@nygava What sort of help are you looking for?

@zenweasel I tried to read all the docs, but I can't figure out how to add a Custom Text Input from the buyer for my products. (I want my buyers be able to enter a text for each proudct they buy) and I want that text be saved in the database for each order
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 01:59
Where do you want them to enter the text?
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:08
when they add it to the card,
cart*
or in the product page, doesnt matter
@zenweasel I just want them to tell me the words to print on the card.

I think what you would want to do is create a new checkout step, have them input the data there and save it. Changing the checkout process is covered in the Customization Guide: https://docs.reactioncommerce.com/reaction-docs/master/plugin-workflow-7
You would probably also want to extend the Cart schema (which will also extend the Order schema)
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:11
how do I do that ?
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:11
is there any chance you could help me do the whole thing?
all I want is one text input, nothing more
we haven't started our shop yet, just finished installing reaction commerce.

If by help you mean do the coding for you; no, but I could put you in touch with one of our development partners.

I think this would be a good example plugin
I tried to follow the example plugin doc, but it is not compelte, it doent tell you which files to create, if you folllow it exactly step by step, it will leave you in the dark in the middle of it
if you could help us create this simple plugin, we could help back by creating a end to end documentation
from prespective of a new user, how to do one plugin from zero to full

I’m sure that other people would find it helpful and I would hope that you would share it with the Open Source community, but we just aren’t in the business of doing custom development.
As you can see from this chat history we provides tons of support to developers doing their customizations, but we do draw the line at actually writing the code for them.

@zenweasel thats fair, but could we at least fix the docs ? we tried to follow each step here, https://docs.reactioncommerce.com/reaction-docs/master/plugin-creating-2 but that leaves you with nothing, the codes in that doc doesnt match the code of example in github
all I really want to do, is be able to finish one example
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel

When you say “leaves you with nothing” what do you mean?
To complete the plugin you do need to run through the entire guide, not just one chapter.

@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:24
I mean like if you start from fresh and you exactly type step by step, then it is missing a lot of steps, like it tells you create three folders client server and a file register.js but in next step, it has bunch of code without telling you where to put (missing file names) and then if you finish putting all the code, it wont be a real plugin. it is mostly psudo codes and not complete example, some Magics are missing .
and I think chapter 2 is missing a lot of details and you get stuck and wont be able to proceed
like it talks more about how and why it uses specific things, but I wish it would just finish telling you exactly what to do for the example plugin to finish it

Yeah, I can see what you are saying there. It looks like something got lost in an update. But I do say the main goal there is to help you understand the WHY behind what’s going on. It would be impossible for us to touch on every possible thing people might want to change.
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:33
sure, could you just give us one plugin tutorial, that will work if you follow every step ? just one plugin that adds anything to the schema
I completely undrestand what you are saying !
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 02:34
Right, but every day I get people saying “how come you don’t do X in the example-plugins, everybody needs to do X”.
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:35
sure, all I want is someone go through the current tutorial for the plugin, and run it one by one and see if it will actually work
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 02:35
But I do hear you, that’s how I would see it if I was in your shoes. I want to see examples
People actually do that every day
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:36
if you follow the docs and click on all the hyperlinks, you will see a lot of them are broken
from the tutorial
I had to guess a lot of the hyperlinks
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 02:36
Yeah, unfortunately that’s an error with ReDoc that I don’t have any control over
well, I will tell you that some time this week I will run through the tutorial from scratch and make sure that doing what it says actually creates the example-plugin. I used to do that fairly often but we have got really busy.
nygava
@nygava
Jun 05 2017 02:38
sweet. I would be happy to go through it again and be the ginneapig
all I want is a working reaction with one simple plugin I can add
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 02:39
Right, Makes sense. I have had a lot of big plans for this, to make it more like creating a real store, but I have to choose between that and adding actual features or fixing bugs.

hi, im new to reaction and robomongo and kinda wondering why there are all Indexes in the Packages Document doubled? https://postimg.org/image/g2qt8tpa1/
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 05:30
The default data includes two stores
There’s an entry for each store
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:31
oh okay... why is that? didnt recognize this
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 05:32
Just to demonstrate that the schema supports having multiple shops. You can delete one of the Shops if you wish
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:35
is there any usage/documentation of this yet?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 05:35
Yeah, it’s our biggest and most active project which we call Marketplace. There is a whole separate Gitter channel available for discussing it.
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:36
k, thanks ill look into it
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:44
its this fork here right https://github.com/ScyDev/reaction/ ?
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 05:46
No. That’s an old implementation. It’s on the marketplace branch.
It’s very much still a WIP but a lot of work has been done and one marketplace has already launched using essentially
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:48
oh cool... yeah its really hidden! can i just switch the branch without damaging the single vendor shop db?
and which marketplace is using it?
terrelltechsup
@terrelltechsup
Jun 05 2017 05:49
mmm i think i had to do a reset when I switched
@w9n I actually don’t know if you need to reset or not
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:51
thanks didnt know that either, ill have a look into that by time.

Here’s the article about the marketplace that launched: https://blog.reactioncommerce.com/meet-lorenzo-campanis-ceo-of-artlimes/

@w9n
Jun 05 2017 05:57
very weird... i only get the mobile version displayed on chrome for the shop, firefox works
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 05:59
not sure what that means
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:13
is there anything cms related i overlook? its marked next on the roadmap but i cant find anything but a forum post
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:14
Yeah, that’s all there is right now. It’s on the next roadmap but it’s still at the architecture stage.
terrelltechsup
@terrelltechsup
Jun 05 2017 06:16
i already put my vote in for something along these lines: https://getuikit.com/pro
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:19
i dont think a non open source solution is a good idea... ill try to make https://github.com/ramusus/reaction-flat-pages/ run then
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:19
Yh, I remember that. We are talking initally about a Drupal integration
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:20
oh just the pro version link
terrelltechsup
@terrelltechsup
Jun 05 2017 06:20
uikit itself is open source
but I was referring to how pro handles page building
it is simply awesome
something to take ideas from
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:22
we have a relationship with Drupal. Their founder sits on our Board of Directors. I don’t think we want to get into trying to reinvent the wheel with creating a CMS
It would be great it we had something like the flat-pages package was trying to do as well. Just something quick and simple if you just have a few pages you want to publish.
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:23
would also be unsufficent without sql
terrelltechsup
@terrelltechsup
Jun 05 2017 06:23
oh i agree, uikit pro runs on top of wordpress and joomla
i dont doubt there is something similar out there for drupal
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:24
The Drupal integration will probably just be the first of many CMS integrations. We usually try to do a couple of these at the same time so we have the right level of abstraction
terrelltechsup
@terrelltechsup
Jun 05 2017 06:25
just curious... how do you forsee that working from a high level
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:28
that sounds for a good reasoning, is there any particular reason why flat-pages is gotten forgetten/unusable? i think it would still be usefull aside a cms
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:30
I don’t think that package was ever finished tbh. It was trying to emulate the django-flat-pages package but at the time our architecture was changing so much I don’t think he ever got it work correctly.
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:32
thats good to know... i was about to check it out as my first frontend project comming from .net/backend
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:34
most people are just adding their static pages to their plugins
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 06:36
but then no not programmer would be able to change the simplest text in production...
i mean more money for us but i dont think people comming from woocommerce would be ammused
Brent Hoover
@zenweasel
Jun 05 2017 06:39
Yeah, totally true. That’s why it’s our #2 priority right behind Marketplace. Those are pretty much our #1 and #2 most requested features.

@zenweasel @spencern - I created custom product detail template/layout, is there a way to set that default for all new products?
at this moment, I have to use the UI dropdown to change for all new products.
Robin Winkelewski
@w9n
Jun 05 2017 09:32
where is actually the password saved? its neither in the users or Accounts document
nevermind found it in users->services->password
Spencer Norman
@spencern
Jun 05 2017 14:57
@vigyano I'm not sure, I think @kieckhafer might know
Erik Kieckhafer
@kieckhafer
Jun 05 2017 19:38
Hey @vigyano , there is currently no way to set a default for all the products, you’ll need to change it for each one.
