Does the Voltaire feel a bit stuffy to anyone else?

It's not a good font for reading (too thin). No plans using it in the docs pages. But is good font for headers and titles, i.e. home page, blog.
Also breaks the monotony of sans fonts. I find Open Sans, Droid Sans and Roboto boring after a few projects. So mainstream.

I remember the good old days of geocities, DHTML, and that pinnacle of fonts comic sans :laughing:

I've ported the hello world tutorial from learn.ractivejs.org
does that seem like a viable format for the rest of the tutorials?
if it is, I'll go ahead and get the rest moved over with updates and a few expansions
I'd like to push 0.9 sometime in the next week, and docs is the last thing holding it back
I think with the tutorials moved over and the API docs updated, we can go with ractive.js.org as the main site

I liked the old one a bit more.
This one looks more complicated UI
Since you need to know how PG works
That scroll on the steps. D:
But something like that for Docs is great.

some of the api docs have examples that use the playground

I'd say the old layout was much better

Apr 30 2017 21:11
it definitely is on desktop

only my own experience to go on
is it passable though?
Juan C. Andreu

Apr 30 2017 21:12
But probably not much people code on the phone
it is ok
Maybe just "tab" the steps
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:12
I usually evaluate stuff on my phone when I run across it
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:13
with the new one there are only three "tabs" instead of four yet it looks like there's no space for anything
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:14
would a more desktop friendly layout for the playground help that?
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:14
I think so
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:14
having html in its own pane for desktop
and the tabs in a pane to the right
and output and console in their own panes instead of tabs
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:15
I also evaluate stuff on mobile but I definitely wouldn't use playground on mobile
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:15
it actually works pretty well on mobile
Juan C. Andreu
@andreujuanc
Apr 30 2017 21:15
It does!
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:15
it's a bit friendlier than jsfiddle, which was my goal
mkdocs is a bit limiting too
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:17
not saying it doesn't, just that ux on desktop should have higher priority imho :smile:
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:17
that's fair :smile:
is this a viable path though, or do I need to see if I can figure out the learn site?
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:21
would it be possible to split docs/playground vertically rather than horizontally?
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:22
probably
the docs don't respond particularly well to < 1024 though
there's a really weird medium area
it's passable on mobile and desktop widths
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:23
oh yeah, 768 - 1200 ?
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:24
that's the one
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:25
it probably wouldn't be a problem
the top navbar could stay with 100% width
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 21:26
I don't suppose the media queries would take effect when just moving the docs div side by side with the playground div
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 21:33
nope but just hiding the left navbar and moving docs to the left seems to work well
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 22:14
on min-width: 1200px, the html will be in its own pane on the left and the script, css, and options move to the right
is that a bit better?
I think splitting the console and output automatically in the same way might be a bit distracting
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 22:19
yep but I still think the biggest problem is that you only see a very small part of the text
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 22:21
from the tutorial or in the output?
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 22:22
tutorial
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
Apr 30 2017 22:26
would 50/50 or 45/55 as opposed to the current 60/40 get close enough?
Martin Kolárik
@MartinKolarik
Apr 30 2017 22:49
maybe it'd be a bit better, but...
I find the second much better on desktop
although it's true it might be a little harder to get it to work properly in all cases
Chris Reeves
@evs-chris
