    @stefanmve there??
    stefanmve
    @stefanmve
    @rk08 usually you don't need to manually put anything in the node_modules folder, just let npm install things there from your project root.
    js
    @js08
    Yrah is there any command to prevent that type of installation
    stefanmve
    @stefanmve
    I'm not sure what you mean. Just make sure you run npm install from the project root where package.json is, and don't manually put anything in node_modules folder.

    What I am trying to do is when I do npm install for my app itself I need to check unused dependencies in package.json.

    Is there any way to include depcheck-es6 package https://www.npmjs.com/package/depcheck-es6 during npm install itself, so that I don't need to install it seprately see unused dependencies like this

    D:\todomvc>.\node_modules.bin\depcheck Unused Dependencies

    classnames react-redux Unused devDependencies

    babel-core babel-loader jsdom node-libs-browser raw-loader react-hot-loader style-loader todomvc-app-css

    Thanks,

    @stefanmve there??

    @dylants @stefanmve I talked to the folks here at PayPal/Braintree Austin office, we should be able to host the meetup!
    Dylan Smith
    @dylants
    awesome, thanks for doing that!

    We're interested in hosting an NodeSchool in Austin March 13 with Vinli (our co) and Mapbox. :)
    stefanmve
    @stefanmve
    Awesome, what did you have in mind?
    Chris George
    @Cscottgeorge
    we want to share a NodeSchool exercise using Vinli's vehicle apis and Mapbox's data visualization–special SXSW stickers too
    stefanmve
    @stefanmve
    How would that work? Is there a nodeschool module that uses those services? Do you have a venue in mind?
    Gangstead
    @gangstead
    Hey guys I'm one of the organizers of Nodeschool Dallas and I work with @Cscottgeorge at Vinli. The most important thing I want to get out of this is to swap some of our stickers for yours
    Chris George
    @Cscottgeorge
    I'm lining up a venue right now. Thought we'd reach out and see if y'all had any venue ideas given SXSW craziness
    Gangstead
    @gangstead
    I'm working on a workshopper that uses our vinli-cli library, but probably won't be ready in time. We just want to do a developer focused SXSW event since our entire platform is Node based
    stefanmve
    @stefanmve
    Yeah, it would be crazy, and we already have a meetup scheduled for March 1 in the downtown area
    Chris George
    @Cscottgeorge
    Thanks @stefanmve

    good afternoon all. New one here.. and like many others have asked previously, I wanted to reach out to the nodeschool community on what is the best way to learn node. I want to learn node very well, and I know that by doing you can learn, but can you recommend any website, books, tutorials
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    Hey, @luislaborda, not sure if you're opened to it, but next Monday is http://www.nodetogether.org/ and it's happening here in ATX at the Capital Factory. It's an all day event and tailored toward beginners but good even if you've already delved into Node a bit. Best of all, it's free! Not sure if there're any slots available. But it's worth checking.
    LuisLaborda
    @luislaborda
    Is It only one day?
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    yes
    NodeInteractive conference starts on Tues.
    LuisLaborda
    @luislaborda
    seems to be a bit too basic for me.
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    also, unless you've already done so, i'd highly recommend going to local Node meetups etc.
    LuisLaborda
    @luislaborda
    I already build a couple express single page app, I'm trying to learn more node core, like streams and other parts of node
    I just don't want to go through the hello world process. Also, about securing a site
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    if you're really serious about learning node core at a mid-advanced level, then you probably want to start contributing the core project on GH and/or peripheral, Node projects on there as well.
    LuisLaborda
    @luislaborda
    now we are talking. ;-) what are GH and peripheral?
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    GH = GitHub, the main node core project is at https://github.com/nodejs/node and the organization is at https://github.com/nodejs
    LuisLaborda
    @luislaborda
    Is there any book you recommend getting?
    oh github
    got it
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    if you're wanting to learn core node, you will not find any books on that.
    peripheral --> projects that are based on node but not necessarily node core itself.
    no books --> you need to immerse yourself in the community, and not just the local community, but the core, Node eco-system.
    LuisLaborda
    @luislaborda
    Thanks Monico, I'll check out the node core on github. The thing is that I feel that there are some many packages already, that seems a projects can get overwhelmed with them, and possibly be more simple with node way, versus adding packages for everything you trying to do.
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    Sure thing. Btw, part of the art of development (not just programming) in Node is walking that fine line between using good packages vs. badly maintained pkgs...along with other ideas like using packages when you could simply use native js, all the while making sure to account for different js runtime platforms, which is where well-written/maintained pkgs really help. Lots and lots of factors to consider --> again, it's an art, that one of development (and not just programming).
    Monico Moreno
    @cdnadmin
    for tonight's meetup: here is the NPM module: https://www.npmjs.com/package/innersourceadventure

    @stefanmve
    Hello, this chat supports the Austin nodeschool Meetup which is active, the chatter room goes quiet pretty often but we're still alive
