So when you say "fragment", it's every node in the template tree, yes? (including not-really-DOM-but-look-like-nodes like sections, mustaches etc.)

a fragment is basically a vdom node

it may or may not contain other vdom nodes
instance.fragment happens to be the root for instance
fragments and other vdom nodes have a kinda weird relationship - any of the view items, like element, sections, etc must be owned by a fragment
and each may also own 0 or more fragments
