It looks like Microsoft removed the dzi xsd: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645033%28v=vs.95%29.aspx (notice download link borken)

:(
(which is also broken)
So...what's the point of an xsd anyway?

@avandecreme Anyway, thanks for the heads up! I've pinged someone at Microsoft...

well I was checking if the xsd would allow me to insert some image metadata in there
Although, I think there is a 2009 version, or at least I got some images with 2009 instead of 2008
Ian Gilman
@iangilman

Does that one work?
Antoine Vandecreme
@avandecreme
May 12 2015 18:54
nope

Of course if you're using OSD, I think it's pretty liberal about what it accepts...extra data shouldn't be a problem
Antoine Vandecreme
@avandecreme
May 12 2015 18:54
but I think that normal
those are actually just the namespace, not the xsds
Ian Gilman

May 12 2015 18:55
What's the URL for the 2009 one?
Gotcha
I don't know that much about XML
Antoine Vandecreme
@avandecreme
May 12 2015 18:56
yeah me neither, those namespaces URL are weird

:)
Anyway, if you're just using OSD, go nutty ;)
Antoine Vandecreme
@avandecreme
May 12 2015 18:57
yeah maybe I will just add my stuff in the dzi

Cool! About time we start building that sort of thing in the browser
Also, love the cat :)

I still don't like letting the screen dictate the image I am sending. I'd rather something at the OS level like "they're on a crappy connection, send them a 1x" and "oh sweet wifi, let's get nuts" or "eak, battery low, grab the 1x"
Ian Gilman
@iangilman
May 12 2015 20:21
Indeed, that would be lovely

Like a naming scheme sorta like those iOS app icons work I guess maybe.
Ian Gilman
@iangilman
May 12 2015 20:25
Or it could even be an extension of <picture> but with other concerns than screen size or format availability
For that matter, knowing things like connection quality and battery level would be handy to have in the JavaScript as well

@iangilman Definitely.

The whole 2x image thing bothers me a bit anyway. One of the first things they tell you to do to make your page faster is to not scale images but with 2x images it's ok. So why wouldn't you just serve everything 2x and avoid a headache of multiple images.
I'm cranky today.
Ian Gilman
@iangilman
May 12 2015 20:39
I often just use the 2x image, but then I'm probably being naughty
Of course why not skip the image entirely and go SVG?
:)

May 12 2015 20:40
haha i was thinking jpgs specifically
Ian Gilman
@iangilman
May 12 2015 20:41
Yeah, if it's big enough, it's worth doing multiple.
But for UI PNGs, I don't think there's a need
Bill Criswell
@crswll
May 12 2015 20:42
agreed
Ian Gilman
@iangilman
May 12 2015 20:42
On the other hand, normal res JPGs don't look too bad on an HDPI screen...assuming they are photographs...it's PNGs with sharp lines that look bad
Bill Criswell
@crswll
May 12 2015 20:43
haha, our designers always notice :(
Ian Gilman
@iangilman
May 12 2015 20:44
Fair enough :)
Still, I'd rather have a designer that notices than one that doesn't care
Bill Criswell
@crswll
May 12 2015 20:44
absolutely
i'd still love more options in deciding if i should be sending huge images.
