@RogueString Don't want to program it? :-)
RogueString
@RogueString
oh , I'm thinking a quick python script should do the trick, just being lazt ;)
*lazy
and I was curious too, to see if it could be done
sasumner
@sasumner
Yes, Python is the way to go. You can do Python "inside" notepad++, and it is fairly easy to do what you want
So there's a function editor.rereplace that takes 2 arguments; one is your string to search for, the other is a function where you could for example do math on what was found; your function then returns the text that should replace the originally matched text
You might want to try it; gain another tool in your toolbox

DrRounds
@DrRounds
@hasenradball You can select from the supplied themes by opening the "Style Configurator" under the "Settings" menu and selecting from those in the "Select Theme" selection box. When you select a different theme, the theme settings are applied to your open file so you can see the effect. When you find a theme that you like, click the [Save & Close] button to save your settings. If you do not find a style 100% to you liking, you can modify the settings as desired (remember to save your changes).
@MrJitendra_B_twitter The spelling checker is a plugin called "DSpellCheck". Once you have installed this plugin and restart NotePad++, DSpellCheck appears in the Plugin menu. You can configure DSpellCheck via its menu.

@hasenradball
@DrRounds I have no other theme than default as option.

@hasenradball
i instslled the npp++ as standard user not as admin. For the standard user the themes not available but if I log in as administrator I have the othercthemrs available.

@yaminb
sweet. anyone know if there's a default way or a plugin to always open certain files? My workflow is such that I end up with a huge list of files. Most of which I want to close every now and then except for a few key files I always want open. I generally use the 'close all but this functionality' to close all other tabs. then i go and reopen my standard list of files i always want open
sasumner
@sasumner
@yaminb I use the Explorer plugin's "Favorites" feature for this. It doesn't "always open certain files" but it keeps your favorite files in a concise list so they are just a double-click away from reopening.
yaminb
@yaminb
giving it a try now
@sasumner this works great and the explorer side bar stays up across restarts. thanks!

good day. I need some help with notepad++, as I was trying to remove unwanted EOL chars in .CSV file, but ended up making a file which is 3,645 columns, one line, about 100,000,000 characters long. needless to say my notepad++ continuously crashes, then reopens the offending file when notepad++ is opened, and crashes again. How can I stop this file from opening automatically? when opened with another editor, the file has not yet been changed as shown by ++. help!?

@sasumner
@corymilligan87 Remove the file from session.xml ?

when i save a file as either a 'txt file' or as 'all files', it is saving (just) as a FILE - why isnt it saving as a .txt file?

when i save a file as either a 'txt file' or as 'all files', it is saving (just) as a FILE - why isnt it saving as a .txt file?

when i go to open the file, i can't - i have to choose a program to open with (so i choose NOTEPAD) - previously, i used to be able to save the file as a .txt and when i wanted to open it, i would just click on it an it would open in notepad - what am i doing wrong / has something changed in the software?

Hello! I am conducting a "log reading training" and would like to use Notepad++. Each log has about 25,000 lines and I would like to have certain pre-highlighted as I go through and speak about them. Is this possible?
Correction: ...certain lines pre--highlighted...
sasumner
@sasumner
@GMarkgelin_twitter Probably. You can colorize content using Search (menu) > Mark All > (pick a style). Try that and see if it gets you something workable for your training

Hi. I think my RegEx engine is crashing because my file is too big. I'm using a negative lookbehind, (?<!>)\r\n, that works fine when I copy a few lines from the original to test it, but simply selects everything when I try to apply it to my 192k lines and 63kk characters long file.

Is there something I should be doing different?

sasumner
@sasumner
@fabiorfreitas "selects everything" is a clue that it is overwhelming the regex engine somehow. It's an area marked for improvement in N++.
fabiorfreitas
@fabiorfreitas
Hm, I see
I guess I'll just use another editor for that part than, thanks!
While I'm here, is there a way to perform a search and replace for Unicode characters? Like, say I have multiple occurrences of U+0024, U+0025 and so on and would like to have them replaced for $, % etc. Is there a way to do it?
sasumner
@sasumner
@fabiorfreitas Yes, let me verify the syntax...hang on
@fabiorfreitas The regex syntax for that would be \x{0024} I believe
fabiorfreitas
@fabiorfreitas
Ok, thank you!
fabiorfreitas
@fabiorfreitas
Hm, but that doesn't seem to work when I try \x{\1}. It works when I use it literally, but not when referencing a group.
sasumner
@sasumner
@fabiorfreitas Yes. In the regex engine, when using \x{dddd} the d can only be hex digits
@fabiorfreitas But rereading your earlier question I can see it was leading to an all-at-once replacement
Mark G
@GMarkgelin_twitter
@sasumner thank you! I do like the way it looks and it would be perfect, however, saving the file does not save the added styles (highlights). Is there a way i can save that?
