is it normal/expected to get uploader failure errors/ REST-API problems in xdrip plus when you're not offline looping....i.e. have normal wifi internet connection?
@drmartinezs no worries--in fact, thanks very much for checking.

@danamlewis when using 0.6.x we always get low temp by APS after meals. I tested it with oref1 implementation and the behavior is the same like AAPS. so i'd expect it's correct.
i found this in documentation
(the recommended method for using SMBs is to enter carbs via NS and easy bolus any desired up-front insulin (generally less than the full amount that would be recommended by the bolus wizard) and then let SMB fill in the rest as it is safe to do so. For situations where the bolus wizard is preferred, such as for carb entry by inexperienced caregivers, or for offline use, we feel that it is safer for OpenAPS to disable SMBs and fall back to AMA until the next meal. In addition to reducing the risk of A52 errors, disabling SMBs when the bolus wizard is in use leads to more predictable AMA behavior (instead of SMB zero-temping) for untrained caregivers in an environment that is usually more prone to walk-away pump communication issues.)
how do practically switch to AMA?
giving less insulin it's not an option for us because of high carbs absorption rate

For readability on mobile: “(the recommended method for using SMBs is to enter carbs via NS and easy bolus any desired up-front insulin (generally less than the full amount that would be recommended by the bolus wizard) and then let SMB fill in the rest as it is safe to do so. For situations where the bolus wizard is preferred, such as for carb entry by inexperienced caregivers, or for offline use, we feel that it is safer for OpenAPS to disable SMBs and fall back to AMA until the next meal. “we feel that it is safer for OpenAPS to disable SMBs and fall back to AMA until the next meal” is describing the default oref0 behavior after a bolus wizard carb entry (without the a52 risk preference), not anything you would do.
Another option includes scheduling low targets around mealtimes, possibly with the “low target indicates resistance” preference, to make oref0 more aggressively dose during eating soon mode and/or immediately after carb entry.

So, you disable smb when you detect carbs entry from wizard?
Dana Lewis

Yes, unless the preference is set to allow it

@statuur @danamlewis there’s a small typo on the new flowchart. The pump model labeled 544 (in an orange circle) should be 554/754 instead. Nice work…flowchart looks great

@MilosKozak In case you don't know already: Disabling SMB after Medtronic bolus wizard entries is only because there were errors parsing these pump history entries that in one case led to inadequate insulin dosing

@danamlewis @scottleibrand Just curious if there's a reason why the PR with updated xDripAPS documentation that @philipgo made in January (openaps/docs#1209) hasn't been merged? What's there in the docs right now is out of date and references things that are no longer present. Just a friendly question. :)

Milos Kozak
@MilosKozak
May 16 2018 18:23
@philipgo @danamlewis is it not because of zero temping after bolus?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
May 16 2018 18:25
No. It's primarily because with medtronic pumps, issuing a bolus while you're in bolus wizard can crash the pump. But also because connectivity risk and also caregivers freak out if they see long zero temps is also why we recommend keeping that preference off for people with that situation
Similar to how people are reacting right now on Fbk re the AAPS bolus calculator for non-informed caregivers

Cool was able to get offline looping with xdrip today. I had seen a while back discussion on setting up an offline version of NS on rig...could that be used for offline monitoring and inputting data? Is that something that's still in development?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
May 16 2018 22:42
that effort has been abandoned in favor of a simpler offline webpage with similar API endpoints to NS, but not a full NS instance

Hi everyone. My wife switched to Fiasp a few weeks ago, and we've noticed that if she forgets to bolus for a meal, OpenAPS seems to overbasal her for a period of time which leads to stacking and her going low. We've tried overriding "insulinPeakTime" for ultra-rapid to 70 minutes, but it still seems to happen. We have autosens and SMB enabled. What other knobs should we be looking at? Thanks!
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
May 16 2018 23:09
in that situation has she also forgotten to enter the carbs?
and is it overbasaling, or dosing too much with SMB?
Steve Bernacki
@sbernacki
May 16 2018 23:14
She forgets to enter carbs, and it appears to be over basaling (2.5+ u/hr for several hours)
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
May 16 2018 23:17
you might have better luck turning on SMB in that situation than relying on basal corrections
also check autotune and make sure your pump settings match fairly closely
if none of the other settings do the trick, you can enableSMB_always
Steve Bernacki
@sbernacki
May 16 2018 23:19
"enableSMB_with_COB" is the setting for that, correct? We do have that turned on
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
May 16 2018 23:19
except if she doesn't enter carbs, that won't trigger

keep an eye on the total amount of insulin dosed after the meal (easiest to look at reservoir levels before and after) minus normal basal, to see if it ends up dosing more or less than she would have
maybe do a purposeful UAM test while watching it rather than waiting for it to happen accidentally
