Fun analytics idea: use the zoom + pan events + view bounds + timers to record which areas were of the most interest to the users. Maybe generate a heatmap. Has this been done before?

@IllyaMoskvin I actually did it while I was still working at Microsoft, but I'm not aware of anyone else doing it, and that old code isn't open source...
The results were actually pretty cool!
I was able to build it entirely out of the standard logs the web server produces, since each tile that's served gets an entry in the logs... I built a heatmap based on which tiles were served most often
Of course you had to compensate for the fact that low resolution tiles cover the entire image
Anyway, when comparing with the actual image, it was pretty clear that people zoomed on the points of interest...

That's fantastic! (and I'm not surprised hah!) I might give it a shot, if that's alright.

... and of course if you do it based on events instead of the server logs you can get it in more or less real time
Please do! I'd love to see it, and I bet it would actually be of real interest to a number of the museums that use OSD!

Yes, I'm working on adding GA to three of our gallery interactives here at the IMA that use OSD, and this seemed like a neat idea.

For sure. The fact that it's visual makes it even better :)
