    great! So I will put the trusty for in the UPDATES.json file. Yet now what is the reason for us to put versions other than 14.04 on our site if they all going to update to 14.04?

    Since I'm going to sleep now I will publish everything tomorrow which is a still good of a day (traffic wise).

    there are two ways to handle this issue, either send the user to the website and then it's up to the user to choose the installer that suit to the OS used or check the version of the OS and then set in the updates.json the link to that is adequate to the os version detected.
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    Of course, the second option is the best one, for the user.
    How hard/easy it is to detect different versions of Ubuntu?
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    I think there should be a way to detect the version of the OS
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    I think it's important to do that.
    but it was added in Qt5.4
    so we can't use it in trusty
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    Shit... :worried:
    But it's great they added it anyway
    There must be a linux customized way to do that, but we need to brace ourselves for messiness.
    I'm having thoughts about dropping automatic updates for 14.04
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    14.04 is still supported till 2019
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    The question is how much are using it. @theshadowx I think we discussed in the past about a way to detect Ubuntu version and came up with some ways, aren't we?
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    I think it was for DE, but of course there should be an easy way to detect the OS version
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    mmm yes, right.
    is that going to work?
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    ya but we can find better
    we let this to the next release
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    We theoratically can, right? Our users will all get a trusty update. But on the next version we can tell it to search for the appropriate Ubuntu version on UPDATES.json (by detecting the local version), right?
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    ya
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    So if I'm downloading 16.04 package --> Get an update to 14.04 package --> Next update to 16.04 package.
    As long it's that way and out-of-the-way for the user I'm ok with that approach.
    Ok, we'll implement that (detecting os's) on our next minor release.
    Going to sleep now, night.
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    ok see ya

    Everything is published!
    I have been waiting for this moment a long time.
    @theshadowx Thanks a lot for the amazing work you've putted into Notes.
    And also thanks a lot for the other contributors (if you're reading this).
    We have made something really good together.
    And it's just start of something that would hopefully become truly great.

    @theshadowx
    how's the ratings
    Ali Diouri
    @theshadowx
    don't forget to contact https://sourceforge.net/ guys
    Ruby Mamistvalove
    @nuttyartist
    Yeah I contacted them, here it is: https://sourceforge.net/projects/notes.mirror/
    Ratings? You mean the traffic?
    Here's the downlaods statistics http://www.somsubhra.com/github-release-stats/?username=nuttyartist&repository=notes
    And from Google Analytics I can see a slight increase in traffic (25% compared to last month), but not that much.
    I didn't do yet any emailing for blogs and stuff. I mainly want to target Windows blogs.
    I think that is where we could see spike in traffic, and increasing our user base.
    Currently most of the traffic comes from Google searches.
