@marafie I read in the docs section for using ssh to access your rig that the inet address is different for different wifis
same device on different wifi has a different inet
address
I don't know why my rigs just do Listening..... now, even tried my second pump but on one rig I went back to "install packages, ssh keys, and other settings" On a brighter note, my G5 receiver failed. I thought it was flakey and I'll be getting a new one through waranty.

Aloha gang. Some fine folks pointed me to the docs that explain the extra steps required to make the 512 work. However, I am not quite savvy enough to master this task: "512 users - make sure that you have created your static json files as outlined here for raw-pump/settings.json, raw-pump/bg-targets-raw.json, and raw-pump/selected-basal-profile.json"

I have looked at the pages referenced by these instructions and generally understand what needs to happen, but I need some help with the syntax to get the .json files created. I am assuming these files, once created, go in the openaps directory that was created with the oref script.

Finally, since the impetus for coming here for help was the Explorer board not communicating with the pump, will getting this portion fixed allow communication? I can see how looking for information that isn't available on the 512 could cause a general communication error.

The internet has me thinking it might be something like this, "cat <<EOF > /your/path/myjson.json " Is that remotely close?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jun 14 2017 02:39
What was the error? But yes, if you have a 512 you need to set up the additional settings files that can't be pulled from the pump, plus adjust the aliases.

@eliotsdad Hi Eliot, that making files is done with a text editor, a very basic word processor that is installed on all unix computers. You'l;l have to learn one of them. I use nano....so to create the file beebop.json I type at the command line nano beebop.json. That takes me into the word processor. If I type vi beebop.json it takes me into a word processor I'm not familiar with and I have to reboot to get out of word process mode.
eliotsdad
@eliotsdad
Jun 14 2017 02:49
that makes sense, thank you. do I write the nano beebop.json while in the root directory, or in the openaps directory? Also, since I'm on a windows computer, can I use notepad, or do I need to download a linux based text editor?
Or, can I copy and paste in putty (which I am using to access the Edison)?
Aaron Michelson
@Aaybob
Jun 14 2017 02:51
@eliotsdad I'm sure there are all kinds of "easier" things you can set up. But just type nano <name> and when you are done typeing press control+X and read the directions on the screen.

@eliotsdad Tim, you can highlight the text in the PuTTy window and then press the right mouse button to paste it. Or you can highlight in notepad or anything on the window ....copy to clipboard then when ready to paste where ever the cursor is you press the right mouse buitton to paste.
Tim, you move the cursor with the arrow keys while in nano

       Bus 002 Dev 001 ID 1d6b:0003 and Bus 001 Device 001 ID 1d6b:0002 when I connect the Dexcom reader it mounts it as Bus 001 Device 002 ID 22a3:0017 and everything works great. If I disconnect the UART port, it dies and lsusb displays: unable to initialize libusb error -99. The only way out of that is to reboot. If the UART cable is disconnected, it will NOT mount the Dexcom device. I have a 4400 mAh battery so I don't think it is a supply problem. There is no power to the OTG connector without the UART connector powered. ???

Don't worry about that. Just get the directions on the page, then I can help format it when I review the PR.

hi again if anyone's still online now - I posted a few days ago about my rig not working due to an InvalidGitRepositoryError (which I'm guessing was caused from having to manually unplug and replug my rpi3). I tried oref0-reset-git a few times and got the response that "git repo does not appear to be corrupt." tonight I tried rerunning the setup script on the hope that might fix it, but no luck. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (sorry to post about this multiple times, my technical skills are pretty low)

Jun 14 2017 05:06
What command is it trying to run that is failing? Can you reproduce the problem by running that (or another) git command manually?
If you can't figure out how to do that, you can just move your .git directory elsewhere and start over. Look at the source of the oref0-reset-git script to see how that is done there.

@scottleibrand if I was going to make a lighter version of nightscout for offline use what is the best way to configure it? option 1 run it on the rig with minimum storage useage (1day of data) or Option 2 run on a mobile like android ?
fidoman
@efidoman
Jun 14 2017 11:04
@marafie - A light-weight web server running on the rig with NS local would be really cool, but I haven't seen any instructions for that and it would likely be a bit complex to setup. Since I use MDT CGM, I get offline looping automatically and then I just look at my pump to see my BG level instead of my watch or iphone. With bluetooth tethering now working well on my system, those times are very rare. Usually, time without NS only happens when my phone runs out of battery or something and then a web server on the rig is not helpful. :smile:

@savek-cc the SimpleHTTPServer doesn't work allways on my rig taking to account I can access it via ssh, I would like to have offline NS in cases if wanted to goto the gym with with careportal you can specificy the timing ...etc
@ericfeibelman the NS interface has inputs which I require to use like going to gym ,,,etc, I just placed a project on freelancer.com

What are your intension to bolus via command, be careful about that
fidoman
@efidoman
Jun 14 2017 13:21
@marafie - An alternative solution could be using Termius from your phone and ssh into the rig. I have an alias setup called bg that I can run from the command line that will call a bash script that reads enact/suggested.json and pulls out current BG, carbsReq, IOB, insulinReq, and COB. However, this solution doesn't allow for temp target settings.

@ericfeibelman probably wouldn't be all that hard to do. I think a mobile app with a Bluetooth connection control is probably a more user friendly option tho.

@marafie @applehat - agreed on both of your points. bluetooth would be much better and a canned user interface / app that works on ios, android, and perhaps browser (i.e. html5 based) would be really nice.

Cameron Chunn

@aditmer honestly, a Pi running OpenAPS (with no pump coms) could be useful for most of it.

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jun 14 2017 15:22
You'll need some sort of base block, but you could get away with a non-EB one (like Sparkfun's) for now.
I wouldn't trust the Pi to do BLE the same way as an Edison.
And it's the bluez pairing part we need to test next.

@scottleibrand what specifically is different in a Pi vs Edison on the BLE stack? Both run Bluez . When I was playing around with the idea of a BLE app for the rigs, I used my Ubuntu Desktop to test and then ran the same code on the edison/explorer with the same result.

-- Tho regardless, running on an Edison removes any question of "will this work on the edison"

The FDA has published guidance on people ordering drugs from Canada: they're mostly engaging in enforcement discretion if it's a reasonable personal use situation.
But you'll need to read that to know exactly what their position is (or was at the time).
Cameron Chunn
@applehat
Jun 14 2017 16:30
Under the Prescription Drug Marketing Act of 1987, it is illegal for anyone other than the original manufacturer to bring prescription drugs into the country.
My answer would be: I can't just order fiasp and have a canadian pharmacy ship it to me without the chance of it being seized, but if a diabetic flew into the country with fiasp and happened to leave a vial or two with me, while it would not be legal, there would also be 0 enforcement.

hey so cool news. My endo has given me the go ahead for using FIASP in my pump. I'm turning to my friends here to see what sort of setting changes you've made to your pump. I'm particularly interested in DIA. Any thoughts comments suggestions appreciated
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jun 14 2017 17:06
most people seem to have good success shortening their DIA by 1 hour for fiasp. be prepared for some variability in insulin action, though, and be ready to adjust basals and ISF (or let autosens/autotune do so)
we haven't used it ourselves yet
Diadon81
@Diadon81
Jun 14 2017 17:08
That strange because in description to fiasp it says, that it starts quicker, but dia is the same with novolog
But thank you for your comment, I will play with that value.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jun 14 2017 17:12
yes, the tail is about the same length, but it's thinner, because more of the insulin activity is up front. so until we change the shape of our insulin activity curves to better reflect that, a shorter DIA is the best way to estimate the overall change in impact. you do end up missing some tail activity, but with a closed loop that doesn't end up being much of a problem
cameronrenwick
@cameronrenwick
Jun 14 2017 17:13
@scottleibrand I've been autotuning for the past few months so I feel pretty confident about my current ISF and carb ratio going in. I had heard the 1 hr reduction elsewhere too so I'm going to use that as a start point.

cameronrenwick

Jun 14 2017 17:27
@tim2000s can you comment on your settings for DIA? currently on novorapid my DIA is set to 4 (which was the direction I rec'd from my diabetic RN). Of course this is going to be a personal finding more than anything else but just looking to do my homework
Tim Street
@tim2000s
Jun 14 2017 17:30
I originally set mine at 2hrs, but that rapidly proved to be too short because, while there is less of a tail, it is still there, and you end up with unexplained hypos as stacking takes place because oref0/oref1 thinks the insulin has run out, and it absolutely hasn't.
I currently run at three which seems to be optimal.
Especially when you consider post bolus exercise and other factors.
The other thing to be aware of with short DIA and SMB is that carb decay takes place over DIA so if you may want to adjust that in the code.
cameronrenwick
@cameronrenwick
Jun 14 2017 17:33

500mAh is a good bit of juice when your dealing with a computer that pull very little power when idle.

@davidkeddydb also - suggesting something we don’t do yet - think about having an alarm trigger when connectivity is lost; and / or think about how to make sure the pump and openaps can hang out near each other… sometimes, in our experience, it just takes a person lying literally between the openaps and the pump to drop the connection - understandable, as our bodies are not very transparent at radio frequencies ...
at THOSE radio frequencies

@scottleibrand I have 4 explorer board rigs and now I will shortly have 2 Edison with TI sticks
@mhaeberli Great idea
@scottleibrand once I finish set up
BT Tethering happens through the Edison so I should be able to get this TI stick rig to connect that way right?

Hello all! Does anybody know if it is possible to dimm or switch off the LED on Explorer Board between the two connectors?
And another NightScout Question: I still have „future treatments“ in NS. But in fact they are not „future“, they are „in the past“. Timezones double checked on all devices. Does anybody know what happens here and what I can do to fix this?

@CaptainBalou turning it off / dimming it would require some hardware modification
Not something i'd really suggest
Tho, if you want to fake it

Can the dexcom g5 reciever plug directly into my rig? Im thinking of switcthing over seeing im not going with the 670 and my insurance would cover the dexcom system.

Scotch Tape to dim it, Electrical tape to turn it off ;)
@peterfulvi yes, the dexcom can plug right into your rig. Or, if you are using android, xDrip+ can pull directly from a G5 sensor as well and push to NS and the rig directly (if configured correctly)

@CaptainBalou @applehat or masking tape to dim it a lot. ;-)

Scotch and Masking are roughly the same opacity I imagine =P
Alternative Idea: Dab of hot glue.

nah, scotch is mostly translucent: it just scatters the light without dimming it much

"diffuse" the light with scotch, then =P
@peterfulvi im a big fan of xDrip+ because it lets me run sensors past 7 days and gives me noise readings on them. Im not sure how many people run past 7 days vs sticking to the FDA approved time frame...but with how expensive those things can be, I like to stretch mine till they get noisy - and for my personally, that seems to happen around 18-20 days.
And its still a viable "offline" option if you are tethered to the rig and sending to xDripAPS on the rig

@applehat Great! I like the offline implementation of plugging it in. Thanks. Wow I will be looking into the offline options as well
@CaptainBalou I like black electrical tape

Whenever these come to market, I plan to buy one and try it as my xDrip+ / Rig Teathering device https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jellyphone/jelly-the-smallest-4g-smartphone

Good to see you are all having fun with my question. :-) I have wearing white trousers today and it really looks freaky to see someone walking around with a red light flashing inside his pockets. I was looking like Ltd. Cmd. Data from Star Trek. ;-)
Any ideas concerning future treatments?

@aditmer @scottleibrand : about openapsapp ideas. An alternative will be do use nightscout on the rig (without MongoDB, and using the https://github.com/nightscout/cgm-remote-monitor/blob/master/lib/storage/openaps-storage.js option). That would still need some stuff on the rig to set temp targets, but that's also been done.

The challenge with that is the dynamic IP address of the rig
Scott Leibrand

and it doesn't work at all on iPhone, because it won't tether without Internet

ok, didn't think of that. isn't it possible to let the rig use a web bluetooth, similar like puck.js devices do, see https://www.espruino.com/Puck.js+Quick+Start
it advertises a local url to the phone, works fine with Android at least. Can see if it works offline as well. I use a puck for measuring the insuline temprature
