good morning! So it got late last night and I let it run the installer overnight. I came back and it seems the Pi installer ran into an error.

make sure you have the right pump serial number, then check some of your hardware: antenna, pump battery, check to see if "remote options" are enabled on the pump,

Apr 21 02:37
Hi all! I am just wondering if someone can just walk me through updating my instance of oref0? Last time I did it my loop stopped working! This is what I'm seeing in my logs: Your instance of oref0 [0.7.0-dev, setup-improvements] is out-of-date by 2 commits: you may want to consider updating.
I just wanted to make sure I'm doing it right
Jon Cluck
@cluckj
Apr 21 02:40
@Propelld you don't need to do that this time (one commit was changing something, the other commit was undoing it), but in the future you can do it by cd ~/src/oref0 && git pull && npm run global-install; sometimes you'll need to re-run oref0-setup but only rarely

@davidvjr cat: monitor/medtronic_frequency.ini: No such file or directory is a weird error, can you run that on the command line: cat ~/myopenaps/monitor/medtronic_frequency.ini?
@mhaeberli the rssi is pretty bad, is it a lot of retries that are slowing down the loops?

I have a special connection to a doctor who is hoarding the 722 medtronic pumps, they've been discontinued already, but there's still a few left.

Mostly we have the 620g & the semi-closed loop 670g. I've been encouraging everyone to keep their 722 for closing the loop. :)

the first one I will make after I get mine working will be for this doctor.

I need some advice. I followed the instructions for flashing the Edison using the Mac specific instructions. Everything seemed to go pretty well. I got "U-boot & Kernel System Flash Success". The board seemed to go through several cycles of "Starting kernel..." and then it stopped for a long time on " Ready to receive application " (I had my battery connected) and next time I looked at it, it was back to a regular terminal command prompt. However the terminal window was non-responsive, and when I tried to start the Edison in screen mode in another terminal window, I got "cannot exec '/dev/tty.usbserial-*'". I tried switching back over to the "all computer types" flashing instructions and started the flashing process again, but I got stuck because I cannot reboot the board. I've tried power cycling the board, but I'm still unable to start it in screen mode. I've scanned through the trouble shooting tips, but I don't see anything that seems like it would be helpful. Thank you for any pointers you may have on where to go from here.

@emsamom which oref0 branch are you running?
If master, step 2 of https://gist.github.com/scottleibrand/9372092ac914c7edbe23fa4eb94b83d8 should apply the fixes to allow you to keep using jessie.
@WhatWouldHoneyBadgerDo check your USB cables. Make sure you’re not using a USB hub. Try swapping the cables out.
For computers with only USB-C ports I recommend something like this: Cable Matters USB C to Micro USB Cable (Micro USB to USB-C Cable) with Braided Jacket 3.3 Feet in Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UUBRX0Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_oSkVCbPYMK8CM
(Might be worth adding that to the docs if you want to PR it.)

@WhatWouldHoneyBadgerDo I get this same thing with my Mac. Shutting it down, and resetting the SMC does the trick every time. I do it every time now, because it just does not work otherwise for me. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201295
maybe this will change with the new cables Scott recommended - we'll see when they arrive tonight. Yay Amazon.
the post that Gitter swallowed was around those lines - new cables, new adapters - better, but not good. Downgrading to Jubilinux 0.2.0 worked better than using Jubilinux 0.3.0, but doing that only 3 times each is not enough data. It's probably the USB-C cable adapters on my new MacBook, and defective USB ports on the old one. New cables (USB-c to Micro USB) are one the way, and I am also looking for an old PC laptop. It's been a long 3 weeks. :-o

A question about uam and carbs absorption
It seems that enableUAM is on by default, but this is an oref1 feature. Should I keep it enabled?
Should I set the carbs absorption settings anywhere? I did not see where I can set it.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Apr 21 19:40
@tzachi-dar carb absorption is dynamic. The only setting you (might, but most people don't) need to tweak would be the minimum carb absorption setting, but most folks don't need to do that.
tzachi-dar
@tzachi-dar
Apr 21 19:46
@danamlewis Does it depend on autotune? Is it related to autosens_max? should I leave enableUAM true?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Apr 21 19:46
what are you trying to achieve?
tzachi-dar
@tzachi-dar
Apr 21 19:48
Be as safe as possible when starting to use openaps in the days as well.
I have limited autosense and autotune functionality by setting autosens_max to 1.01 and autosense_min to 0.99
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Apr 21 19:49
UAM is safe, so I would be fine turning that on. I would not mess with the default min carb absorption number
tzachi-dar
@tzachi-dar
Apr 21 19:49
does It means that if bg starts to rise it will assume carbs were given?
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Apr 21 19:50
UAM allows it do a little bit more and more quickly if you have an unexplained rise. That could be stress, delayed or missed carbs, wonky pump site, etc. Doesn't matter why.
it's still limited by all your other safety settings, though

Thank you for the suggestions @scottleibrand and @straykatz . Resetting the SMC got me past the "cannot exec '/dev/tty.usbserial-*'" error, but now when I try to start the Edison in screen mode the blank screen appears and it does not wake up when I press enter. I'm not using a hub, but I am using USB to USB-C adapters for my cables. The cables plus adapters work for downloading my pump data. And they also seemed to work when I was going through the install the first time. And I tried a second set of cables (that also work to download my pump data). Knowing that, does it seem like a cable issue? I'm happy to order the ones you suggested if you still think it might help.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Apr 21 19:51
@tzachi-dar if you're just starting daytime use, no issue w/ keeping your existing settings and monitoring until you're comfortable; then enable UAM and monitor some more so you can see the difference

Dana Lewis

Apr 21 19:56
@tzachi-dar that's fine. generally, it's easier to change one thing at a time. so if you move to daytime & need to increase maxIOB, start with that. after a few days, you can try UAM. etc.

By the way, I wonder, for the 712, I saw that ISF was constant for the entire day, and I had to change that in the code. I was happy to see that with the new pump it is set by the hour. Is it something that I did wrong with the 712 or just a limitation of this setup?
OK, so keeping UAM off.
Dana Lewis
@danamlewis
Apr 21 19:58
that was x12. But, note that with OpenAPS, it uses 1 ISF throughout the day in autotune. you can have multiple programmed in your pump and use that (or multi carb ratios) for manual actions, but autotune will use it's one tuned rate for calcuations.

Rebecca- as for my situation, I am leaning toward cables at this point - I have two brand-new Apple brand adapters with brand-new expensive usb cables - things are much better, but not reliable. I am getting the new cables tonight and will likely give it a go; I’ll keep you posted. None of this means however that we have the same issues though, beyond the SMC issue which seems to be a Mac thing. I found it cruel and unusual that the old Mac also had port Problems - and running the flashing on the new Mac had issues - not great for troubleshooting. :-)
