Has anyone had experience with annotating images + serializing annotations using OpenSeadragon? I was looking at Annotorious and Emigre--Annotorious seems to be quite buggy for some reason and Emigre only supports drawing freehand (no pre-set shapes/text annotations).
I was looking at projectmirador and their image annotations are quite nice but I'm not sure if it's possible to use their viewer without setting up an IIIF compatible image server (which I probably won't be able to do)
if mirador doesn't work out I'll probably try to implement pre-set polygons/text annotations with Emigre but I wanted to see if anyone knows of a possible plugin/solution first

Looks like you've already looked through http://openseadragon.github.io/#plugins ...that's all the stuff I'm aware of
...though someone here might have other things to point to!
As for the serialization, I think it's kind of up to you how/where you want to store them
Annotation certainly is something people are interested in, though... if you end up making something robust, I bet you'd have others interested in it

hmm thanks :) I'll probably start by modifying emigre and see how that goes.. if I find/make a good solution I'll definitely let you know

Cool. ...and maybe someone else will chime in here as well...

Sorry to hijack this—does anyone have any insights into why world.getItemCount() would return 0 for a world with a populated _items property?

@matthew-jack No, that seems odd! Unless it's a timing issue

ahh, that was it! I ran it again as a callback of an open event handler and it worked. Thanks a lot!

Cool, glad it was that simple :)
