Hi! I'll be notified when someone writes here

@onli
hello @MHketbi
I saw your github issue report
Mubarak Harran Alketbi
@MHketbi
hello
is having internal server error always a result of bad pipe?
nvm, i was not linking to the OUT point, would it be possible to make the OUT point moveable? and also having zoom in/out feature
onli
@onli
zoom in and out won't be possible sadly, but you can zoom in and out with your browser a bit before it breaks

Hi- Trying to combine a few reddit rss feeds into one. I created the pipe without issue, but only one of the reddit feeds works. For the rest I get:
code<html>
-<body>
-<parsererror style="display: block; white-space: pre; border: 2px solid #c77; padding: 0 1em 0 1em; margin: 1em; background-color: #fdd; color: black">
-<h3>
This page contains the following errors:
</h3>
-<div style="font-family:monospace;font-size:12px">
error on line 1 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document
</div>
-<h3>
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
</h3>
</parsererror>
</body>
</html>code

https://www.reddit.com/r/TimeTravelersNet.rss is an example of a feed that fails in the pipe, but works if you put it in a browser.
Any ideas?

@onli
Hi @SlubDesign_twitter. Reddit is sadly likely to fail because of their rate limiting. I got a report before that our slowed down requests are still too fast for the site.
What should work is to add a layer that does the caching better, like rss-bridge is supposed to do. To test that and if it works to integrate it as middleware into Pipes is on my todo list, for this week (hopefully!)
onli
@onli
in the meantime you could use a public rss bridge like https://rss-bridge.cheredeprince.net/ (I don't know the person hosting that one though) to give a more stable reddit feed, if that helps?

@SlubDesign_twitter
Thanks for the tip. I look forward to the update. I forgot how much I missed Yahoo Pipes - and you've improved the process for 21st Century.
Mubarak Harran Alketbi
@MHketbi
@onli i have feedback regarding your business model
we want to pay for more than the free package, but the Regular and Pro models are expensive and provide more than what we ask for (50 pipes - 100 pipes)
it feels like there can be better price points, the PRO version feels like it is marketed toward projects instead of individuals
if i had a choice i would pay 3$ per month for 15 pipes and the other PRO features.
now i know the service has managed to get a lot more features worked and implemented and the developers are working hard
Mubarak Harran Alketbi
@MHketbi
or maybe something like 1 year subscription that offers % discount, 1 month 5$, 1 year 40$ (33% discount)
now my suggestions might not be ideal i dont know how much it costs to run your servers and how much time you put into developing the service
but in the end 20$ and 80$ per month is too steep
onli
@onli
hey @MHketbi, I hear you. Always hard to get that right, but a smaller plan might really be a good idea. You are right, the Pro plan is targeted for projects that want the support. I will think this over!
onli
@onli
@SlubDesign_twitter Pipes just got an update that improves how it reacts when servers reply with a 429 header. In my tests that fixed reddit - though pipes with a lot of reddit feeds might still be problematic, it would be great if you could test again the one you wanted to get to work.
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Hmmm. Just tried it again. I have 5 Reddit feeds, and only 1 of them works. When I go through rss-bridge, they all work.
onli
@onli
Ok, then this is not working yet. Strange. Thanks for testing, I will give this another try.
onli
@onli
@SlubDesign_twitter Could you try your testpipe again? The next step would be to integrate rss-bridge with a reddit block, but my test worked now, and avoiding the special block would be nice :)
onli
@onli
Hm, today it's unstable again. It should be better now, but not reliable when fetching 5 reddit feed. RSS-Bridge it is!
onli
@onli
@SlubDesign_twitter Now it ought to work, via the new Reddit block. It is in the integration submenu. The block takes one subreddit name, or you can enter multiple subredditsand separate them by comma to create a multi feed, subreddit1,subreddit2 for example. The block calls RSS-bridge, so we get their caching - in my tests this worked stable also with multiple reddit feeds in one pipe. I hope it stays like that.
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Hey- nice work. Seems to be working. My pipe looks nice and streamlined now also.
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Hi- now that I got the easy stuff figured out. Mind pointing me in the right direction for creating a feed from a site? For example... is there a way to create a simple feed that shows nothing but the title and description for each video on https://vimeo.com/tag:dogs/sort:date/format:detail ? I tried Extract, but that add a title "Extracted Content". Ideally, I could generate a feed which shows every video with the tag dogs, so it will always update.
onli
@onli
@SlubDesign_twitter Extract the site multiple times to get all the info needed to use the "build feed" block. There is an example with a different site, https://www.pipes.digital/pipe/61qWENyX
That way you get a proper feed with the item title you took from the source site
onli
@onli
Oh, but I just noticed that instead of duplicating the download block you will have to use multiple downloads blocks. That's something that changed later. https://www.pipes.digital/pipe/E9Dmp1Nj is a better example :)
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Thanks @onli - that's exactly what I needed. Works great.
onli
@onli
Yeah! :)
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Hi again- Another one I couldn't figure out... the feed I'm using generated links that look like /31431414214 without the name of the site. How does one add something like https://vimeo.com before the link so that it will function correctly?
onli
@onli
Hi! :) Use the replace block to replace the / with a url. Like in https://www.pipes.digital/editor/3qRg3m98
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Once again you are awesome. In my case, turned out I needed to replace <a href="/ I have one more request (sorry to keep harassing you I'm learning a lot) - extracting images. Do you have an example of downloading a page and extracting images? I'm guessing I'm close, but can't figure it out.
onli
@onli
Hey, no worries. So image extraction is just removing everything else from the HTML code. Did you try the images block already? That's what it does, it filters for img
And then puts each one into its own rss feed item
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter

Great. I see how the image block work. So, once stripped from the content, I need to Combine back into the Content of Build Feed, correct?

Also, I've been getting an internal server error when I try to see my pipe output. Is it just me?

onli
@onli
doesn't seem to be down to me. Is the pipe connected to the output and the last block is working fine?
You can send the image block result back to a build feed block, but it is also a valid RSS feed already, so if you are okay with the title etc it can also be sued like that as pipe output
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Is there a trick to using the Duplicate module? It won't let me connect anything to the left side.
onli
@onli
Nothing or just not a download block?
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Ah, you're right. It works with a Feed, but not a Download. Also, I have graphic interface issues, when I scroll down within a pipe, many of blocks lose their text input boxes. I have a new computer with a 4K monitor.
onli
@onli
Oh, in which browser is that?
Slub Design
@SlubDesign_twitter
Seems to be much worse in Chrome and Edge (which I rarely use, but needed to test). It requires having a pipe that is larger than fits in the window. And I scroll or move down. If you have a way for me to send you a screenshot, I would.
onli
@onli
maybe via mail? You can send it to support@pipes.digital,
it will reach me that way ;)
