@mistergibson I hope that Opal stays on Github. I think it is time to recognize that Microsoft is nowadays not the same company we were hating for years. They are already one of the most active organisations (1800 rpositories, 3800 people) on Github. We had to expect an aquisition of Github. And we can be glad that it is not aquired by a hedgefonds. I think we should relax.

I know Balmer is no longer there and that HE was the source of much of the misconduct - I'm just suspicious of them - seen the bodies on the road so to speak.
I do recognize the shift in culture there though, so - who knows. It might be different this time

however, microsoft windows as an operating system is still trash. i deal with an enormous amount of support on a near daily basis with customers and the quality control is going down hill. if they could get their user interface together and take the cues that are necessary for UI/UX resurrection from what steve jobs did, then they would have a chance.

@ylluminate : I know - in my tech support days I made a good living keeping Winderz up and running. It was an OS that needs constant care to keep running well.

the bad thing is that it has gotten worse. didn't think it was possible. updates over the last 2 years have been demonic. there's been like a 25% chance of having it just entirely blowing up on you.

@ylluminate : Personally, I run Linux Mint on all my gear - all four systems and I'm very pleased.
I only run Winderz in a virtual box VM - that's as close to my hardware as Micro$haft comes.

i used to run linux and fbsd a lot about 20 years ago. i still run it on servers and a few workstations, but by far and large macos is the best of breed for mixed dev environments now. it's sad that gnome has become such a thing. kde was - and really still is - the best alternative that linux has to really unify the UI/UX, but it seems that the distro and wm fractionalization is just out of control. really makes me sad.
