Quick tech question: I think we're ready to enable SMB - have had good results with oref0. Is it a simple matter of editing the preferences to enable SMB to "true"? Additionally, there are many preferences that appear in the docs that do not appear in our preferences.json file (see below); is it a matter of adding those preferences to the file using a similar syntax? Thanks for any help.
cd ~/myopenaps && cat preferences.json

A little off topic, but I'll ask anyway: looking for something for my wife to bring with her when she's traveling that can be configured to alarm super loud if her BG dips below some value... basically something redundant with the Dexcom alarms. I was thinking of having her bring an old Android that we have running xDrip that could be configured to alarm super loud, but curious what others use/are doing?

preflight is currently failing on my loop. have attempted rebooting, pump battery is full, its been running for over a half hour and they the pump and rig are right next to each other. any ideas?

Listening for 40s silence before mmtuning: .No interfering pump comms detected from other rigs (this is a good thing!)
mmtune: No wait required.

Good morning, I am just putting this out there more so that developers know this is happening. It may not matter at all, but I wasn't sure. I use OpenAPS 90% of the time and the other 10% I use Loop. So in NS, when the OpenAPS rig is SMB'ing like it should, it gets attributed in NS as Loop. Screen shot to show what I mean. It shows in the OpenAPS pill correctly, I would just think those boluses shouldn't be labeled as Loop boluses but perhaps that is how NS reads them from the pump when it sees them from a pump pull.

@davidkeddydb I don't think openaps would create a treatment entry with "enteredBy: loop://...". Is there any chance Loop could still have been running then? To get more info, you can do

I'm trying to understand autotune output:
ISF [mg/dL/U] | 180.000 | 184.624
Carb Ratio[g/U]| 20.000 | 19.730
180/20 are vaild from 0:00 to 06:00, but what about the rest of the day?
regdubbed
@regdubbed
Jan 11 2018 19:43
or is that a ratio that should be applied to all ISF values?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 19:53
autotune does not support ISF schedules. it will start with the first or last of the day, and then tune an average value for the whole day from that starting point
regdubbed
@regdubbed
Jan 11 2018 20:07
so does that mean it tuned a factor of 184/180 for the whole day? Or is the result just invalid when using ISF schedules?

Question for SMB users out there: This weekend I will enable SMB/AMA for my daughter. I’ve read all the docs at least twice and can’t quite find a “how to” use SMB. Does she no longer use the Bolus Wizard on her pump or does she continue to do so as before? Is she supposed to enter carbs in NS? Is she supposed to enter the entire carb load or “cut back” (since SMB only gives ⅓ the insulin anyway)? Any advice would be much appreciated. So far, so good!
But I can definitely see why it might be a little confusing, it was confusing for me too when I upgraded to 0.6.0. Basically, most people no longer use Bolus Wizard to enter carbs, or for bolusing, because of the risk of an A52 error if the rig tries to send a microbolus when a bolus is being done through bolus wizard.
What I do is enter carbs through IFTTT on phone (in docs), then easy bolus for a portion of the meal, and then allow SMB to catch the rest of it.
It was a big adjustment for me so I took it slow and did a lot of testing
Reading the release notes for 0.6.0 was helpful for me - https://github.com/openaps/oref0/releases/tag/v0.6.0

Andrew M: Thanks for the reply. I have read them all. We haven’t yet enabled IFTTT. If she is to no longer use the Bolus Wizard on her pump how does she enter a meal? Currently we use NS to log carb corrections but there is no “meal” option in the NS “Treatment” menu. If you were to use NS to enter a meal, how would you do it?
live4sw
@live4sw
Jan 11 2018 20:46
I actually don't use NS to log carbs at all but I would think you could use any of the options that allow you to input a carb amount (someone else please correct me if i'm wrong), would just test that first.
I just use IFTTT as it is much more convenient for me
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 20:48
I think "Carb correction" is the one you'd use to enter just carbs through NS. But no one does that: everyone sets up IFTTT instead.
On the pump there's also the "meal marker" option, which gets recorded as "journal carbs" and used properly.

You’re all too advanced for me; I’m a simple cardiac anesthesiologist... 😜. Tell me how to “PR the docs” and I’ll do it. I’ll also try to set up IFTTT. But, in case I can’t, if I use Carb correction in NS, will that trigger SMB? Looking at the IFTTT section of the docs there is no “meal button.” Most of the actions that are enabled by IFTTT are really temp targets. What do those of you using IFTTT do when you eat? Sorry for the basic questions but still unclear to me.
live4sw
@live4sw
Jan 11 2018 21:08
I just suggested a PR
yes, if you enter IFTTT-based carbs (just do a normal carb enty), and the rig's online and you have those preferences enabled, it'll trigger smb when needed
in addition to pre-set IFTTT buttons, also check out "Workflow" app which makes it easy to set custom amounts of carbs: http://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/Customize-Iterate/ifttt-integration.html#workflow-to-custom-enter-carbs-and-temp-targets-from-today-widget-on-iphone

hi @danamlewis and @scottleibrand , I had a question re autotune. When you have autotune enabled in oref1, how many days of data does it take into account when deciding on your basal rates?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 11 2018 22:37
It tunes one day at a time
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:37
as many days as you've run it
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 11 2018 22:37
So depending on how long you've run it, that many days
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:37
each day's autotune starts with the previous morning's autotune results and applies whatever adjustments are warranted based on that day's data
KS615
@KS615
Jan 11 2018 22:39
ok, just wondering because I have it enabled and dropped really low the last two evenings between 6 and 7pm. when I look at the autotune report, it looks like it hasn't dropped my basal rates to account for the low. But, it sounds like it should be looking at the previous 24 hours and adjusting, is that right?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:40
every morning at 4am it runs and adjusts slightly for the preceding 24h (4am-4am)
KS615
@KS615
Jan 11 2018 22:40
ok, maybe it just didn't catch up yet then
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:40
it isn't going to respond very aggressively to one day's data
KS615
@KS615
Jan 11 2018 22:40
that makes sense
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:41
it's designed to apply 10-20% of the "necessary" changes, to dampen any adjustments on one bad day
KS615
@KS615
Jan 11 2018 22:42
that's what I thought, but wasn't sure. So, it may take a few days of the same occurrence (eg lows) for it to full adjust to lower the basal enough?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:42
right. you can manually schedule temp targets in the mean time...

Jan 11 2018 22:47
One more question, if I change my pump basal rate settings to adjust for the lows (eg if I have it set at 1.7 at 4pm and autotune has it running at 1.75 today, and I adjust it to 1.6 today, will that hasten it lower the basal?)
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:47
not unless you set it far enough that autotune has to adjust to stay within the autosens_max and autosens_min (1.2x and 0.7x by default)
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Jan 11 2018 22:47
Not unless you manually run Autotune before the next 4am run
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Jan 11 2018 22:48
you could narrow those closer to 1 (and optionally run autotune manually) to get it to converge faster on your pump settings
or you could erase the autotune directory and re-run it to start over from pump settings
KS615
@KS615
Jan 11 2018 22:51
Hmm, which do you recommend. Here's my situation. I'm 4 mos pregnant and expect that there will be needed basal changes that could occur close to weekly as the pregnancy progresses. I love SMBs and don't want to lose those as they have been essential to maintaining in range. And I have the advanced target settings (exercise mode, etc) set, which have worked well so far. So, would it be best to narrow the autosens min and max closer to one and then plan to run autotune manually every 3-4 days to adjust? Or if I see a discrepancy like I see how, just make a pump change and erase the directory?
As an aside, I have a super engaged Maternal-fetal medicine OB who is super impressed with you guys and OpenAPS. She's never seen anything like it. Its really made an incredible difference so these are fine-tuning. I'm in target about 70% of the time with 10-15% lows that typically are barely low, so its pretty incredible
the target being 70-120

there's no way you'd be getting those results without a lot of work on your part too. we designed OpenAPS to be forgiving if you guesstimate high-carb meals, but 70% TIR 70-120 requires a lot more than the automated system can do. :)
lemme think about what'd be easiest and get back to you in a bit

This is a dumb question... but where does openaps pull the information on BG target and ISF? I thought it was NS??

@ks615 sent you a pm (sometimes gitter notifications stink)
@jburke41 from the pump
@jburke41 it doesn't pull anything profile-wise from NS

@danamlewis I hope more pregnant people get on OpenAPS. I've been trying to keep notes so I can share the setting changes I've made. And, I said to my dad last night, "boy, I can't wait until after the baby comes and I can go back to just letting my rig do its thing." He got teary and said, "After 29 years of diabetes care, I would never have thought we'd hear you say you had something that just let you forget about it." so, truly, thank you
Ok, will check it!

@ks615 We just had an OpenAPS baby ;) We felt that autotune was great, but sometimes could not keep up with the massive increase in insulin resistance. So every now and then we raised basals on the pump by 10% or so and deleted the autotune directory to make it start from a scratch.

one other thing @tim2000s had success with (when dealing with Fiasp changes, not pregnancy :-p) was changing the autotune code to apply a bigger % of its changes each day. I think he bumped it up from 20% to 50%.

@danamlewis @scottleibrand I also have to thank you and everyone else involved for making this possible! I as physician was shocked how scarce and vague the info about Type 1 Diabetes and pregnancy is. ("You should monitor closely...", very helpful...) OpenAPS kept us safe and sane ;)
