@mikedillion @Inform8n Here's a quick screengrab from last convo with PVA: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mehgnqljtcrwcag/Screenshot%202015-07-03%2010.38.28.png?dl=0
Glad to introduce you to David, Carolyn, Andrea...but I haven't talked with them since Feb.

@JunHuang01
@chaserx I thought I checked in a .... project for snowday :P

@Inform8n
So I know most of you know how to use GitHub but for us lame non-programmers... I'm working on a setup for Google Docs for some easy lists/spreadsheets with some initial things to get accomplished. I realized that via my UK Google address (which I never use) that offer "unlimited" space to those addresses... it's actually about 5TB but I figure that's enough to store most of what we're working on ;-) So I'm setting up the share etc and some initial documentation based on some things I was thinking
@nicksuch @mikedillion I've written to David Oneill (and his sys-admin) at least 2-3 times and never gotten a response. I've heard from several people that an open records request just results in hostility from there. If someone can get direct DB access that I can hammer some things out in Tableau (I assume it's some kind of SQL DB) I may just love you forever. =D
Also I started a wishlist... should I turn on public anonymous edits to it? That way I don't have to collect email addresses (since Google keeps version backups anyway in case someone got malicious). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kuFJjsmUsJDaq-DbX6B-Oege_fi8hEAUGL5iGhJFqbU/edit?usp=sharing

There's a published, public API for the PVA, but it was pretty easy to reverse engineer. We could make some mechanize scripts to get what we want and be nice about it.

Results from the Bluegrass 10,000 are up. https://results.chronotrack.com/event/results/event/event-15335
I can't figure out how to begin scraping it. No right-clicky access :-/

Don't know if that data is interesting to anyone, particularly today. Still, there ya have it :us: :us: :us:

Might be some oportunity for some cross collaboration on this: https://datala.github.io/bradley-tower/
Went ahead and banged this out from the data.... though it's missing a few records (I'm thinking it's the wheelchair records)

Sweet! I made a map of just hometown counts. More of an excuse to play with CartoDB.js than anything. http://bl.ocks.org/maptastik/raw/60959b722f7048626216/
But I'm thinking I need to look more into this Tableau stuff. I have it downloaded but haven't really taken the leap.

@Inform8n
@maptastik dude Doo EEEEET! Seriously, I re-created your population map in a few minutes. The big problem I have is with data freshness which I've talked to @mikedillion about...
Mike Dillion
@mikedillion
@Inform8n Tableau question: are there any plugins or integrations for specific data sources?
Like is there an open source plugin community? Please Google for me.
;)
Ryan Cooper

@mikedillion
Around 8AM I actually tried to find some on Github. This was the closest I got: https://github.com/Btibert3/tableau-r
So I have to pay for Tableau AND it's hard to extend? :/
Ryan Cooper
@maptastik
Just have to do all you dataviz with D3. May JavaScript haunt all your dreams! :ghost:
Jack King
@Inform8n
Well the Tableau workbooks are actually just XML that you can modify
as are the extracts
Jack King
@Inform8n
There actually are plugins/integrations but they're typically NOT open source projects... what specific data sources are you looking to import and I can tell you if the full desktop version supports it or not
Jack King
@Inform8n
Specifically there are quite a few mapping ones which will drill down specifically to the xxxxx-xxxx style of zip codes and higher accuracy GPS lat/long
Mike Dillion
@mikedillion
Like if a site had an API to get data that involved doing oauth, etc
Could I make a module for Tableau to make that easier so I could then do cool shit with their jazz?
Chase Southard
@chaserx
per our friends in Louisville, we should add Lex address data to open addresses. https://github.com/openaddresses/openaddresses#contributing-addresses
issue added: openlexington/OpenLexington#49
Jun Huang
@JunHuang01
@maptastik the maptimeLEX gitter keeps crashing... not cool... :S
Ryan Cooper
@maptastik
@JunHuang01 Yeah, Mike (without ill intention!) posted a huge image in there and Gitter apparently allows that.
Currently trying to figure out how to remedy it, but I've not gotten very far
Jun Huang
@JunHuang01
lol :D
Hey, mike is going to be a data engineer at a super cool startup!
So, you know this is why he gets that job. :D
@maptastik maybe a support ticket ask gitter to fix it ? :D
