimone and others will have some input on what they do, but everyone has proven to be different so here's another YDMV ;) to have on board as you ask about that.
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:09
I did a massive bolus with this meal - 22.4 or so units.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:10
@laurathiessen i would set up for first time without Bluetooth. You can come back and do it later once you know you're working. That's unrelated to how you decide to loop offline or away from wifi.
And not sure re international question - is that related to what pump you have? You'll have to look at the pump to decide that
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:10
I did go low right at the start because I delayed eating too long, but then I was around 100 for over 4 hours.
So I am generally ok with large bolus without going low. But… 5 hours later I spike if it was pizza or a larger than normal McDonalds or Burrito.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:11
Another option is another low temp target around that time period
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:11
I am only testing extremes. I don’t plan to eat this way. It is not really reasonable to eat this much and expect it to work.
katie disimone
@Kdisimone
Jun 04 2017 21:12
@rsilvers129 we are regular (meaning frequent) split bolusers for fatty meals. Quesadillas, tacos, pizza, donuts. Depending on the meal the percentages may split, but we do roughly 50-75% prebolused by 20 min, and the remaining around the time she eats (sometimes 5-10min later). For the total carb count we use...all the carbs to, plus we add about 25% more for fats. But, definitely not bolusing all that upfront or we go low.
rsilvers129
@rsilvers129
Jun 04 2017 21:14
@Kdisimone Is splitting by only 30 minutes really significant? Seems like since my spike was 4.5 hours later, I should split by at least two hours.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 04 2017 21:14
@rsilvers129 it "works", but your expectations might shift for a super large meal vs a large meal vs an average/small meal
Also because 4+ hours later, there have been other things going on.

OpenAPS is designed so you can just give it as much leeway as you're comfortable with. If you set your max basal and max IOB conservatively, it won't change things much until you're comfortable doing more.

@mhaeberli I think it was you who asked a long time ago about why in Papertrail there was a localhost system showing. I have finally figured it out and fixed mine so each rig is on its own system name, and no localhost split. You have to edit the /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts files to have the same name, and have no localhost in the hosts. I still don’t know why some of my rigs’ names got split, and others didn’t…but I have them all fixed up now
