    @/all I’ve taken a few passes through the paper. I think its getting close. We have to sort out a few things (like now to acknowledge other systems and artwork). Can we sort those out by the middle of next week?
    Niall Robinson
    @niallrobinson
    sorry just saw this
    artwork we can get meg on when we sketch out what we want. I think that Nature might also provide artwork editors so it might be worth not spending too much time sweating the small stuff with that.
    as for aknowledging other systems
    i think we've almost done that already
    "It is better to leave data where it is as much as possible, and move the computations to the data. This design has proved very effective in systems used by businesses, for instance Hadoop (Ref) which tend to offer a suite of opinionated data processing operations which are suitable for oft repeated operations. However, these systems have only been of limited use in scientific analysis (ref Shnase et al NASA?), largely due to the nature of scientific data processing, which is typically more ad hoc and complex. Science does not need a train, it needs an all terrain vehicle. "
    it might be prudent to expand this section a little and say what has been done and then say why pangeo is better
    rather than saying what's wrong with what has come before.
    i.e. we might want to just leave the really assertive bit unreferenced
    "Numerous bespoke big-data science gateways have been proposed using highly bespoke, and sometimes proprietary, solutions [need citations for this]"

    @rabernat/ @niallrobinson - took yet another pass at the paper today. I think its really close. I’d like you each to take one more pass through, then I’m going to pass it by a 3rd party for a proper proof read.
    Ryan Abernathey

    nice work Joe. I will try to go over again tomorrow. I remember feeling that the intro paragraphs had some inconsistencies, but couldn't see how to resolve them
