    the rest of the stack gets a little tangled... most things wuold involve updating cats, but circe depends on cats and we can't update circe because they stopped releasing 2.11 artifacts
    so until we can drop 2.11, it's a bit of a mess
    Erik LaBianca
    @easel
    yeah spark being stuck on 2.11 is a real drag. have you considered just forking circe into the repo?
    ugh. coursier stopped releasing for 2.11 as well.

    Oh :disappointed:
    One thing we've discussed is just making the server always be 2.12 or even 2.13, and only cross-building the kernel stuff. Since it's (99% of the time) a separate process, that would probably be OK and would untangle the deps a bit.
    But, that's a bit of a project, and it's hard to find time. Help is welcome though 🙂
    (circe is only used for the config file parsing, which only needs to be done by the server in theory)

    @easel
    Not having to support 2.11 would definitely make it easier to keep up to date. Or, just deprecate scala 2.11 entirely =p
    jeremyrsmith
    @jeremyrsmith
    Dropping 2.11 altogther isn't an option for us just yet (or indeed for most people, probably)
    Hopefully someday 😄

    I don't want to promise too much but I'm not thrilled with my notebook options for scala+spark so I can justify at least a little poking at the source code since I need to update a bunch of my spark stack.
    Getting wierd typer errors trying to use coursier 2.0.3 on the 2.12 build as well. So much for an easy check =/

    Is it possible to share code across notebooks without packaging that code as a maven dependency ?

    @pixie79
    Hi, I am having an issue where i edited a notebook in Intelij but now i can not see the contents in Polynote. Even though it looks like it is all still there.
    All i see is a blank note
    any ideas ?
    I have the same issue with notebooks others are trying to use of mine that i shared via git?
    Mark Olliver
    @pixie79
    fixed it - looks like i corrupted the cell
    out if interest is there an easy way to include one notebook in another?
    I am thinking that way i can have one that sets up common vars / secrets

    @antonkulaga

    We don’t really build or test Polynote against Spark 3 so there might be some sort of binary incompatibility. There’s an open issue about Spark 3.0 support polynote/polynote#926 it seems to work for some people but they are probably doing relatively trivial things / sticking to accidentally compatible APIs. Not sure if anyone here has had more luck using Spark 3

    I am using it with Spark3, so far it goes well on one-worker cluster, not sure how things will go if I will scale. Usually most of the spark bugs appear when you add more than one worker

    Also, when do you plan to release a new version?
    I remember you were working on fixing nasty tabs editing bug and adding new display for collections
    jonathanindig
    @jonathanindig
    We will probably release @jeremyrsmith ’s new inline Plot editor / viz changes ( polynote/polynote#994 ) in the coming weeks
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    please, make sure that when switching between tabs nothing is edited in tabs that are not visible, I spoiled many notebooks because of such bugs
    jonathanindig
    @jonathanindig
    This is the first I’m hearing about this bug. Did you make an issue for it?
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    I think it is there for ages
    makes using tabs almost impossible
    I will check if I made it
    jonathanindig
    @jonathanindig
    Please do! If you can describe the issue (maybe a screen recording showing the problem?) and help figure out how to reproduce that would be great; I’ve never run into that (and as far as I know, neither have any of our users who use Polynote with tabs every day)
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    do you use Firefox as your browser?
    jonathanindig
    @jonathanindig
    Ah! No, we’re only really supporting Chrome right now.
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    maybe that is why you have not seen it yet
    In firefox just open several tabs, try to copy paste from one tab to another, switch tabs again, after several rounds of switching you will notice that it insertes text in one of the tabs that are not visible

    https://github.com/polynote/polynote/blob/master/docs/01-installation.md#prerequisites
    Unfortunately we don’t currently have time to test all the possible variants of OS, browser, etc. but we would welcome any help or PRs improving our cross-browser support!
    I’d recommend using Chrome with Polynote for the time being :)
    But please do create an issue for this bug with Firefox so we can track it, thanks!
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    @jonathanindig well, I think it works pretty well in Firefox, so if the tabs problem will be solved I believe it is ok to consider Firefox working
    I cannot give 100% working instruction but usually withing several switches between tabs with editing cells you get into it
    jonathanindig
    @jonathanindig

    It’s great that Polynote seems to sometimes work in Firefox! While I’d love it if it worked perfectly, as you’ve found here (and I think probably in polynote/polynote#974), it doesn’t work in all cases and we just don’t have the bandwidth to test with Firefox right now.

    I’d highly recommend you use Chrome for a much more stable experience with Polynote.

    Thanks for the reporting the issue though!

    @JD557
    FWIW, I also had that tab problem in the past (also using firefox)
    where tabs are not the browser tabs, but the notebook tabs
    (I think, it's been a while since I had that problem)
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    @JD557 for me the bug is still there (at least with latest release). I think if tabs and deletion issues will be fixed to consider Firefox working even if you do not have capacity to test other stuff
    jeremyrsmith
    @jeremyrsmith
    @antonkulaga this is about having two different tabs open on the same notebook? And they don't play nicely with each other?
    Anton Kulaga
    @antonkulaga
    @jeremyrsmith two when you are constantly switching between them and copy-pasting some code
    usually, what happens is that you switched to another tab but the text focus is still in one of the cells of the hidden tab, so when you type it is typing there
