Cool, cool. Well, I’m off to sleep. I’ll be back online tomorrow night folks. Thanks for everything and let’s keep the discussion going. :sparkles: :clap:

Have a look at this when you get a chance — I collected some of my thoughts on how much user info really needs to be collected. Would love to run this past some mobile developers to see what they think about implementation.

@simlrh
@anseljh That would be ideal in terms of privacy. It's a trade off against reliability of delivery though (on iOS at least) as you can't guarantee the app will ever be allowed to fetch data in the background, it won't do so when low on battery, etc. It also makes smartphones a requirement, perhaps @rek2_twitter has data on what proportion of the target audience uses iOS/android/dumbphones
Relaid / PaseLaVoz
@rek2_twitter
@simlrh it's hard to say but I wouldn't expect it to be far off the general market share which I believe is around 25% and getting smaller everyday.
@simlrh For android/iOS, the proportion (of those who click on links we may provide in the SMS) it's about 2:1 respectively.

Yo, creating an impromptu Slack channel if anyone is interested: alertingpeople.slack.com @/all
@pfarnach is setting up channels. I figured this would be good for communicating between sub-groups

@simlrh @rek2_twitter Right. I've been trying to ask around for data on smartphone use, and have been told it's pretty close to universal. But I was a little skeptical of that. Would love to know more, and will bring it up when I talk to more orgs. I also have some thoughts on how to enhance privacy for the SMS use-case (to the extent possible), will write that up later.

@rek2_twitter
@anseljh sounds interesting, looking forward to seeing what you have in mind.

@arghgr
this doesn't solve the "sms providers can hand over their info to the feds whenever" problem, but if we've got an API for the raids and are concerned about storing phone numbers centrally, we could hook it up to a twitter account (or have multiple area-specific accounts) and provide a step-by-step guide for people to use IFTTT to send texts or something

@celsom3 I reached out today over Twitter. I'm with the Michigan group and wanted offer support. We could identify folks to translate content into Arabic and possibly help with user testing.

Hi there. I have a functioning SMS system. Users can send an SMS to register, submit RAID information, and receive broadcast alerts. Authorized users can send broadcast alerts. I build it to start using in Milwaukee, but haven't gone live. Can you add me to the Slack channel? adonahue@donahuegomez.com
lol, so used to capitalizing RAID, mean ICE raids though.

Hi there, I'm volunteering with a Washington state organization that wants to build a raid alert system, obviously people here are already doing that, could I join you on your slack channel? alxdark@gmail.com. Thanks!

Hi @alxdark_twitter, lets chat privately. Due to racist trolls, im being more careful as to who we invite to the slack.

@celsom3 totally understandable. Not sure how to do a 1:1 like Slack though...

Hi all, I'm a web development student in LA who has previously volunteered for immigrants rights causes and worked for a civil rights atty - I'm soon to be learning react.js and I'd love to help out any way I can (and when I'm able to!)

Hey everyone I’m new
Looking forward to contributing as much as I can and I agree with @brandones , the project on github doe seem pretty quiet. Is it still active?
Stephen Orsini
@stephenorsini

Hello folks - this application will continue to be developed. Thank you @shiaoshin @brandones and @aushakov95 - and to everyone else interested in contributing. I do not have too much info today - but next tuesday I will be meeting with some folks to discuss how to progress this application.

For those of you that are not aware - I'm sad to report that our dear friend and founder of RedadAlertas - @celsom3 - passed, suddenly in an auto accident last month. His widow is helping to progress his work - and I will report back after the meeting.

Thank you all, again - for your interest and support.

Hey all. Is this project still active? Is most activity happening on the Slack?
Jose A. Lopez
@jlopez08
Hello @stephenorsini @OSP123 is this project still active, especially in light of the renewed ICE raid efforts under the current presidential administration? I am a product/UX designer that would love to help with continuing to help improve the Redad Alertas app. Best ways to reach me are through my LinkedIn here or my email at contact.jlopez31@gmail.com. I look forward to helping out this effort!

@arghgr
@jlopez08 hi jose! i'm going to email you since we actually do need some design help right now. the project is still being developed, but we're still working on the beta for testing by a small group of rapid response coordinators.
for anyone else reading this right now, we're also currently looking for people with experience in mobile development, especially if you have experience in security and privacy, to help with getting the beta ready.
