Why can't you drag an overlay?
I want to drag it then I could destroy it and recreate it so that Open Sea Dragon can manage it when it zooms etc

The use case of creating a selection on an image and then dragging the selection seems like a use case that should be supported. If it isn't how could I override it?

@patrickliechty if you need selection on an image there are several plugins for that
or you can write your own

yes
actully second one I’ve mentioned is for drawing/displaying annotations, but if you need non-rectangular selection you can use it as a base
