@mrocklin
Changing the password to pydata for the future
Aron Ahmadia
@ahmadia
did you all just reboot the cluster?
I had a notebook die on me with proxy errors.
Matthew Rocklin
@mrocklin
I know that Ben was changing things recently. I wouldn't be surprised
Aron Ahmadia
@ahmadia
Alright, things I've encountered so far:
"Perviously" misspell on first notebook
On second notebook the last cell has a reference to df['x'], but that's not a valid field name.
df['open'] would be fine.
Matthew Rocklin
@mrocklin
Should I push fixes for these or are you planning to push commits?
Aron Ahmadia
@ahmadia
I'll hot-edit fixes in.
And them I'm heading to bed :)
Matthew Rocklin
@mrocklin
:)
Aron Ahmadia
@ahmadia
ahh, nevermind on the second one.
I think it's deliberately left as 'x' so you don't accidentally crash the Python session.
I'm not sure, I'll leave that one alone.
I wonder if the hdf5 library is now threadsafe, it is not as fragile as it was in the past.
Matthew Rocklin
@mrocklin
I would find that surprising, but delightful
Benjamin Zaitlen
@quasiben
Added jupyterlab and crick

@mrocklin
Thanks @quasiben !
I'm going to turn in for the night (this is way more relaxed than last year :))

can u please increase the terminal font size @mrocklin ?

@mjahanshahi
Hi guys. I tried to follow the instructions on the GitHub for installation and I think the version of conda has changed commands because the create environment did not work.
Benjamin Zaitlen
@quasiben
can you post the error ?
Maryam
@mjahanshahi
ah sorry @quasiben Realized my mistake was not creating the environment in the parallel folder!
Joseph Goldbeck
@joegoldbeck
has anyone resolved getting pyspark to run on Mac?
I was getting a message to install java command line, which i got past, but now "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/apache/spark/launcher/Main : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0", so not much better XD
Benjamin Zaitlen
@quasiben
Is JRE_HOME set?
Joseph Goldbeck
@joegoldbeck
aha
nope
Sangram Gaikwad
@sangramga
Is there a docker container available for building, developing and contributing to Pandas library?

Hi. First time using gitter. What is this parallel-tutorial chat about?
Vishesh Mangla
@XtremeGood
hey I 'm doing some mathematical calculations but its taking too much time
plz help parallelize the code
Scott Sievert
@stsievert
What’s the code like? Does it have big data or is it simulations/lots of computation (or both)?
Vishesh Mangla
@XtremeGood
well it has a sparse matrices
128*128
4 of them
then it has to compute f(t, k) which is a combination of 2 lambdas and is a column vector of 128 entries
for N =128 th case as you will see in the code it almost takes 3-4 hrs even on colab
I used sparse matrices for fast computations but its going down in heat eqn only with linear case when my target is to solve nonlinear which is further big
Scott Sievert
@stsievert
What’s the bottleneck?
Scott Sievert
@stsievert
I’ve looked at the notebook. It looks like the “fun” function that’s passed to solve_ivp needs to be profiled and accelerated first
I’d look at vectorizing that function (and also why is inv(self.A) called every time? It looks like that value is static through time
