Is it possible that the OTG cable I got for hard-connecting my G5 to an Edison/Explorer rig isn't up to spec?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Aug 10 2018 00:56
Is it the one in the docs? Do you have a 5V power source? Does the CGM show charging?
Garrett Webb
@garetis
Aug 10 2018 01:00
G5 shows as connected and charging. Power source is 5000 Anker. OTG cord is from an online dealer. I figured since OTG was a data cable in and of itself there weren't the issues that exist similar to USB A-to-micro
Garrett Webb
@garetis

This is the cord I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M5GZ3N0/. I figure everything is probably right and this might be the biggest culprit for failure. Just wanted to see if that seemed sensible or not that some OTG cables aren't good enough, so to say
This is what my log is showing:

Is this a portrait-mode G5 touchscreen?
I don’t know if those are supported over USB yet.

No, just a regular one I think. It has a "2017-3-20" date on it
I've had it for a little while

@garetis If you have a G5 and you get an EGVRecord parsing error, it probably means the oref0-setup didn't configure your CGM as a G5, as EGVRecord is for the G4
Try running openaps use cgm config --G5
After that command, you should be able to run openaps use cgm iter_glucose 1 and get some data out of your G5
Garrett Webb

Yeah, that was it. Maybe I fat-fingered G4 on the install. So those commands I recognize from building this a looong time ago (then my pump broke and I was out for a while, now back), but don't see them in the docs anymore?

The official method would be to edit your oref0-runagain and run it.
Garrett Webb

Would that be running the cd && ~/src/oref0/bin/oref0-setup.sh?
Also, it looks like I'm getting an OverflowError: Python int too large to convert to C long error in my cgm log, is that common?

I picked up a 6000mAh battery to try with my pi zero rig, but it doesn't seem to like it. At first seemed ok, but then started showing as 270 volts and was not charging. Switched back to my 2000mAh and it is working fine. Is there something to look for in the batteries to know if they will work? I saw the comment about single cell, so is that the issue with the 6000mAh one? ( was this one http://www.canadarobotix.com/battery-chargers/1435-lithium-ion-polymer-lipo-battery-3-7v-6000mah).
Would this one work better, or will it have same issues since more cells stacked? It looks like the same 2000mAh battery I am using now, just 3 of them stacked http://www.canadarobotix.com/battery-chargers/polymer-lithium-Ion-battery-6ah

that should work fine, @wfeddern - i actually just wired 2x 2500mAh in parallel

Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Aug 10 2018 16:38
I believe oref0 disables HDMI by default. Screen doesn’t use much: less than an LED
@nsewar01 we suggested you use the official raspbian image. Did you try that?
@garykidd nope

Aug 10 2018 16:40
Is that the one that needs wifi enabling?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Aug 10 2018 16:42
Yes, by placing your wpa_supplicant.conf on the boot partition. Not sure if that is still in the docs: if not we should probably resurrect it from history.
garykidd
@garykidd
Aug 10 2018 16:46
@scottleibrand I'm interested in evaluating how difficult it might be (let alone the incremental cost and work) it might be to run oref0 on a different platform. I love the pihat setup too and the display by the way and, of course, appreciate all the great work in developing that too though fwiw.

that question is premature until you've figured out what kind of platform you're trying to use
IMO the next platform should be Android
Jon Cluck

Aug 10 2018 17:00
if it can run debian, it can probably run openaps
garykidd
@garykidd
Aug 10 2018 17:17
premature yes...but was thinking that way because trying to see if that might narrow field of platforms for evaluation...
You cant beat the availability, the knowledge base and the cost of the pi setups....but if oref0 could run efficiently on android...and then I guess you'd just need rileylink or similar radio capabilities...that'd be pretty neat.
IMO the one thing I might fear would be that AAPS and oref0 not maintain independence.

AndroidAPS has an implementation of oref0

AndroidAPS uses oref0 as its dosing algorithm.

Can you provide a link to the one you have?
Dana Lewis

Aug 10 2018 18:18
That one has a battery too. My hootoo doesn't - you plug it into USB - so you can get one with or without its own power supply depending on preference/need
(Without battery can obviously be smaller and more lightweight)

@scottleibrand if you just want to enter carbs from pump---you need to have at least a small bolus for carbs to hit loop---is that right?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Aug 10 2018 23:54
with most pumps, they won't record the carbs unless you do at least a 0.1U bolus, correct
some pumps support "meal marker" journal entry as an alternative
