Hello @mtancoigne:matrix.org , Thank you! but how I can do that exactly?
Here is the repo. It's included by default in Rails apps, you only have to add a byebug statement somewhere in your code and when the statement is reached you get the hand on the process.
Seif Eddine Slimene
@mtancoigne:matrix.org Thanks! Can I add byebug inside a gem file?, I have code in a specific gem that I want to debug!
for sure, you can use it in any gem/ruby file, don't forget to require it if it's not auto-loaded.
Seif Eddine Slimene
@mtancoigne:matrix.org Thanks but I can't show the content of variable how can I do this?
I did byebug list= self
Because I want to show the value of "self"
once the process stopped, just type in the variable name in the console. There are some reserved names tho (c, n, just type h to display the byebug help).
list is reserved by byebug ;)

Can I send a screenshot here?
Hi guys! I have a small question about update hooks. I have the use case that model A references several other models B, C and so on. It goes from 1:1, via 1:n up to n:m cardinality. Now, I would like to have a callback that I implement in model A which tells me that an attribute in e.g. model B changed. I would prefer to implement those hooks in the model A to keep everything related to this in one place where it is maintainable. Is there any option to do this with rails-native callbacks? I only found solutions for adding and removing entities inside a relation but not if one of the existing ones changes. May you help me out? Thank you!
hi all, have problem to have access to my env variables from react (rails 6) any pointers documentations ?. Tried dotenv.js / with a require('dotenv').config() in my config/webpacker/development file. But does not work

Hi guys! I'm trying to understand the magic of the preview mailer.
Can anybody give me a hint?
How this

url_for(controller: "mailers", action: "preview", path: "#{preview.preview_name}/#{email}")

becomes this ?

Routes are registered somehow but I cannot find how/where.

Thank you in advance! 🙂

hi all, I'm struggling to find a solution for an ActionDispatch::Cookies::CookieOverflow error, raised when the app is trying to store too much data inside a session via the ransack memory gem.
this exception happens in ActionDispatch land, so it's not rescuable via rescue_from, and no, changing the session store to ActiveRecord just for this is not viable
I could write some mitigation logic, trying to guess a maximum size for ransack memory, but it would largely depend on what else is in the session and I'd prefer to write code to handle the exception (clearing session data and redirecting the user back to the root)
has anybody got any hint about what to do in such a situation?
Hello, I'm struggling to integrate the lighthouse with Rails.

Hi everyone... webpacker's v6 upgrade guide says: "Remove overlapping dependencies from your package.json and rails/webpacker's package.json." ... so I removed those, and I see webpacker's package.json specifies "@babel/plugin-proposal-class-properties": "^7.14.5", ... yet when I run webpack, now I get Error: Cannot find module '@babel/plugin-proposal-class-properties'

Does anyone know how to host subfolders on heroku?
Like I don't want to deploy the whole git repo, just a sub folder
Daniel Wilkowski
@JordanShackelford You could make a read-only repository on github, that's a copy of a folder from your real repository, and host that on Heroku.

Hi, I have a question here, I am trying to upgrade from 6.1.6 to 7.0.0.alpha1 & hitting a migration issue. NoMethodError: undefined method `key?' for nil:NilClass - is that familiar to someone here? Thanks in advance.
Lucas M.R.
Hi, does anyone know if there is a package in python where I can create models similar to what Ruby on rails does with Rails Generator? How:
$ rails generate Controller mycontroller
@zipho while researching something else, i kept seeing problems with early rails 7, and the answer was to install rails 7.0.3. the way to be safe about making such a jump would be to arrive here for the gemhttps://rubygems.org/gems/rails/versions/7.0.3
@zipho arrive here for the changelog from where you are to 7.0.3 .. see if your code is affected, if so, make needed change(s) : https://github.com/rails/rails/releases .. hope that helps
Zipho Mashologu
thanks @kathyonu - i had some redundant migration script that was tripping me.
Marcos Koby
rails question here. There is an association I need to modify, so that child model needs to remain after a parent model gets deleted.
How might I generate a migration so that in postrgresql, a foreign_key changes to 'ON DELETE SET NULL' ?

@klepsydra: Hello and welcome !

You can specify it on the relation declaration, in the parent model: has_many :<children>, dependent: :nullify

the foreign key field should be nullable at the database level for this to work
Marcos Koby

Thanks @mtancoigne:matrix.org . I wrote a migration.rb file by hand:

 def change
    remove_foreign_key :babies, :parents

    change_column :babies, :parent_id, :uuid, null: true

    add_foreign_key "babies", "parents", on_delete: :nullify

I couldn't figure out if rails generate migration had some options to do this from a shell command.

I don't know either; I always write migrations by hand
