in 2019 around June or July may be full io based on guesstimate.

@TheOnlyArtz
oof, that will take some time

@TheOnlyArtz
So what can I do with Red? in general.
Semseddin Moldibi
@endo64
@TheOnlyArtz Many things, like UIs, parsing, DSLs. Question is what do you want to do? :)
Check /code repo, @toomasv gists, https://gist.github.com/toomasv and other useful stuff from wiki pages.

@TheOnlyArtz depends on what you are capable of, in general.

@9214
@viayuve on what metrics your highly speculative estimate is based upon, if I may ask?
Gregg Irwin
@greggirwin

@TheOnlyArtz if you read through the entries at red-lang.org, you can see a lot of examples. We have basic I/O, which lets you do a lot, but low level (full I/O) is slated for 0.7.0, as was said. We'd love to estimate delivery dates, but have to roll with the punches, which makes that nearly impossible. As we're still Alpha, Red is great for experimenting, learning, and thinking in new ways, but stable enough for a lot of real work too. 0.6.4 will make the GC official, but automated builds have it already, which makes a lot of things easier to not worry about. :^)

The best thing to do is try it out, and see if you like it. It's different in many ways, and not for everyone.

Is there an updated Vim plugin for Red? I have an old one for Rebol.

@greggirwin
I don't believe so.

f: func [d /local sum] [foreach digit d [print digit]]
>> f "17"
1
7
>> g: func [d /local sum] [sum: 0 foreach digit d [sum: sum + to-integer digit]]
>> g "17"
== 104
why does not g "17" return 8?
ne1uno
@ne1uno
@lpvm to-integer to-string digit or to-integer digit - 48 since digit is char!
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
@ne1uno There's an implicit conversion in f then?
ne1uno
@ne1uno
try print [type? digit]
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
thanks!

@ne1uno
I guess it's not quite like splitting a string

Regarding view documentation, I'd like to know the logic on how to use the documentation to build an example. For example, regarding drop-list. https://doc.red-lang.org/en/view.html#_drop_list
As facets, there are type, data, selected.
how can I use these? view [ size 400x300 d: drop-list ["1"]] can't seem to show 1 when the drop-list is clicked.
Toomas Vooglaid
@toomasv
Put block of strings in data- these appear in drop-list. on-select and on-change actors fire on selection of new item. E.g. view [drop-list data [“one” “two” “three”] on-change [print [face/selected pic face/data face/selected]]]
On phone now, somewhat restricted.
pick
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
The list ["one" "two" "three"] doesn't show up
if it works fine for you, is it maybe my version fault? I'm using the 17th of November build.
Toomas Vooglaid
@toomasv
Should work with any version. Did you copy paste it?
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
yes, corrected the pic to pick. This is the code I tried: view [drop-list data [“one” “two” “three”] on-change [print [face/selected pic face/data face/selected]]]
Toomas Vooglaid
@toomasv
I tried, and with pick it works
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
is your build from the 17th of November?
Toomas Vooglaid
@toomasv
8th Nov
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
wold like to try that build but can't find it
Vladimir Vasilyev
@9214
@lpvm “one” is not the same as "one".

You know, I have to use a remote windows session, as I'm in Linux, and the clipboard seems to modify the each " to that symbol when I paste it in Windows session.

I feel your pain 🐧
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
GUI is a new thing to me @toomasv . Hope to learn some tricks from you and your examples I've seen.
@rebolek Yes , the other pain is that I could not neither compile nor cross-compile to FreeBSD. Would like to parse some PF logs to update my spam table. $ red_linux -t FreeBSD -c -r pf_log.red returns:
Target: FreeBSD
Compiling to native code...
*** Loading Error: file access error: %platform/freebsd.reds

It seems wrong quotes slipped in from my phone
Boleslav Březovský
@rebolek
@lpvm There are no active FreeBSD users AFAIK, so bug reports will be very appreciated. One thing is doing whole GUI subsystem and another thing is fixing few bugs that prevent Red from running on/compiling for FreeBSD, as it's supported platform.
Luis Vale Mendes
@lpvm
No problem. It also happened to me for some Linux conf file as I copy pasted a line from a site and the initramfs files could not start. The worst part is that one can loose a lot of time going after these errors.
Boleslav Březovský
@rebolek
I may try to install FreeBSD VM and check the build.
