QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> they are still the same, I was just adding github links too (and removing the email contact form) (re @Sander: Impressed by your ambitions in offering communication options 😄👍)
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> I bridge the different chats with matterbridge.
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> I haven't had to used Slack for two years.. 😅 (re @diomas: For me slack client alone eats as much resources as all other messengers do together :))

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <Sander> Haha lucky you ;)
Did you consider CapRover for server/hosting management? It was recommended to me as a 'PaaS'. Soon I will need to restructure some manual nginx-proxy, docker based servers and this might be interesting. You might have come across it as well\?

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> I did above (re @patbek: I build the webpage in a GitHub Action, create a docker image with an nginx webserver, push it to docker hub, from there my server automatically fetches it via watchtower and updates my container with it. the container is served and TLS terminated via traefik (also gets TLS Certs from Let's encrypt)... 😅😂)
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> haven't used CapRover yet
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> you can also one-click deploy stuff with portainer, but I use docker-compose for everything

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <granskog> Quick question: How does QON cope with large databases? Being flat-file based is already limiting to whatever the filesystem can do, but let's ignore that. I'm thinking QON itself. The listing in the UI seems to include everything in memory. Is that correct?
How does QON cope with let's say 250,000 notes?
I'm trying to consolidate everything into one knowledge base and I haven't found an application that's a. performant and b. not web/js/ based.
Cheers

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <imabug> just out of curiosity, 250,000 notes?
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <granskog> The guy who made this has a nice text on that: https://github.com/zadam/trilium/wiki/Patterns-of-personal-knowledge-base#scalability
These numbers are all pretty low if you consider creating a big knowledge base that you use forever.
We used real wikis before, but now I just want something offline, performant, with markdown. The only useful web apps are pretty much mediawiki (wikipedia) and to a lesser extent dokuwiki (flatfiles). And neither support proper markdown, which is how I write almost everything. (re @imabug: just out of curiosity, 250,000 notes?)

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <Sander> I guess you tested Trilium? What is your opinion? Main downside that it's not performant enough? (re @granskog: The guy who made this has a nice text on that: https://github.com/zadam/trilium/wiki/Patterns-of-personal-knowledge-base#scalability

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <granskog> I tried creating 1000 top level nodes before it slowed down, it's electron based, it loads all of them into memory. But other than that, it's by far the most insane project I've tried. It has amazing features, but: it uses RTF instead of MD (can import/export MD though), and it also isn't made for lots of top level nodes. (re @Sander: I guess you tested Trilium? What is your opinion? Main downside that it's not performant enough?)
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> Notes are read into an in-memory sqlite database... I don't know if you will be happy with 250k files read every time. 😁 (re @granskog: Quick question: How does QON cope with large databases? QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> A couple 1000 notes surely are ok...
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <andycyca> (I believe this also has to do with the previous discussion of note-based and wiki-based software)

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <imabug> so @granskog, why don't you test it and tell us here how was your experience with so many notes? I'm curious to know the result
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <patbek> me too 😁
matrixbot
@matrixbot
QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <granskog> I cannot do that, as I haven't started consolidating yet. I'm trying to find a solution that will last until doomsday, and then do the painstaking work of transferring. It's all mixed formats on various platforms.
One way would be generating random text files I suppose. (re @imabug: so @granskog, why don't you test it and tell us here how was your experience with so many notes? I'm curious to know the result)

QOwnNotes Bot [telegram] <bendem> You probably want just markdown files on disk and a text editor. That's portable, fast and it works everywhere.
Something like https://github.com/patleeman/VSNotes (re @granskog: I cannot do that, as I haven't started consolidating yet. I'm trying to find a solution that will last until doomsday, and then do the painstaking work of transferring. It's all mixed formats on various platforms.

kiwi_87 on Freenode howdy. does qownnotes have a way to have indents rendered in text? it looks like a tab-indent is used for escaping all formatting for a block of text
kiwi_87 on Freenode and extra spaces aren't rendered at all
matrixbot
@matrixbot
kiwi_87 on Freenode i'm seeing a workaround of copy-pasting   a bunch but thats ugly :(

pbek on Freenode kiwi_87, are you talking about the preview?

pbek on Freenode In markdown a lot of whitespaces are ignored.
