just got a RFM69HCW Bonnet —> (yes! They are back in stock on adafruit. $19.95)~~> using Raspi 3B & RFM69HCW - Once i enable cronjobs at the end of oref0 install - HDMI signal to my monitor suddenly gets turned off- for some reason. The Raspi is still powered on and running, but just no HDMI signal. I restart the pi and it works fine, but …. after about 5 mins, maybe 15, it keeps doing it. /*/ im guessing its something to do with cronjobs. anyone know by chance? i am not very familiar with Linux, or running from the command line these days…i suppose its possible, ive gotten a wee bit spoiled by nice GUI’s over the years. i dont think ive used my terminal since the days of AOL & 56k modems. Im currently running newest ver of Raspian- Stretch. Sooo, any insight would surely be helpful.

That’s on purpose to save battery.
You should set up ssh access and use that instead if possible.

Find the tvservice line in one of the oref0-cron files.

Hi @cluckj @jonny772 I am finding the raspberry pi 3 model a+ maybe doesn't support pibakery - am getting this issue : davidferguson/pibakery#175
I suppose I could just do the pibakery setup after installing raspbian the normal way?

pibakery is just an easier way of doing the raspbian flash with etcher, you don't need to install it afterwards

Tried following the troubleshooting steps for "Could not get subg rfspy state or version ccprog" but keep running into additional errors. Could someone point me in the direction of what to try next?

@cluckj can you take a look at my stackexchange post above? I can't get the thing to boot

@cluckj I got it - i tried to shortcut the imaging process and it didn't copy all files to the sd card correctly. Did it with etcher and its all working now :D

@cluckj I got it all working! Freaking amazing!

I noticed a couple of doc bits which are out of date -- the installer script does the end bits of this for you : https://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/docs/Build%20Your%20Rig/pi-install.html#finish-installation

If I get time soon ill do a pull req to fix

How does the pi handle abrupt turn offs (by disconnecting power? -- I imagine that will happen quite a bit for me as I move this base station rig aorund my house to find a good position?
Will it try to boot back up happily?

they don't like it very much, but it's mostly the SD card (you can just reflash)
try a USB battery bank?

May 11 18:35
i really think this station will be static (wont move it around) lol
What I need is like a mini ups for 5v
so i can keep it alive for 30 minutes between sites if i shifted for example
is there anything i can install onto the pi to improve its stability if it gets shut down in an uncontrolled mannor?

I have a couple USB battery banks with passthrough which act like that

May 11 18:39
Yeah, would be good to try...
also - does pi handle disconnect of HDMI and usb stably? i.e normal operation i won't plug those in, but i may on occasion plug a display in?

May 11 18:42
yes
there's some code in cron to disable the HDMI port, you may need to remove that
renegadeandy
@renegadeandy
May 11 18:59
so what are the specifics of what that disable does?
