@planetsizecpu I need to test the code on Windows. There are some differences with macOS in rendering
François Jouen
@ldci
@planetsizecpu some tests: python bpnn.py : 12 ms vs. red 15 ms

We are so close, even without optimizing the compiler. Let's give them the time they need.

Is there a way to get mouse coordinates? Am I missing it in the guides somewhere?

Re Wiki page "[LINKS] GUI Programming" under "Red IDE projects from the community": should one not add the Rededitor for Windows made by Ungaretti? This link

@ericguedespinto
@planetsizecpu you can also add sbcount as a field in the view layout. It tells you the current iteration

@ericguedespinto You're right, I just commented sbcount/text for allow it to run quickly without much care.

WISH: Image coordinate systems reboot

@moliad
is it planned to fix the problem where text doesn't follow the transform matrix in Draw dialect... its an annoying problem.
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@moliad you should bump the respective issue on Github so it will get a priority before 0.6.4 release.
This one I believe: red/red#3225
Max
@moliad
how do I bump the importance on an issue? by posting a metoo comment, or is there a way to vote for them somewhere?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@moliad just leave a comment and escalate teh drama :wink:

try to write privately to qtxie. Most probably not a good solution to bother the Team that way, but in the past, it kind of worked and I can imagine few bugs might get fixed that way ....
Boleslav Březovský
@rebolek
that way we will never get 0.6.4 ;-)
Petr Krenzelok
@pekr
We are not hunting for new features, but fixes, or so is my understanding? :-)
But well, I am not pushing for anything, so ....

0.6.4 is frozen at this point. Just need to get the announcement out. While the team may ask for direct contact at times, we're really overloaded with messages already. That also sometimes means responding on multiple channels, because others don't know what happens in private conversations. If you tag someone in a message, that makes those things more visible to them, which is a balance.

It can also help to explain "annoying" vs "affecting real work we're trying to do.", and what that work is, which may lead to a focus on related fixes.

Thanks for doing that in the comments @moliad. Lots of good comments there already, so much R&D has been done. Clearly not a quick and easy fix.

@moliad
although a simple problem, it's a show stopper for us right now. we are working on a port of the liquid dataflow architecture for Red (which should become public around next year). For the node graph editor its a problem, as you can see in the following video
Gregg Irwin
@greggirwin
Thanks for the example.

I can see some tests being done using Direct 2d. Which Windows versions still require GDI / GDI+? Am I correct, that Red supports Win7 and newer and WinXP legacy support was dropped?
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@pekr IIRC XP and Wine are not officially supported.
BeardPower
@BeardPower
@pekr Yes, there is a D2D branch.
Boleslav Březovský
@rebolek
@moliad It look very nice! (ignoring the bug)

@olivier_lp_twitter
Hi everyone, I'm a new one on red, i'm using to scripting with rebol2, so very ambitious with red (waiting hard for the 0.7x)), i'm testing VID, happily surprising at the moment but hoping some evolutions, I wish rotary and toggle buttons will be added, button appearance (color or image) will be possible, multi-selection option for text-list and transparancy for text by default (it works if bacdrop is set with a color but not with an image which is working as in rebol even it's not documented)! effect option will be nice too as in rebol
LP Olivier
@olivier_lp_twitter
it seems not to be possible to desactivate the auto-sync in the 0.6.4 version system/view/auto-sync?: false does nothing, in 0.6.3 it works
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@olivier_lp_twitter Red View engine is limited only to native widgets that are supported across platforms, thereas Rebol used custom graphical engine and relied on Antigrain library.
If anyone else can confirm that, you should report auto-sync? issue.
hiiamboris
@hiiamboris
@olivier_lp_twitter autosync works for me in CLI console and when compiled. I gather GUI console relies on the setting and resets it, so it's probably what you experience and will unlikely be changed in near future.
LP Olivier
@olivier_lp_twitter
@9214 thanx for you return, but not sure what i'm whishing is not compatible with your pupose : rotary and toggle are juste declined button. For the rest i think it should be supported. but the idea is quite fair, specially with cross compilation system
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@olivier_lp_twitter not sure what you mean by "declined button". And we have radio buttons.
LP Olivier
@olivier_lp_twitter
@9214 radio button can replace toggle but it's less nice, toggle button is commonly used on many device as androids one! i mean by declined button the fact that is not very complicated to make a style from button to simulate the rebol toggle and rotary buttons
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214

is not very complicated to make a style from button to simulate the rebol toggle and rotary buttons

So what stops you from creating such style?

By toggle you mean checkbox?
Petr Krenzelok
@pekr
Toggle was a special button type in R2. Not sure it came from Amiga, but button was either pressed, or not pressed, like some real-life state buttons on some panels, etc.
Not sure if draw sufficiently supports all possible event types, but I think it does. Should not be difficult to mimic R2 VID like custom buttons / styles.
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
Draw doesn't support any events, you're confusing it with View.
Petr Krenzelok
@pekr
Yes, my remark was not precisely correct and could confuse others. My idea was - go grab R2 code for a button and port it to View. IIRC, Red was supposed to support custom widget creation with some helpers, but imo it could be done even today. I will see if I find some time next week to experiment a bit.
There are some advantages / disadvantages to both aproaches. With custom styles, you will easily miss on OS metrics, skinning, etc. OTOH with OS only widgets, you will hardly find more complex / comound styles as db grids, with stuff like sortable / resizable / freezable columns and if so, those are not going to be available consistently in a cross-platform manner ....
LP Olivier
@olivier_lp_twitter
@9214 not checkbox but toogle one , as you have for activate/desactivate a service on android phone or others devices, in R2 the design is like a button on/off! I can do it as a style, the only thing is the event gestion which has to be redone for each use (or not maybe with the on-create event)
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
Checkbox is functionally equivalent to toggle button, so I don't understand what your problem is.
Petr Krenzelok
@pekr
@olivier_lp_twitter Not fluent with Android GUI, so maybe it hase one. But Windows does not. So we will hardly get one in a cross-platform manner anyway. Such missing styles will have to be emulated there.
He has no problem, he just wants a toggle style, not a check-box :-)
