Odd... I get the
"Uncaught (in promise) Error: This browser does not support webGL. Try using the canvas renderer"
error when I set { view: canvas } instead of document.body.appendChild( app.view );
How could that be?

I use new PIXI.Application( { ... } );
Pixi v 4.8.1
I just pass in a canvas element that is in the DOM before the script
  app = new PIXI.Application( $( canvas ).width(), $( canvas ).height(), {
    backgroundColor: 0x1099bb,
    antialias: true,
    forceCanvas: false,
    view: canvas
  } );
