@GalenIvanov do you have an AV that could be flagging it? Have you tried launching the gui from a command-line to see if any output appears? Does console-mode red --cli work?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@dander I tried the console mode - it started by "Compiling Red console...", but finished with the following error:
Runtime Error 1: access violation at: 00000000h
@dander about the AV - only Windows Defender
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@GalenIvanov you have a 22 November build. Today is 11th December. A fix red/red@f33c7cd for issue related to yours was pushed into master branch 12 days ago. Do the math and download the latest build.
spTorin
@spTorin
If red code called without arguments in cli: length? system/options/args in compile mode equal none, in interpretator mode equal 0. May be better leave only one answer?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@9214 Thanks, I downloaded the file from your link. Still no GUI console is loaded
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@GalenIvanov is console-cfg.red file empty? Have you tried to wipe out ProgramData/Red folder?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@dockimbel :point_up: can we silently swap around stable build with a bit fresher one? IIRC this is the third time this issue comes up.
Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
@9214 Does the newest build fix that issue? Does it happen on Win 8 only?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@dockimbel, @Palaing certainly reported it on W10.
Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
Are we sure it's not related to Defender causing the issue?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
Usually there appears at least some kind of indication about quarantined file.
Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
Then the newest version would not help, right?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@9214 I deleted completely ProgramData/Red folder and tried again. This time it didn't create a console-cfg.red. Not any indication from Defender.
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@GalenIvanov still no GUI console?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@9214 Stil no GUI console
Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
@GalenIvanov Can you disable Defender momentarily to see if it's related?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
There's also <user>\AppData\Roaming\Red.
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@dockimbel yes, I'll do it.
Phryxe
@Phryxe
Path to cfg C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Red\Red-Console\console-cfg.red (in Win 7). Maybe it only exist if you change Options/settings...
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@Phryxe well, you can't change settings if you can't even launch a console.
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@dockimbel Disbaling Defender didn't solve the problem - ProgramData/Redfolder is created with crush-2018-12-11-14111.dlland gui-console-2018-12-11-14111.exe in it, there's no console-cfg.red
Still no GUI console
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@GalenIvanov okay, how about creating one? Both in /Roaming/Red/Red-Console and in ProgramData/Red.
Red [

Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
@GalenIvanov What happens if you double-clik that gui-console executable?
Palaing
@Palaing
@GalenIvanov I had the exact same problem on W10 for a while. Removed AVG, emptied quarantine, whitelisted \ProgramData\Red , disabled Defender etc. : gui-console versions posterior to 0.63 would not launch. It suddenly worked again with some recent version, and now back to normal. Thought it was due to console-cfg.red but not sure.
Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
%console-gui.red file should not be required, if not present, the console will launch with default settings.
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@dockimbel Yes, I clearly see it creates one for Red-063 if missing.
No visible activity if I double-click the GUI-console executable
Nenad Rakocevic
@dockimbel
Are you certain Defender is fully disabled?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
Fully disabling WD is an art of and on itself :smirk:
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@9214 Yes, I got a message "Windows Defender is shut down and doesn't monitor your computer" (or something - my Win 8 is configured in Bulgarian language)
You should also disable the "Cloud-delivered protection".
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@dockimbel Is there such option in Windows Defender for Win 8?
I think I turned off all that can be turned off
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@GalenIvanov does your over Win 8 machine (on which Red works) has the same WD version, at least in theory?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
I'll check tonight, it's at home (it's WIn 8.1 though)
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
Any luck with config files creation?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@9214 I tried with a copy of the config file from the working Red-063 - no success; I also copied your source into it - still no success
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@GalenIvanov in both folders?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
@9214 I renamed the folder for Red-063. It works
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
Which one? Roaming?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
ProgramData
@9214 I meant Red-063 works
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
To clarify - 0.6.4 version works if you rename the folder to Red-063?
GalenIvanov
@GalenIvanov
Sorry, I wasn't clear - Red-063 (the older release) works, the folder name in ProgramData was just Red - I made a copy of the working Red-063 to have an archive of working Red on my machine
@9214 Hmm, I just checked - I don't have a Red folder in AppData\Roaming
