Any salesforce XP here? I need some insight what problem this PAAS provider really solves.

I really have no clue what that company is about. Ok, I've heard about heroku but that's pretty all I know

Would it be viable to build a custom web app on top of it? Something, that has not really to do with a CRM necessarily?
Everest Liu

Feb 02 2015 21:54
now i’m confused, were you just asking what salesforce is? lol, because then when you brought up heroku, i’m thinking there is not really any relation between the two
Michael Jenny

Other than salesforce has acquired it.
I think they have integrated it in their services.
not sure though./
Everest Liu
@evliu
Feb 02 2015 21:55
oh i didn’t know that, haha, yea, heroku can act as a free server of sorts, they will serve your small node-js app
salesforce is hugely analytics and managing customers
and all the business behind that

salesforce could be used, for instance, to store reaction orders, and handle them there, as an example of something you COULD do with salesforce

(BTW We're working on an ecommerce website with a friend and we're trying reaction for this. Hopefully we will be able to help you guys :) )

Ok, see: I have a customer who thinks I can reuse some building blocks of the salesforces like user management for an otherwise totally unrelated piece of software. I'm not sure this makes sense..

@adlenafane :thumbsup:
@prinzdezibel you probably could - and that’s how I’ve used it before -> as a centralized user management, workflow for a variety of other systems -> when you need to bring it all together
but, I’d say, it’s overkill for most, and most implementation (on the smaller scale) that I’ve seen have barely been used the way it was imagined

Like: With one of the salesforce services, I can build a reaction commerce app, but have database schemata, user management, security, authorization and more administered by salesforce. Does this make sense? I think not.
Aaron Judd
@aaronjudd
Feb 02 2015 21:59
you could. but does it make sense? I don’t think so, it’s overkill unless it’s a company already using salesforce. certainly not from scratch.
(probably not db schema, but some connectors for the rest certainly would be do-able)

And hey: Would that stuff work with the language I want to use? I have not interest in learning something new like APEX or other Vendor-lock-in stuff.

I think they have restful api for most everything, and also a pretty big eco-system -probably some packages in their world that could provide agnostic connectors (the “AppExchange” marketplace)

Thank you guys, this gives me a slightly clearer picture what this is about and how to engage with my customer in this question.

is there something specific i need to do to add a shipping provider with the current template shipping package?
i’m gettin’ Failed to add shipping provider. Error: Method not found [404] banner when i just enter random stuff in the service code and public label

Feb 02 2015 23:55
@evliu I don’t think so, I’ll test it again. You might want to test with the latest development version of the shipping package, it should have fixtures in it
Everest Liu
@evliu
Feb 02 2015 23:56
oh, i didn’t clone the shipping package, just added it, that makes sense

Feb 02 2015 23:57
I’m thinking I’ll publish all the latest packages tomorrow.. just finishing up some new docker stuff, so those packages should all get updated soon
