Hello all, I am going on a cruise ship and have bought a wifi package but in order to get on it I have to have my edison processor go through a website called login.com. Is there a way from the user prompt to have my processor do this? They dont have the ability to give me a wifi username and password.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Dec 23 2017 17:55
You would have to get a travel router like an Edimax or Hootoo and connect both your phone and rig through that, so you can log in via the phone and then the rig can connect.
jgels44
@jgels44
Dec 23 2017 17:56
Im pretty sure the ship wont have that so Im going to have to go back to the old fashion way. Thank you for your help.
There is no way to have the processor bluetooth tether to my phone while I am on wifi is there? (I have an iPhone)
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Dec 23 2017 17:58
No, it's easy to use the travel router like that, on a plane or a cruise ship. They won't be able to help you troubleshoot logging in on it - so I'd make sure you know how to do it before you go - but they won't have any objections to it
Another option is to do offline hotspot, and connect your phone to the rig's hotspot
And you can ssh in that way. You could also test the webpage view, but it's not documented, so you may not have time to futz with that depending on when you go
jgels44
@jgels44
Dec 23 2017 18:01
Im already on the ship:( we just havent left port yet. I thought I would be able to have the rig access wifi without going through a website. Not my best thinking
Does the offline hotspot have to have the rig access the wifi?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Dec 23 2017 18:03
No, just have to tether your phone to the rig's hotspot
Rig can be fully offline
jgels44
@jgels44
Dec 23 2017 18:03
That doesnt work because I have no way to get the rig on wifi. It has to go through a website and I dont know how to have my rig communicate with a website
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Dec 23 2017 18:03
(Assuming you've already set it up, or otherwise have an up to date oref0 and can configure it offline later)
Hotspot does not mean wifi
Rig = offline
Rig makes a network
Phone connects to rig's offline network
Alllll offline

Check out http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/Customize-Iterate/useful-mobile-apps.html re the ssh apps - you might like simplessh if you have time to do that and set up shortcuts, if you're not familiar with how to jump around your rig on the command line
Also see http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/2017-07-13/docs/walkthrough/phase-2/accessing-your-rig.html#if-your-iphone-and-rig-are-on-the-same-wifi-network which might have more details on using ServerAuditor to access your rig (that's usually recommended, but depends on how much time you have before you lose signal)
But - in order for those to matter, you also need to enable offline hotspot in your preferences
Make sure you look at that so you'll know the default password; you'll need that when you connect to the OpenAPS network your rig will spin up

Hi all. I’m trying to figure something out, and pointers would be welcome. I don’t use the Bolus wizard and I 20~30 min prebolus. Next loop then sets a zero temp (understandable) and when I start eating I enter carbs on NS. The loops after that often leave the zero temp in place for an hour or so. The problem is that two hours after eating my glucose is up at 200. What should I take a closer look at? TIA.

@cameronrenwick and @sjolundjohn - you both seem to have insight into WiFi problems. We can only connect to our home WiFi network (an older Apple router, not the newer meshed Netgear Orbi). Every time I try to add a WiFi network and/or revert back to the original Wifi settings by using edit-wifi or even nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf the rig becomes unusable. The filename somehow gets changed (despite following the doc instructions perfectly), the rig loses Wifi of any kind and I wind up having to completely reflash the edison and re-run the setup script from scratch (3x already...). I googled the issue and it seems that there is a known issue with the wpa_supplicant file on these setups (Edison/debian). Any insight into how to fix this would be most helpful. Nothing urgent but I look forward to learning more about this. Have a Merry Christmas (if it applies)!

@bcadre can you show a log of wpa_supplicant file so I can see what it looks like before/after possibly? I have to admit, once the wifi file is written and saved it's usually pretty stable. My experience with this file in particular is that typos are the leading cause of problems.
Brian Cadre

Dec 23 2017 20:16

@cameronrenwick here is the current file; I am hesitant to modify it since we finally have the rig up & running.

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
network={
  ssid="HomeNtwk"
  psk="123456"
}

As for typos, when I modified the file, all I did was delete the SSID & PSK and retype the new SSID & PSK inside the quotes. I made no other modifications. After reverting back to the original, it still would not connect...

@cameronrenwick
Dec 23 2017 20:39
@bcadre are you using a pi or edison? I'll have to admit, I've never had the update_config=1 line in my wpa_supplicant file tho I know it's listed on this page --> https://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/Build%20Your%20Rig/pi-install.html?highlight=update_config for configuring a pi. (I'm also not 100% sure if this matters.
aside from that, I'm out of ideas

ok, I'd try removing that line just for giggles.. also, I've set up my wifi as it is listed here - > https://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/Customize-Iterate/on-the-go-wifi-adding.html I will say that I have the order of how I generally connect with most frequent connection at the top. Don't know if that has any effect either but early on in my set up it did seem to be important

@cameronrenwick and @sdneufer You guys rock. I may get brave and try to modify it after Xmas. I'm sick of refreshing and rerunning the setup script (3x in last 2 days). Would you suggest I use the edit-wifi cmd as suggested in the docs? It seems that every time I do that, I somehow screw up the file name even though I just hit ctrl-X, Y, and Enter; and I have NO idea how to correct the file name...
cameronrenwick
@cameronrenwick
Dec 23 2017 20:50
I generally just use edit-wifi then hit I which puts you in insert mode (it'll say insert at the bottom of terminal) then once the file has been edited you hit escape :wq and that'll save the file. You can cat-wifi after to make sure your changes have been reflected.

I use vi to edit files. old school. not user friendly. When do you loose wifi.. right after you write it out or does it take some time. you could create a copy of the wpa_supplicant.conf and then edit it and copy it back on top of the actual file.

Also should be able to connect to the edison through the serial port if the wifi goes away and then re-create the wpa_supplicant file.
Are you reflashing completely or starting from the "Using XXX as the console" part?

that's a really good point... hard to correct wifi when wifi is down. Using sudo screen /dev/tty.usbserial-* 115200 is a great way to connect... just make sure you've got 2 usb's connected to your edison/EB

the other trick is, if your rig won't connect to you computer press control a and d together. Then open a new terminal window and try to ssh or sudo into your rig. This command will clear out any clutter, tho it may ask you to confirm you want to log in, and will need to type yes , not just y
