@tkimnguyen
i’d say winter is quite claustrophobic… you have to spend much time indoors, there is much less daylight (sun comes up 8 am, sets 4 pm), you have to spend minutes putting on or taking off extra layers of clothing and boots and gloves and hat, and when it gets very cold I worry about car breakdowns or the furnace of our house maybe not working
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
that is sad..but i believe it has almost become a part of your routine..
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
what would be examples of things you’d study in theoretical CS ?
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
subjects like theory of compuatation, automata theory, algorithms, software testing etc...
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
true, you do get used to it, but it’s not great having it be unpleasant weather 4+ months of the year :) Mind you, if you dress correctly you can enjoy the outdoors: skiing (alpine or cross country), ice skating, snowshoeing, and in Oshkosh with Lake Winnebago there are crazy people who sail boats on long skates and they go 100 kph
and then there are snowmobiles
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
wow..that sounds cool
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
i’ve been out of academic CS for too long… but nowadays i would be tempted to work with quantum computers
a wide open field!
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
true..but there are very few universities in India that do quality work in quantum computers
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
ah well that’s why you’d have to come to the US … or there are some Canadians doing that too
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
true that..
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
i say that (about wide open field) because my opinion is that there wouldn’t seem to be many stones left unturned in traditional CS
all right i am going to go do something else and wait for Alexander to ping …
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
well I am setting up right now
so we could start
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
from my perspective the report looks good especially if you can make those additions
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
I just merged both pull requests, so that we could look at the current master branch
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
ok i’m in
or is that not the right one
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
no
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
haha
@pavithirakc will you join?
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
i am joining..i just made some updates to the report :)
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
hi @pavithirakc - Cris Ewing is reminding us that student submissions are due in less than 24 hours :) Looking over https://github.com/plone/ploneorg.addonlisting/wiki/Final-Submission-Report---GSoC-2017 I think screen shots in the ploneorg.releasesecurityinfo section would be good
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
added them :)
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
cool
@pavithirakc have you seen my second mail?
about the section about your learnings
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
@pavithirakc screen shots look good :)
@pavithirakc from my perspective, the only thing still needed is a couple of sentences explaining the relationship between the content types in the ploneorg.releasesecurityinfo work
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
@pavithirakc have you sucessfully submitted the final report?
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
hi @pavithirakc - looking at the https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/help/work-product guidelines, " The target of the link should contain a short description of what work was done, what code got merged, what code didn't get merged, and what's left to do." ... I don't think we have the last 2 items covered. Although all your code was merged, it would be great to say so explicitly. If you know of things left to do, please include that too (and perhaps @loechel can add to it or suggest particular items)
and 'The best examples of this we saw in past years were "final reports" that made it easy to find the code, summarized the current state of the project, and enumerated challenges and learnings.' @pavithirakc you should mention the challenges you faced and the things you learned... you faced many and you learned many things! I know it's sometimes hard to introspect but it would be good to list some of these, if only to give you more credit for all that you've accomplished
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
Sorry..I saw the mail and the messages late. @loechel @tkimnguyen I successfully submitted the final evaluation and I have updated the report with the suggestions :)
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
:thumbsup:
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
Hi @tkimnguyen @loechel !! I got my mid-sem exam schedule today. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the conference as the dates are overlapping.
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
@pavithirakc sad to hear,
have good luck at your exams
T. Kim Nguyen
@tkimnguyen
bah who needs exams! BARCELONA! :)
:(
we will have to find another time to meet in person - perhaps the next conference or Plone Open Garden, which is held in Italy in April
Pavithira KC
@pavithirakc
thanks @loechel . Sad thing is they don't conduct reexams for mid-sems/end-sems :( @tkimnguyen
Alexander Loechel
@loechel
@pavithirakc hi, are you online?
I will do a short lightning talk about your GSoC Project later today
Might you have time to join in via hangout around 17:20 GTM+2
