    Is there any chance that tonight's talk is going to be streamed?
    I really want to make it but am sick and don't want to spread the plague... :(
    mJordan
    @mjordancodes
    I don't believe we have the set up for live streaming. However, I believe @KAndersonUS will be there recording so you will be able to watch it later on youtube
    Randy Wressell
    @randy5235
    Will that be on the PDXNode you channel?
    mJordan
    @mjordancodes
    yep!

    @KAndersonUS
    @randy5235 I just sat down to edit the video with the hopes of it being published Monday. Keep an eye out on YouTube and Twitter! Live streaming would be great but @mjordancodes is correct - we don't have the equipment for it.

    @obensource @michellejl Would you be open to sending out a twitter blast to your followers about the Portland OWASP chapter meeting on JavaScript security? We have an awesome speaker coming in from San Francisco (Lewis Ardern) and room for ~120. Right now sitting at ~50 so plenty more space at New Relic. Here's the meetup link if you are open to it. https://www.meetup.com/OWASP-Portland-Chapter/events/259395373/

    Hey want to join gitter room for PDX NODE
    Mike McNeil
    @mikermcneil
    Hey y’all I’m mike McNeil, creator/BDFL of the Sails
    *framework. (Sorry apparently chops off newlines on mobile ☺️
    Anyway I’ll be in town on Aug 8 and planning to attend. Do we have a speaker yet🌐
    Mike McNeil
    @mikermcneil
    Sorry for the typos, apparently I’m bad at phones. If you want to hang out, talk Node or Sails or JS while I’m in town, PM me at twitter.com/mikermcneil (that texts my phone). It’d be great to connect with the Portland Node scene again- I haven’t been around since like 2012! (Lastly if you’re interested in contributing, there’s some big projects coming up as part of Sails v2 that I’m looking for brave folks to join rachaelshaw/fancydoilies in taking on. It’d be great to chat in person while we get the chance)
    Nic Guest-Jelley
    @nicrocs
    Hey Mike! I'll check on speakers for Aug 8 and get back to you. There may be some time for you to talk briefly about Sails even if we do have speakers lined up.
    Faddah Wolf
    @faddah
    yeah, we’re starting. this is our gitter lobby. marvel at it.

    Hi everyone! We are looking for a speaker for the October presentation night and want your ideas. It's nice to have something longer to go with the lightning talks. If there is anything or anyone from the wide world of Node (yourself included) that you would like to hear, lease let us know! Cool tricks, tutorials, new projects and applications, just something tricky you would like input on - float it here or message me!

    Hi All (and pdxnode organizing team) I notice the next two PDX Node Hack Nights are on Halloween night and Thanksgiving night respectively. Is there any chance these events might be moved? I'm interested to attend, but I can't make it on those days!
    Faddah Wolf
    @faddah
    We're having a bit of a small hiccup with the organizing team, so I'm cancelling both those hack nights as we also have no one to staff them. Will send out notices through Meetup.com. For the rest of you WE COULD REALLY USE FOLK WILLING TO STEP UP AND SPEAK ON NODE.JS. Can be a long 25 - 30 minute talk, can be a 5 - 10 minute "lightning talk." but we could really use the community support for speakers. thanx all.
    Also, the meet-up tomorrow night 10/10 at Alchemy is cancelled - lack of people stepping forward to do a talk. WE WILL BE BACK HOWEVER, NEVER FEAR!
    Faddah Wolf
    @faddah
    Please NOTE: tomorrow, Thursday, 10/10 PDX Node meet-up CANCELLED, Hack Nights on 10/31 & 11/28 cancelled due to holiday conflicts, BUT WE WILL RETURN ON 11/14 at Alchemy Code Lab.

    Re: OpenVINO - it appears to run on any PC-level operating system, specifically including the big 3 + Pi + more specialized FPGA hardware. While I have no idea about the career returns on the effort, the content of the nanodegree looks like the real deal, using well-known computer vision and ML libraries, familiarity with which would be valuable by itself. The only hurdle (for a Node.js group) is that the description mentions expecting "experience in Python or C++". Regardless, I think it's a fine idea for anyone wanting to specialize in this thoughtful area of software.

    Meeting notes are posted, with links to the pvp-battle game (coin game not found) and the Pi presentation: https://github.com/PDXNode/pdxnode/blob/master/archive/2019-dec/index.md . Additions/corrections/feedback are welcome! They make my subjective impression a little less so.

    @faddah
    hi all - an actual Node.JS/JavaScript question! if you wanted to check, within a JS project, WHAT VERSION of an NPM Package is installed, how would you do it (keep in mind, this is from within a Node.JS/JS project, NOT from the command line - i already know how to do this from the command line)? what i'm looking to do is set up a conditional to see what VERSION of a certain NPM package is installed, and if it is less than a certain version, import it one way, or if it's greater, import another way. any suggestions? is there an NPM package to handle this?
    Martin Berka
    @MBerka
    I do not know that the packages set any sort of property or environment variable at runtime, so it likely involves either reading the filesystem (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/29741373/check-package-version-at-runtime-in-nodejs, also has a front-end solution) or running CLI commands from the Node program and parsing the results.
    Faddah Wolf

    Busier with work, trying to convert the last bits of front-end to TypeScript and looking at webpack. Actually, anyone know of a webpack example compiling TypeScript into multiple js files servable by Express and exposing some of the functions for calling by the destination files? I got stuck with the name of the entrypoint appearing in the window object, but remaining undefined regardless of libraryExport / libraryTarget.

    Hello Folks,

    CASCADIAJS SEPT. 1 - 2 CONFERENCE DISCOUNT FOR PDX NODE MEMBES - USE BY MIDNIGHT JULY 24TH TO GET 15% OFF $129 TICKET PRICE

    We got an exciting email offer from friend of PDX Node Carter Rabasa, lead Organizer of CascadiaJS.

    CascadiaJS 2020, like other conferences in the midst of this Global Pandemic/Quarantine, has taken it's conference online this year, and it is happening Sept. 1 - 2, 2020 — see https://2020.cascadiajs.com.

    HOWEVER - we're a bit late in getting this out, to get 15% off the $129 price, you need to get your ticket order in by This Friday July 24th at Midnight Pacific Time. The Discount Code is: PDXNODE.

    From Carter —

    The deadline for folks to register and get a swag box delivered to them in time for the conference is this Friday, July 24.

    CascadiaJS is a conference for web developers by web developers that has historically taken place in different cities around the Pacific Northwest. This year's event is coming up Sept 1-2 and will be taking place online. The organizers are working hard to create the rare virtual event that is interactive, facilitates high-quality networking, and is legitimately fun!

    They are offering members of the PDXNode community a 15% discount on tickets. All you need to do is use the discount code PDXNODE when you buy your ticket.

    They are also running a Scholarship Program for folks that are under-represented in tech that provides discounted tickets and financial aid for people who need it.

    Both the Scholarship Program and the current round of ticket sales end on July 24th. You can learn more about the conference, see who's speaking, apply for a scholarship or purchase a ticket at:

    https://2020.cascadiajs.com

    So go forth and get your the tickets for this great, on-line JavaScript conference!!

    best,

    The PDX Node Organizing Team
