Does anyone know if its possible to resort the photos by their exif creation date?
I have imported all my images from the iCloud and the creation date is now from today and the photos are wrong order in the web interface :-/
also i would like to know if @damianmoore is back :) his last message is from end of november (congratz for your new born child :) )

Hi @smp86:matrix.org . There isn't a way to sort on a specific type of date. I will look into the import code though as it should be using the earlier date for this scenario. And yes I am back, thanks for the congrats. I'm hoping to catch up with things and get a release out this week.

From my perspective the timeline should be ordered by latest images first :D Time ranges would be pretty nice too, sometimes i only know that i made a picture in March 2021, but with thousands of images i take per year it would take very long to scroll down that far.
Also i noticed that only 10000 of my 16000 images in my test instance have been processed and imported. Some images have the same creation date like others and i saw that pull request: photonixapp/photonix#348 - I guess that maybe this could be a potential fix
Do you also have some other maintainers or are you doing the project entirely alone?

i might like to send some ideas as a PR, i'm just a little confused because some PRs have been open for more than 6 months. Surely you had other things todo :-)

Hi @smp86:matrix.org thanks for your interest. I agree there is work we need to do on the timeline view, the WIP ticket for this is here: photonixapp/photonix#8 .

Sorry to hear some photos didn't appear - if you could come up with a test case that reproduces the error (i.e. 2 photos you upload that always results in just one) that would be helpful. Please note that edits of a photo or photos taken of the same subject on the same camera are grouped together into just one photo in the timeline and you can view different "versions" in the info panel on the right.

I've worked through most of the PRs now (had some time off). There are others contributing individual features but most work has been by me so far. If you have ideas, please check the existing"Issues" on GitHub and submit them there first. It would be great to have your input.

Hey guys! Just came here to say that this project looks really promising. I'm about to import about 55k photos after testing it with.. 6 :) Let's see how far it goes! Cheers!

Just wrote a quick blog post to explain how development of Photonix is ramping back up here: https://photonix.org/blog/ramping-development-back-up/ . Thanks to everyone who contributed code and insights in the past few months.

Hey guys! Pretty nice project, trying it out right now :) Importing tons of photos, curious how will Photonix handle it :D However i found it could be awesome to implement keyboard shortcut to easily for example delete pics (so sorting stuff is not that long). What do you think about it? Would it be nice feature? I can try to implement it :)
    Damian Moore
    @damianmoore
Hi @martyet:matrix.org, good luck with the import. Yes I think it's a feature we'd like to have. We currently allow deletion by multiple section (holding Ctrl or long-pressing) and then via the "+" menu. It should be fairly easy to call this via shortcut key too. I think we would also want a recycling bin where deleted photos go before they are fully deleted after about a month.

    nice!
im still curious how the folders are re-structured, after importing. If thats even happening. However i found i got some videos among the folders i have been importing, is that real issue? Could be nice to at least implement garbage collector folder for found videos, to have it in one folder :D

Hey guys, is there any chance anyone experiences the same issue with not deleting pictures on storage, when user clicks on delete button to delete them?

@rohanJa Did you go through the onboarding setup screens when you first launch the webpage? It goes through creating a library etc. which you might not have.

ok i will check for that

Hello, I've finished the setup wizard and this happened "TypeError: a.environment is null"
    Same error on all browsers

Deleted and re-installed without doing the create user and library in the console and that worked

Adding a new user with "./manage.py create_user" shows the wizard again on the web and breaks the login the same way I've mentioned earlier :/

ok instead of using docker on windows, i installed ubuntu on a hyperv and did the docker-photonix install there. it works well.

Hi guys, does anyone here run Photonix without docker? I'm considering giving it a try, but not sure how much effort it will cost me.

not necessarily without docker. but i had problems with docker on windows...so i started up a new ubuntu and then rand photonix in the docker inside ubuntu. still docker, but not windows, and works better.
FOr photonix, is there a way to disable the square outlines on the photos identifying the objects and faces?

Hey, I'm currently on the search for a new software for organising my 150k photos with a decent AI detection. Photoprisms AI let me down and can't even handle to detect a zebra correctly... has anyone tried Photoprisms AI functionality and can tell me if Photonix is better in that regard?
Also, this might be a weird question, but since the AI can supposably detect human faces and tag them with names once it learned about them, migth this also be possible with fursuits (doing a lot of event photography with furries in it)

animal detection is something which digikam can do (quite good). With photonix my cat is constantly detected as dog :-)

One thing that would really help these various FOSS/self-hosted photo systems is if each one would untie itself from its own object recognition implementation and instead allow the user/admin to connect it to any object recognition implementation: chose its own one, or another locally installed free software one, or a connection to a proprietary one. That would let the user experiment, of course, which is nice; but much more importantly it would let the developers experiment and share their implementations, and so develop better with less effort. No longer would every photo system have to develop and ship its own.

That's an interesting idea. Have you checked if Photonix or any of them do this yet? i wonder if any of the non-free (Apple, Google Photos) etc options provide programmatic access to their recognition, or if it can be extracted - would guess not, it's their secret sauce, but we can hope :) It would be cool if that service was pluggable anyway - more options.

Hello, Can Photonix be used with an existing file structure of pictures (just maintains an index), or does it need to have its own copy?

Just started using Photonix and love it so far. Silly question, is there a way to have Photonix bake the object tagging info into the XMP keyword area or failing that is there somewhere in the postgres DB where the tagging data can be seen for an individual file?

Looks quite sophisticated. Tried to install it on Ubuntu 22.04LTS (Server). Only errors down the road when going the discribed way (especially the doing the Docker things). Is there a way to install it on plain Linux (VM)?

I also struggled, my main issue was that I had installed Docker as a snap, which caused numerous issues
it's better to install it by adding the Docker deb repository and installing it from there
but I'm also struggling with photonixapp because it installs correctly and everything but then I'm having HTTPS issues
(and I only need to run it locally, in my home network where I don't care about https...)

Quick question, is there a way to have the original aspect ratio of the images preserved in the tile view? i.e.pad the image to fit in the square rather than crop it?
