[rwoodnz] Does anyone know if anyone else has set up a <#C0456KK56|nodeconf> room on freenode (irc) already ?
[Andrei] I don't see it

[jladuval] Love the concept of standard
[jladuval] Removes all the debates surrounding style by just not letting you configure it
[patrickdavey] testing
[patrickdavey] is there anybody out there.
[nemo157] yes
[wulfsolter] Yo
[jonforest] Like the idea of standard, but the lack of semi-colons would bug me too much
[jonforest] I guess that makes me a semistandard kinda guy...

[edrobinson] Honestly, after reading the articles
[edrobinson] It seems super sensible
[edrobinson] ;[1,2,3].forEach(bar) was surprising, but it also makes sense

[aredridel] I generally use semicolons. But way more than I like semicolons, I like not ever arguing about whether to use them.
[edrobinson] Agreed
[nemo157] :+1: it's almost as pointless as arguing tabs vs spaces
[edrobinson] It's an opportunity to better understand JS imo
[aredridel] Yup.
[aredridel] I'm always tempted to rephrase "automatic semicolon insertion" as "automatic newline removal"
[jonforest] I certainly can't deny that arguing over standards is a pointless waste of life. Just pick one and let's use it is my opinion

[jladuval] Substack should for standard and call it substandard
[aredridel] Only problem I have with standard is that it naively enforces === over ==.
[aredridel] When they're really not interchangeable. And expressing != null in terms of === is a royal pain

[wulfsolter] ^ agreed. But it's a bigger pain when Jr. Dev blindly uses == everywhere and strange typecasting behaviour creeps in
[edrobinson] How is expressing != null in terms of === a pain?
[nemo157] yep, which is why standard has an exception specifically for == null
[edrobinson] Thanks

[joshua] today I'm exploring ideas for fair compensation for open source development at https://github.com/joshuavial/sustain - keen for any feedback on the idea.
