Whoah. Does this get logged anywhere within our repo?
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
I'm not sure. It was recommended to me on Twitter by Hal Snyder, one of our course followers.
Gil Forsyth
@gforsyth
my posts are also disappearing on the forum
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
It's a chat room, associated with the GitHub repo. Since Discussion forum is down, this could keep some conversations alive
It's totally broken. Strange things started happening when I deleted a duplicate post.
Gil Forsyth
@gforsyth
That's kind of pathetic -- that something that simple can completely break a system
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
It's because of a deep bug in MongoDB and mismatch between versions of the different components used in the Open edX
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
I'll be back in the chat room in a couple of hours, in case anyone shows up.

Hey there, this is FredInChina from the forum :)
FredInChina
@ReblochonMasque
It seems that the forum is working now; if it was for me to make a decision, I would seriously consider cutting my losses and move on with the course, there were not that many high value conversations yet.
But of course, that surely depends on what sort of time you guys have to spend to restore the vanished posts. :)
It's bed time for me here, so I'll salute y'all and be on my way - Cherio...

@ReblochonMasque
BTW, I love what you guys are doing and how you are taking every little problem in stride with good humor :)

@DrXyzzy
Hal from Chicago. I spent some of yesterday and today trying to redo the first phugoid tutorial with symbolic computation. Any SymPy wizards on board?
There is some gitter.im action in sympy/sympy.
Hal Snyder
@DrXyzzy
Hope they get MathJax going here. More fun doing math that looks like math and not COBOL.
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
Hi all, I'm back now, in case anyone wants to chat.
Hal, we would love to see your symbolic phugoid tutorial … We were going to announce the "Assignment Bank" a bit later, but here you go ...
It's a place for course followers to contribute their own assignments, so ideal for what you did! I recommend that you add a copyright notice somewhere, and ideally license it out under CC-BY for others to use.
Pull request to it.
Hal Snyder
@DrXyzzy
I can post what I have to github. I slowed down when I got to the diff eqs (10) and (11) because I haven't done that in symbolics yet. It's in SageMathCloud, which draws a lot from Maxima and SymPy.
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
Neat!
Hal Snyder
@DrXyzzy
oops, I just forked assignment-bank. Haven't done pull request before.
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
That's OK. You can pull-request from there.
Hal Snyder
@DrXyzzy
I can commit a .sagews and a .pdf. How do you want things named? This is a (partial) translation of 01_01_Phugoid_Theory.ipynb
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
I haven't used SageMathCloud much … can it export to .ipynb? You can name it 01_01_Phugoid_Theory_Sympy.ipynb (or such)
Hal Snyder
@DrXyzzy
SMC can do .ipynb, in fact I have been viewing the first lesson there. But I'm using SMC worksheets to learn that system as well. I'd like to post the sage & SMC versions first, then work back to IPython / Sympy
Ok, need a few min to put things together...
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
Don't worry, no rush. Just know that our intention was to have the Assignment Bank be a place where everyone can post their variations or extensions on the course.

Hi all. Awaiz from Aurangabad, india
I chose to use git via terminal and when posting my first commit... git comes up with a "Tell me about yourself" error. Learnt the hard way that git was installed but not yet completely configured.
Although the solution can be found easily by running a search, I am writing my adventures none the less.
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
Did we forget to say how to config git with your name and email on the tutorial?
Awaiz Muakdam
@awaizmukadam
uh I think I might have skipped it the other day..
Let me check once again.
oops
i found my error apologies
Lorena A. Barba
@labarba
I'm actually looking for it and can't find it … where do we say it? (if at all)
Awaiz Muakdam
@awaizmukadam
I was trying to commit using a different email id...
