Something about Mono 4.8 seems to prevent Eto projects from running. I just spun up the MS VS for Mac preview and whilst the project builds without complaint, it won’t run. Likewise under Xamarin Studio - downgrading to Mono 4.6, the build completes and runs.

Re. Eto itself, I’d love more frequent interim releases on Mac. I think the automatic build system only delivers Windows builds, doesn’t it?

@philstopford: I haven't used the VS for Mac preview yet nor Mono 4.8.. Until it's on stable there's no point chasing phantom bugs
I've been investigating options to compile the Xamarin.Mac version now that it is opensource, but it still does require additional steps to be installed for things to compile properly in CI

Yeah - I just wanted to take it for a spin, just out of curiosity. I am seriously hoping the threading issues in Mono get resolved at some point. The performance currently is awful
So I jump on new versions more out of hope than sanity.

Yeah I've used myget releases. But I'm not currently using that for my active branch in an attempt to keep the... Entry level for new Devs low.

yup.. just rebranded Xamarin Studio afaict, though nice to hear that it will still be actively developed
I'm sure there'll be breaking changes again.. le sigh

Is Ms code being pushed upstream to xamarin and mono? Or just staying with the vs Mac stuff.
I did run into a few problems with xamarin on windows, and mono on Linux. Hopefully I'll be able to work around them and they won't test my patience too much.

I dunno if they will be pushing code from VS on Mac. My guess is yes given MS' current love for things open source, but who knows what they will keep to themselves.
Xamarin Studio on windows is a trainwreck, I don't even bother with it.
what problems are you having with mono on Linux?

Stepping through debugging/break points stopped at lines in a different and non sensical order than in vs was one big one that weirded me out when attempting to figure out a bug once.

hm, odd; I've never really had a big problem with that, though I am more used to how monodevelop/Xamarin Studio does things than Visual Studio these days.
