Hey there, under Template I see Product Detail Simple Layout and Product Detail Two Column Layout - How can I use the latter?

Login as Admin and change from settings like below
blob
that is while editing the product

thanks
is this new?

okay
I have a question

Ok

What is the supposed way to add a new Product, which has more options than the currently available variants - Would a template be suitable?
like, select a color, and then 10 different checkboxes what you would like to be included or not
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 08:54
I’m not sure I understand the question. When you say “more than the currently available variants” what does that mean?
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 08:56
As far as I understand, the way you can configure a product is quite limited at the moment. I need to create a procut with several possible options, but without manually creating every possible combination as an olwn product
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 08:57
How is it limited? You can have an unlimited level of product/variant/options
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 08:58
another huge issue will be, that the price will be calculated by height and width the user specifies. I'm still not sure where to dig into the code to create that and keep it in line with rest of the way reaction works
well, you can create a produt with a variant
but not a variant of the variant, etc?
maybe i overlooked something?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 08:59
You can have unlimited nested levels of options/variants
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:00
is this new? or specified in the template and just not used in the default template?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:00
that’s all you can make in the current admin, but nothing about the schema/data keeps you from nesting products
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:00
cool, im starting to get excited :D
about the individual price thing, how could this work?
and thanks fot your help
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:01
Have you asked me about this before?
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:01
not you personally, no
wrote about it in the chat some time ago
and there was someone else appareantly looking for the same thing
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:03
Yeah, I think you would need to create a new product type. Probably that would involve touching some core code. But it’s something we have talked about architecturally
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:04
maybe it would be easier to make a call to the server, so the product gets created at the time , and then put into the shopping cart?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:04
Currently we have product types of simple and variant
basically the prodiuct type would allow you to do the branching
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:06
ok, I'll have to play around with that to udnerstand its capabilities
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:07
well you could create a product type of option that can be added to another product at shop time
just throwing out some ideas
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:07
okay, what would I achieve by doing that?
sorry if i might sound stupid
would this still result in a single product that is shown in the shopping cart in the iend?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:09
right, the customer would essentially be creating a new “product"
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:09
and could i use this option to maybe just alter the price?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:09
where product = a unique combination of product + options
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:09
so i wouldn't have to recreate the whole product with every value
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:09
yeah, you would create a new product type where the price is the sum of all options
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:10
hmm that makes sense
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:10
you would need some way of establishing which options are available for which products though
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:10
yeah, still one of my main concerns
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:10
one way or the other you will need to have some sort of UI for configuring available options
Janus Reith
@janus-reith
Mar 16 2017 09:10
somebody would have to alter these things later without knowledge of the codwe
ok
yeah, can't circumvent that
But i wonder if i could still achieve the nice integrity it has now
where it can e edited in the frontend
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Mar 16 2017 09:12
if there are other people interested you might be able to consolidate your efforts
it’s not something on our roadmap right now, but I am sure that other people will be interested. I worked on sometihing similar when we made a configurator for a major computer company

@vigyano I am going to look at that today. Been sort of pinned down with the release and other stuff we are trying to get out the door.

Totally understand Brent as you are busy with release. I am just trying to migrate existing product website to reaction but "sold out" issue is a blocker for importing them. Whenever you get a chance please let me know, I appreciate that.
