Hello... I recently updated my son's rig to 0.5.5 I'm not sure if it's related or not as i don't think anything has changed with BT PAN... however the last 2 days he has lot connection from phone to rig at school so he hasn't been looping. I checked the BT connection and the rig is able to connect to the phone with BT PAN however it does "loop" as the NS pill states that the rig is "waiting" for hours on end. I checked to see if there was an IP for the rig and this is what I got:

root@johnny5:~# ifconfig bnep0
bnep0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 58:a8:39:01:16:49
inet6 addr: fe80::5aa8:39ff:fe01:1649/64 Scope:Link
inet6 addr: 2607:fb90:42b6:6f26:5aa8:39ff:fe01:1649/64 Scope:Global

TX packets:9 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:658 (658.0 B) TX bytes:474 (474.0 B)

I checked on his other rig (that won't stay connected to the phone) and I got this:

root@Baymax:~# ifconfig bnep0
bnep0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 58:a8:39:01:0e:cf
inet addr:192.168.44.126 Bcast:192.168.44.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: 2607:fb90:42b6:6f26:5aa8:39ff:fe01:ecf/64 Scope:Global
inet6 addr: fe80::5aa8:39ff:fe01:ecf/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:713 (713.0 B) TX bytes:906 (906.0 B)

Can anyone help and tell me why there is no IP for the first rig?

the 2nd rig is still on a previous version of oref0

Have you verified that you entered the correct BT Mac address for the phone when you reran setup?
I've made that mistake before

pretty sure that I used the same one... I have it all typed out on a notepad on my desktop... lol. I am able to connect to the phone via BT pan but for whatever reason when we leave wi-fi it does not work beyond the house.

I'm very low on the knowledge list. But since it doesn't seem to be giving you an IP number, I would run back through the Bluetooth tethering instructions. Can't hurt.

thanks for the help @dmdfreak Any response is good for me... lol. I actually went through pretty much the BT set up again... don't know why it's not showing the IP of the rig. hopefully someone with more knowledge than both of us will chime in since I don't have wifi acccess at my son's school

Oct 13 2017 02:21
@primags it is at 1.25v now... it was around 1.3v this morning. I've had the battery down to 1.19v with it still looping... I don't know what the deal with it is

looks like the rig is getting an IPv6 address but not IPv4. generally disconnecting from the network and reconnecting will fix that. but you should check the network.log: the shortcut for that is wifi

Oct 13 2017 03:06
@scottleibrand thanks scott. I checked the network log and it states that its is connected via my wifi network. I tried to test the BT connection by disabling connectivity with the home wifi router... is that like disconnecting from the network and then reconnecting?

You can use the date command to see the exact time on your rig. Then change the time in your pump to match. I have to do that sometimes.

Good evening and good morning to whoever is awake. I finally took the plunge and updated my rig to 0.6.0 dev. It didn't go too well, I got error messages about parsing errors in various .json files before I edited anything (e.g. preferences.json...) and the loop wouldn't run. I killed cron, renamed my myopenaps folder to myopenaps-old and ran the setup script, and now all is well. It might have been a random thing, but would it be wise to modify the docs in the section "How to update your OpenAPS rig in the future". Or was I too dumb to do the update correctly in the first place ? :)

@cameronrenwick @diabetic_dude_twitter - what do you both use for the following parameters? "bolussnooze_dia_divisor": 2, "min_5m_carbimpact": 5, "carbratio_adjustmentratio": 1, "autotune_isf_adjustmentFraction": 0.5, "remainingCarbsFraction": 1, "remainingCarbsCap": 90,
I have used remainingCarbsFraction=1 to tell SMB to consider all carbs remaining when calculating SMB. At least I think that is what it is doing. Maybe that is another lever for the aggressiveness of SMB?

Scott Leibrand

Oct 13 2017 15:05
@efidoman that is the default fot remainingCarbsFraction: see https://github.com/openaps/oref0/blob/dev/lib/profile/index.js I would recommend removing all of those entries from your profile.json so you can get the new default of autotune_isf_adjustmentFraction and take full advantage of the improved ISF autotuning
More generally, if it's not a displayedDefault, and you don't have a specific reason to override the default, it shouldn't be explicitly listed in your preferences.json.
(displayedDefaults is new in 0.6.0 I believe)

Wondering what others are doing when they take carb corrections for a low BG. Do you put the carb correction into NS so OpenAPS has the data (we have several IFTTT buttons for this) or just take the carbs and not include the carb correction data in NS? I ask, because it seems that if we input carbs when my son is trending low the system (as expected) would stop zero temping him and adjust to a higher temp basal--which can sometimes swing him back low again. What we have started doing is just have him take carbs for the low and NOT input the carb correction data in NS. This has seemed to work better and OpenAPS adjusts accordingly. I guess another option is to add a higher temp rate with the carb correction in the IFTTT button if we really want to keep track of the carb correction data. Also, curious what folks are doing when taking carbs for exercise/activity. Thanks!
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Oct 13 2017 17:57
I would recommend adding ifttt buttons that are carbs + slightly higher temp target. If you're using Autotune and Autosens, the carb info is important for later calculations in addition to in the moment dosing. (And can help for major rebounds).

@ecc1 what chip is the new radio board based on?
Eric
@ecc1
Oct 13 2017 18:10
2 radios: RFM69HCW for 900 MHz and CC2500 for 2.4 GHz, both SPI only (no microcontrollers). So openaps will need SPI-based driver code similar to what I've already written in Go

hey while you pros are chatting about building rigs.. can I pick you brain? I've just built a EB/edison w wixel, hm-17, an adafruit charger board and a 2x16500 battery (round ones like the AAs) in a plastic 3" x 3" x 1" box. The explorer board/edison has super strong signal out of the box ( like mmmtune give -55's - -70's) but when it's all bundled up I get a lot of -99's. Any idea on interference control? I tired w an antennae and it help a bit but... just wondering if it's maybe the batteries?
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 18:24
post a pic of it
how it is build, where the antennas are
@cameronrenwick if you have pics of it handy
also hm-17 may cuz EB bad reception, different frequency but still

ok.. here it is. The hm-17 works great...it's the interface between the EB/edison and my pump; the xdrip+ is no prob.
I just wonder if the batteries are the culprit

Oct 13 2017 18:32
place the hm-17 as far as possible from EB

30mm may be 1/100 Wavelength
cameronrenwick

Oct 13 2017 18:42
aah.. yes, that's likely it... if I were to use shielding tape, you're saying it'd go between the EB/edison boards and the rest of the whole rig? Sort of a divider within the box I guess?

yes, divider within the box
cameronrenwick
@cameronrenwick
Oct 13 2017 18:44
the main reason I made this rig, aside from having an all in one with lots of battery life, is that it has a round charge connector so that the micro usb doesn't get messed up with upsidedown tries to get it in for charging .. that part works great... just gotta figure out the interference part
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 18:44
I stand corrected, 4 inches may be 1/4 Wavelength for 900MHz

Oct 13 2017 18:59
I just really attach the antenna to the EB and lay the wire around the perimeter of the box. It hasn't made a big diff so I really haven't experimented. It was one of those items I ordered that took months to arrive so I wasn't really trying to solve this problem with it but figured what the heck lets see.. no significant improvement

I have had problems with my batteries loosing power and getting too hot because of the edison so here is what I did
IMG_5309.JPG
got a bigger battery like you, then cut a mouse pad in half and wrap it around the battery with the battery cable going down one end of the battery to protect against damage to the cable ( I have them come ap[art before)
IMG_5310.JPG
I wrap the rubber side facing the battery to keep it in place and allow the foam to absorb the heat from the edison
IMG_5311.JPG
then I put it in my fancy 11 dollar neoprine case and allow the antenna to hang out of one side the neoprine also absorbs some of the heat and I hope will also absorb shock
the main difference is the antenna I have that I got from mouser.com (or something like that) works great gives me at least 20 feet

it is not or has not been enough for me
but that first charge has done well for me, at night it will get close to 30% charge then goes back on and will charge to 90% over night using the edison
I am waiting to see how long I can go like this... If it gets to 20% or lower I will remove it again and charge it separately

get a good 18650 like Panasonic/Samsung or Sony with 3400mAh then you dont need two 18650, the one you have does not have 4400mAh
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 19:20
send me a good link please I need another battery I only have one right now (one battery two rigs)
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 19:20
just make sure you buy genuine 3400mAh from Amazon or reliable source (well, Amazon is not always reliable but still)
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 19:21
ok I copied that and will look into it I need another battery brb
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 19:23
like NCR18650B but with protection, you can solder them together if you can and have the equipment
@diabetic_dude_twitter I ment 18650 and not 16500!
18650 is what you have and what I meant
and 18650 need more charge current as the EB can deliver

@cameronrenwick
Oct 13 2017 19:28
the adafruit board does a good job of charging eh 18650s (4400mAh) .. solder the bridge and it's quick to charge.
I tested that before I got the rig built an from 0% to full charge it's about 9 hours IIRC
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 19:33
but still, it is not 4400mAh or the edison drains more power than my, on a 3000mAh LiPo, my Edison/EB runs for at least 24h
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 19:40
@libxmike it seems amazon did not have any with the JST connection
@cameronrenwick I do agree the adafruit board does a great job IF the bridge is soldered

Oct 13 2017 20:00
@cameronrenwick @libxmike I just ordered some of those Anaren antennas for my Pi hat prototypes. Pretty sure the 30mm (there's also a 6mm version) is the length of the coax to the antenna portion.
BTW, why do you need an HM-17 when the Edison has its own Bluetooth?
kallnap
@kallnap
Oct 13 2017 20:03
I think I spotted a wixel in the box or am I wrong and then you would need a Hm-17 to get an xdrip to work
Unfortunately the Explorer Board does not allow to connect a Wixel to it
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:07
@ecc1 I had very good radio with 1/4 Wavelength simple wire antenna connected to the RFM69HCW
Eric
@ecc1
Oct 13 2017 20:11
Yes, I use the same (flexible wire 1/4 wavelength) on my production rig. Hope you have insulation on the bottom of that radio module :-)

hey guys...what radio module is that---that's a pi zero too right?
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:15
yes, Pi Zero, radio is RFM69HCW
$5 radio that works with MT Pumps
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 13 2017 20:17
so like a little over $30 setup then?

get the pi zero from adafrut?
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:18
I dont like adafruit
I get it always from pimoroni
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 13 2017 20:24
and the pi0 handles oref0/1 effeciently enough?
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:24
not yet
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 13 2017 20:25
is the interest in using pi0 based on discontinuation of edison...or cost...or both?
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:25
last year as I did try with Pi0, I needed about 2-4 min for one loop
I think mostly because discontinuation of edison
but the cost compared to Edison and EB is huge
about $120 compared to $15-$30
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 13 2017 20:27
right
i have an unused pi3 around...is it easy anough to work with that radio module---cause I cant find my ti stick
wanted to construct a bedside rig
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:28
I never liked Edison, mostly because was mad to be killed after few years and does not have microSD
Ti stick is better for now
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 13 2017 20:30
really dont want o buy one though--talkabout expensive
Mike
@libxmike
Oct 13 2017 20:30
I also have Pi3 and Ti stick in addition to two Edisons

if you change your mind let me know I am still figuring out how I want to use it Pi3 Pi0 or an upcore http://www.up-board.org/up/comparison-up-versus-edisongalileo-joule/
I think an upcore would be cool but may be a huge battery drain
garykidd
@garykidd
Oct 13 2017 20:37
dont fret over my expense comments...I just not intersted in buying another one....I like trying different things and it seems like there are cheaper radio boards to be had.

My edison lost power and now the date has reset. I found the documenation before, but can't seem to locate now...can someone point me in the right direction to get the time and date corrected?
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 20:51
it should pull the time from an NTP server
are you sure you are connected to the internet with it
Glenn Primack
@primags
Oct 13 2017 20:51
Yes, I am...I am able to ping google.com from the Edison terminal
I remember there was some command if your edison suddenley loses power to reset the date or to have NTP update it....I thought if the date was far enough off, NTP wouldn't correct it, but I'm not sure of that
something like ??? killall -g openaps; oref0-set-device-clocks ??? read and tell me what you think
Glenn Primack
@primags
Oct 13 2017 20:53
I already did the timezone command and a little GUI pops up and lets me set timezone but not time/date
The second command sounded like it was setting the clocks on the pump...
Found this in some old documentaion for the Pi
o check the time is correct, type date. If the date is still not correct, try: sudo /etc/init.d/ntp stop then sudo ntpd -q -g then sudo /etc/init.d/ntp start (This may need to be done if the pi unexpectedly lost power)
When I run the middle command (sudo ntpd -q -g) the command hangs. I'll reboot and try again.
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 20:55
well that fits your issue
at work I have problems with the NTP server all the sime and loose the time and date
have to either switch to my phone or change wireless networks by leaving the building and going somewhere (like home)
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 21:02
@primags sudo service ntp stop
sudo ntpd -gq
sudo service ntp start
reference link https://askubuntu.com/questions/254826/how-to-force-a-clock-update-using-ntp see the bottom of the page (That may be why it is hanging???)
Glenn Primack
@primags
Oct 13 2017 21:02
When I run sudo ntpd -gq it hangs, should this command take a while?
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 21:03
should not really unless.... the communication with your NTP server sux ( like mine at work)
then I have to change netwroks
I have battled that same issue for a loooong time. So much that I carry a back up rig and know other options to fix it like changing networks
Glenn Primack
@primags
Oct 13 2017 21:07
I got it!
sudo sntp -s time.nist.gov
Found that on another forum....Nothing else worked, this corrected the date right away with the one command
Diabetic_Dude
@diabetic_dude_twitter
Oct 13 2017 21:09
did that set a new server for you ? using time.nist.gov???
Glenn Primack
@primags
Oct 13 2017 21:09
That did set a new server for me, you could change the last part to any NTP server you want to use (including IP address)

looking for suggestions - formerly happy edison/explorer now keeps losing connection to pump and not reconnecting for hours… if at all. how would I go about root cause analysis? (current plan, spin up some spare edison/explorers and switch over to one of those)...
Martin Haeberli
@mhaeberli
Oct 13 2017 22:30
ok - ‘solution’ - it’s almost as if the Explorer radio program ‘ages’ - I re-flashed it (remotely via ssh reverse tunnel) and at least now mmtune is happy after 6 hours of sadness. wondering whether there is a way to read the Explorer program to detect bit errors .. ?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 13 2017 22:45
@mhaeberli I think the cc-debugger can do that if you get the right connector to attach to the debug pads
Martin Haeberli
@mhaeberli
Oct 13 2017 22:45
@scottleibrand ok thx, but I assume that in standard field Edison / Explorer that ‘introspection’ is likely not possible
so i’m trying to develop a fault model - what could cause the programming to age / get broken
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Oct 13 2017 22:46
I don't know whether ccprog's "bit-banging" approach can be used to read from the cc1110

The ccprog code already has a dump_flash function, but the main program doesn't provide a command-line option to call it. If you're feeling brave, it would be simple to add, but maybe there's a reason it's not available.

Oct 13 2017 23:29
@mhaeberli is your issue that the radio needs to be re-flashed---had that issue myself...never heard back from hamshield about the problem...I guess that's the risk on small runs.......mine would inevitably fail...would come back...but would always fail again.
is there a recommended way to get recommendations log into excel the ‘|’ separatots dont seem to be friendly to paste special as delimited text or anything...

Any ideas on why rig is getting stuck in 'waiting' mode? This has happened twice in the past 2 days since updating to 0.5.5. NS loop log shows "settings/autosens.json' every few seconds and nothing else and pump log is showing, "reason":"BG data is too old (it's probably this), or clock set incorrectly....."

Clocks on pump and rig are basically the same (delta of 45 seconds) and CGM data is also current. See attached picture of OpenAPS pill and PDF of logs.
