@straykatz
Feb 25 01:00
hm, I'll try it once I get the backup rig working ... thank you
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 01:01
@Zakm0n great, thanks for confirming.

@cluckj I ran this on root, and get this error:

check your internet?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:13
the rig's internet? or mine?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:14
the rig's :laughing:
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:14
Hmm
hmm, has not been seen on NS since I stopped it from looping. Let me see if it's connected to the router
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:20
it was a bit dead ... it's back now
:)
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:20
@straykatz if you've figured out how to post to Gitter w/o Internet, I'd like to know how you did it. ;-)
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:21
Oh - it would be multiple sources - there's LTE, WIFI ... totally passible
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:22
lol
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:23
now ... I gots all the things ... even a micro USB adapter so I can connect the G6 transmitter to the rig (now back online). Should I do the same again (pip install git+git://github.com/openaps/dexcom_reader.git) I mean, it's computers, so have learned that doing the same thing twice does NOT result in the same result.
Oh wait, I did it twice ..
<Awaiting instructions> all eyes and thumbs ... or something./
:)
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:24
yep, it didn't install so do it again
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:25
<pray for us>
root level, right?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:25
:pray:
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:26
huh - computers ... it worked.
next step ...
no griping so far ...
now what -connect G6 transmitter on OTG port, turn off internet and cell phone, and hope for the best?
Btw - I am not clear how the G6 communicates - is it the linked cellphone, and then the receiver ?\
cancel temp basal so I can see if it's working?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:30
if your transmitter connected to the receiver already?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:30
yes
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:31
yep, you got it: connect to the OTG port, run lsusb to see if it's connected, turn off the internet on the edison and see what happens
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:31
lsusb ... ??
ls USB? what does that mean? list?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:33
exactly :)
it'll list the usb devices connected
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:33
root@Diabeetle:~# lsusb
unable to initialize libusb: -99
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:33
oh, whatever. is the charging light active on the receiver?
it's an optional step :laughing:
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:34
yes. OTG is the port close to battery, right?
do you have the "turn off internet on Edison"?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:34
I don't know, I haven't used the edison in forever; does it say on there?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:34
if lsusb says -99, that means it's not doing USB OTG properly
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:35
oy
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:35
ah
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:35
does the charging icon on the Dexcom receiver come on when you plug it in?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:35
no. it's also fully charged
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:35
you can check most things related to offline looping with a physical receiver without going fully offline, if you're willing to watch logs
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:36
sure
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:36
the icon will still have a lightning bolt even if it's just plugged in and no longer charging
if it doesn't, you need to check stuff
do you have external USB power on the UART port?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:36
not charging. I plugged out into the port closer to battery.
not yet
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:36
that is necessary to get it to work
the 3.7V from the lipo is too low: you need 5V from USB power
so, external power on UART, and the OTG cable from the OTG port to the receiver
then reseat all the cables until the screen lights up with a power icon
then we can check lsusb again
If you don’t get a power icon, you can also try reversing the direction of the OTG cable.
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:42
hmm. ok, now I have power -> board on OTG. And Board to receiver on UART. And a charge-light on receiver
So.... lets see what happens. It's not what I had expected though ..
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:44
:thumbsup:
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:45
what should I be looking for, and in which log
?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 02:47
cgm-looplog should stream it?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:51
what did lsusb show?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:51
root@Diabeetle:~/myopenaps# lsusb
unable to initialize libusb: -99
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 02:54
that's not good. charging icon is still on?
if so, you may have only power, but no data, across your OTG cable. try reversing it?
IIRC the square-plastic side goes on the rig side, and the rounded-plastic side goes on the CGM side
and this is a newer explorer board than the one you had at the meetup, right?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 02:57
aok, hang on. I just plugged in the other board I have
same situation - there is no charging power on the receiver, unless I connect power to otg, and receiver to uart
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:00
that's backwards, and won't work for data flow purposes
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:00
maybe the adapter is the issue.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:00
to get data, you have to get it working with power on UART and the receiver on OTG
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:00
I don't have a male micro usb X2 cable, so I am using a Samsung adapter - but it is made for data I understand
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:01
the adapter side should be on the rig's OTG port, then
and the "regular" USB cable should be plugged into the CGM
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:01
no room
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:01
then that adapter won't work
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:02
I only have room for the adapter on the recevier
yea, ok, I'll get a cable and. try again :)
thank you
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:02
they're unidirectional for data
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:02
I see
that would explain it then
if I can find my male micro usb/female big usb OTG cable ....
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:04
yeah, that should work
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:08
ok - so, power to UART, receiver to OTG ... and the charge light is onb
On
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:11
any luck with lsusb now?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:12
yes

straykatz

now, that would be nice ...

looks like something's not quite right with your crontab, and it's running stuff in the wrong place. @cluckj are you familiar with the code she's running?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:16
this rig (diabeetle) had a very hard time to get going ...
my theory is that I "skipped" going the long way and went directly to 0.7.0
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:17
@MicheleJustine if you don't want to re-flash, you can try manually installing node the way openaps-packages does:
        sudo bash -c "curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_8.x | bash -" || die "Couldn't setup node 8"
        sudo apt-get install -y nodejs || die "Couldn't install nodejs"
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 03:17
no, but I know where it is, let me check
JustineAnne
@MicheleJustine
Feb 25 03:18
@scottleibrand will try this.
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 03:18
@straykatz you can see if the connection is getting data with python /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/dexcom_reader/readdata.py
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:18
I can see if things go differently for the other one - red - which I went the long way
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 03:19
oh, it may not be setting the cgm loop directory
that'd be a bug.
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:20
should I run this python /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/dexcom_reader/readdata.py in root?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 03:20
yeah
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:21
yeah, I think that it is a bug, but I have not had the time to double-check
OK, I run it in root
this looks like something is happening

definitely don't loop with it doing that.
that might mean the dexcom_reader update didn't get the decoding correct for the g6?
what are the CGM-related lines in your preferences.json?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 03:38
yes, and they are G5
considering there's no G6 opetion
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 03:39
I thought you had installed a G6 branch?
@cluckj we'll need to figure out what to do about preventing a g5/g6 misconfiguration from causing it to loop off incorrect values

probably, but let's see what the current state is first

"cgm": "G5",
"cgm_loop_path": "/root/myopenaps"
yea, that'd be bad.

ok, let me start with just editing prefs, and see what happens

there's no G6 option for setup (yet), but I'm not sure it matters for this

@MicheleJustine here's a custom excerpt of the bootstrap script to try:
(
BRANCH=master
echo "Press Enter to continue installing the current release (master) of oref0,"
read -p "or enter the oref0 branch name to install." -r
BRANCH=${REPLY:-master}
curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openaps/oref0/$BRANCH/bin/openaps-install.sh > /tmp/openaps-install.sh $BRANCH
bash /tmp/openaps-install.sh
)

G6 or G6-upload?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:33
do you want it to upload from the rig, or is your phone doing that?
@MicheleJustine if that doesn't work, it's fine to re-run bootstrap and set up wifi over again
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:34
Well, Ideally ... it would be from the rig - in case the phone is not available/\discharged etc. what are the disadvantages?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:34
if you have them both uploading, you'll have 2x as much data in NS
but it should be identical data, so other than watching for full mongo collections I don't think there's any problem with doing both
we routinely upload from three CGM receivers, but we also host our own mongo and NS on our own server, not heroku/mongolab
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:35
OK. Pros?
I assume, I don't need THAT phone, as long as I have the rig online?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:36
right
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:36
and, how would I stop the phone from uploading? take Dexcom app off?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:36
yeah, but only do that if you don't want to use Dexcom share/follow/clarity
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:37
oh, wait - does this mean the receiver would have to stay physically connected to the rig?
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:37
most people leave the Dexcom app running for redundancy. if you wanted to you could disable the share bridge in NS
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:37
at all times?
riught
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:37
yeah, that's not a great primary option: you'll still want to upload from your phone
just a question of whether you also want the rig uploading
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 25 04:38
@mattlumpkin ^ @straykatz is doing all the g6 upload testing for you ;)
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:38
OK. Yes, I want to have that option, e.g. when I am out of phone
:) with a lot of self-interest ... win-win-win, huh :)
JustineAnne
@MicheleJustine
Feb 25 04:38
@scottleibrand any other ideas? once again, bootstrap won't complete and I get: "broken packages" message
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:39
was that with my excerpt?
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:39
well. I'll go G6 first and see if that works, and later/tomorrow the G6-upload
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:40
@MicheleJustine this is an edison rig, right?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 25 04:40
@straykatz exactly :smile:
JustineAnne
@MicheleJustine
Feb 25 04:41
yes
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 04:41
ok, then we may need to use the dev branch instead of master, as the dev install script deals better with nodejs
can you try re-running the excerpt, but typing dev instead of just hitting enter?
JustineAnne
@MicheleJustine
Feb 25 04:42
re-run the bootstrap script? or the commands you sent me?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 04:45
boo, the G6 setup is failing for me but it should work once openaps gets updated in pip
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 04:47
well, it set-up without any gripes, other than the last comment:

I don't think crashing there will break anything in your current setup? my git-fu isn't good enough to navigate around it though
you'll have to restart cron

Feb 25 04:54
it's looping
sooo, what are you looking for :)?
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Feb 25 04:56

Feb 25 04:57
ok
happily looping :)
I wonder what happens if I go offline :)
straykatz
@straykatz
Feb 25 05:12
OK, so, rig is happily using offline data pulled in from the receiver with the G6 branch for looping. Thank you for your help and everything. Please let me know what you'd like me to test, and I will do it tomorrow. Nightynight. @cluckj and @scottleibrand

@renegadeandy So what am I supposed to see when I run that command?
Jan Schenk
@jansche
Feb 25 17:53
I currently experience problems with nightscout. Calling the site takes an eternity, and it finally shows only 3 dashes and nothing else on mobile, on desktop it shows the clock, and sometimes an old BG level. NS is hosted on Azure, and the mLab MongoDB has been tidied up. Any pointers where the problem could be?

viq
@viq
Feb 25 18:13
@acember you should see at least one instance of sshd, IIRC running as root, and then one for reach open ssh session. What exactly do you mean by "can't ssh"? What's the error message?
Add -vvv when trying to ssh in, this may help (if from a Linux box or Mac)

@jansche When you say tidied. You mean your DB and disk size is under your plan limits?
Abigail Cember
@acember
Feb 25 18:42
@viq @renegadeandy @cluckj @scottleibrand (everyone that was trying to help me -- thank you!) I figured out at least one thing: on my work set-up, the problem was that my laptop was actually still running on a different network than the rig. When all else failed, I just plugged both my laptop and my rig into hardwired ethernet to the same modem, and then I was finally able to ssh in (I flagged down a linux-fluent colleague to confirm for me that ssh was running on my rig, as per the grep command). That makes me think that I should try hardwiring everything at home, too, as a troubleshooting step--but home is more mystifying, because there's only one network... as far as I know (cue suspenseful music).

@PedanticAvenger yes, 120mb on disk. Emptied device status dB.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand
Feb 25 18:46
some routers block connectivity between different wireless clients, and only give each of them access to the Internet
when you want to ssh to the rig, it's often easiest to just fire up your phone's hotspot and get both devices on to that

Azure says all fine. Any hints what to look for?
I don't. I work for MS... 🤣
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand

nope. you could try asking in one of the NS channels. I've haven't used Azure since the very early days, because they've always had lousy quotas for this use case.

@jansche

Oh, and I between the website starts asking for the API key.
Scott Leibrand
@scottleibrand

you can also try some lower level API calls to try to narrow down the problem
do you have it set up with default deny, or readable?

@scottleibrand, it seems I'm still missing smb's because of the reservoir checks. Can you point me in the right direction to change the tolerance of that check?
if you change the 0.1s to 0.2 that should do the trick

How is IOB calculated ? If I enter insulin on Nightscout that was delivered with a syringe or afreeza it does NOT show up in IOB. The image above shows 20 units of insulin in NS but the IOIB is only th from the SMB ... What have a screwed up ?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 25 22:04
correct, OpenAPS does not take into account any insulin not delivered by the pumpn
Doug
@dougboss
Feb 25 22:11
Thats unfortunate .... I guess to make this work I would need to unhook the set and deliver the 11 units to the ground to keep OpenAPS up to speed ?
Monty A
@surgicalcoder
Feb 25 22:12
The guidance that's always been given in the UK is if you're injecting via pen, unhook the set and delver, so it shows up in IOB
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 25 22:12
if you want it to know about your injection and take it into consideration, yes. if you don't want to waste the insulin, you can unhook the reservoir; do the bolus into the air, then rewind and replace and reprime up to the reservoir, which might lose a few units but likely won't be as much as the 11u
viq
@viq
Feb 25 22:12
There's a "record only" in AAPS
But I guess that's not really relevant to OpenAPS
Doug
@dougboss
Feb 25 22:16
Ok thanks for the hints. Ive been trying Afreeza for the first time to see how much faster it is and it will be easier to judge now that I can get OpenAPS on the same page with me..
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Feb 25 22:18
remeber it's not 1:1 with injected insulin. you may be best suited for setting a high temp target for your rig to know about while you figure out what the equivalent units are for you
(or think about it this way: if you dose to cover a meal or correct a high, make sure OpenAPS doesn't also try to cover/correct for the same thing)
Doug
@dougboss
Feb 25 22:19
Switching subjects, Ive had some issues almost from day 1 ( almost a year now ) getting teh rig to switch networks with out a reboot. Initially it would switch wifi networks when I left home and went on my hotspot or went to work where I preconfigured the Wifi settings. It just struggled to switch to bluetooth with out a reboot. Now in the last few weeks/ months the rigs seem to require a reboot for ANY network change of any type. What kinds of things can I check to see where either I screwed up or where I can adjust to get better results ...
Dana thanks for the tips, yes Ive read enough on the DOC to know that the 4-8 unit does are going to be closer to 6 than 8 ... I will say that I DO enjoy the faster action. When I make a mistake and end up at 200 or higher its nice to have an option to help get it down faster ... also nice for meals like sushi that Novolog simply CANT keep up with ..
