lazlojuly
@lazlojuly
Hello, is Nodeschool happening in September? I would love to be involved - either organising or mentoring! @iancrowther @clarkie @bernardbaker @alanshaw ?
Ben White
@benthewhite
I'm finally free to do another one again so I'm definitely up for it :)
lazlojuly
@lazlojuly
:tumbleweed:
Bernard Baker
@bernardbaker
I'd like to do a talk on microservices.
@benthewhite it'd be great to present with you again.
Ben White
@benthewhite
Yeah man I'd be well up for co presenting again :) if you've got something in mind to talk about i'd be happy to do the same as before (introduce what we're doing, getting started with some exercises etc)
Bernard Baker
@bernardbaker
@benthewhite sounds great..
Ben White
@benthewhite
@iancrowther when you get a chance drop one of us a message about what we need to do / who we need to talk to to get everything together :)
Bernard Baker
@bernardbaker
@clarkie can you put @benthewhite in touch with John about proposing a talk for the meetup?
Bernard Baker
@bernardbaker
@benthewhite I've taken a look at meetup and the slots for talks are already taken.

Hello Node.Js people
I have a quick question
i have finished learnyounode
i am wondering what would be good to carry on after that workshop
Any recommendations would be much appreciated
Alan McGinlay
@amcginlay
It's less hands on but get on YouTube and look up "JavaScript:Understanding The Weird Parts - The First 3.5 Hours" ... the rest of the 11 hour tutorial isn't free but worth the cash.
Jon Kelly
@jkbits1
the stream-adventure workshop is great
Alan McGinlay
@amcginlay
+1 on that too
JonathanWatkins
@JonathanWatkins
Hey everyone. Does anyone know any good resources to help a 15 year old learn CSS and some JavaScript. Trying to find some inspiring projects that they could do in a self guided way.
Alan Shaw
@alanshaw
I made a start on a workshop for this a while ago https://github.com/alanshaw/stylist - might be a little too technical for a 15yo
I usually recommend this for new JavaScript programmers: http://jsforcats.com/
JonathanWatkins
@JonathanWatkins
Nice
Jsforcats is very cool.
I think I'll suggest they start with that.
This lad is into media and design but hadn't considered web design as a creative field.
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
@JonathanWatkins specifically web stuff? or learn programming in general?
ffs accidentally unwatched the repo, was wondering why everything was so quiet
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
yo @alanshaw I’m thinking about posting an event for feb
Alan Shaw
@alanshaw
I'm happy to come and help out - when we're you thinking?
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
sometime following LNUG feb
so either the thursday again (if we can get Makers Academy) or even saturday AM/earlyPM
I’m kinda thinking it’d be nicer to do a saturday and have more time and it be slightly more structured
obv maybe a bit ambitious
I’m guessing LNUG will be 22nd so either 23rd or 25th (if we can get somewhere on a saturday all day)
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
Okay everyone it’s up! Check out #46!
JonathanWatkins
@JonathanWatkins
@srounce this lad is design focused so I thought web might be better. Could get into game programming with a Js library. What do you think?
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
yeah, I was thinking games would be best
or shaders
shaderschool is pretty cool (if a little esoteric if you’re not familiar with the modern graphics pipeline)
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
I think his best bet if he takes that route is to mess around with something like goocreate
write some handler code in JS but mostly everything is WYSIWYG if I recall
then when he wants more control/power he should probably have a go at implementing a simple Entity-Component System
as well as messing with Three.JS
lazlojuly
@lazlojuly
@srounce thanks for re-starting Nodeschool yesterday! It was great to mentor again :sparkles:
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
it was a pleasure
thx again to all who came and of course to @iteles & Founders & Coders for hosting us!
👍👍👍
@lazlojuly when do you wanna meet and try and get a real plan together for next month? (Anyone else up for this too?)
Ines Teles Correia
@iteles
<3 It was a pleasure to have you! Thanks to @lucymonie for covering the afternoon!!
Samuel Rounce
@srounce
indeed!
