Hi! Is it possible to use this extension for remote development? Specifically I wanted to use this https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/remote/remote-overview with the full features of the Java language support pack (intellisense, refactoring, debugging, etc)
Fred Bricon
@fbricon
@dfabu_twitter I actually don't know, but you can ask the MSFT people over at https://gitter.im/Microsoft/vscode-java-debug

will do!

Hello vscode-java developer ,How to use shortcut keys to find the implementation of methods under Java interface
PinGu
@pingu8007
Hi, just wondering does vscode-java support showing access modifier in outline view? A colleague used to using Eclipse says he can't find those modifier indicator.
I can't believe this feature had never been mentioned before.
Remy Suen
@rcjsuen
@pingu8007 When you say access modifiers you mean public and protected, right?
PinGu
@pingu8007
@rcjsuen Yes. I was expecting there would be some difference between a public method and private method, but I can't find it. (or I just didn't configure it correctly?)
Remy Suen
@rcjsuen
@pingu8007 I'm not sure that is present in the LSP
PinGu
@pingu8007
@rcjsuen Thanks. It's looks like we can't having this feature in near future, so sorry to hear that.

I am working on a java project that uses bazel which it looks like vscode-java does not support. However, I do want to use the formatter that is part of vscode-java. Is there a way to disable the syntax errors and import errors in vscode-java, so that I can continue to use the java code formatter? Or is there a way to get it to work with bazel?
jbrandli
@jbrandli
@dfabu_twitter yes i use the extension with remote all the time

good morning, i'm working with maven in VS Code, and having trouble with it listing my project under 'Maven Projects' on the left
would this be a decent place to ask? or is there a better chat for maven stuff
Fred Bricon
@fbricon
The Maven support is contributed by Microsoft, not sure if their devs are here
@ace510 you can still ask, we'll see if we can be helpful
else you should open a ticket at https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-maven/issues
ace510
@ace510
@fbricon i'm thinking raising an issue would make sense, because I just generated a blank maven project and it is doing the same thing
Fred Bricon

any errors in the vscode-java logs?

woooo! i'm a big dummy, turns out I had some bad listings in my workspace config that kept maven from working properly

I've got a multi-root workspace with a root folder that's a Maven project building a react app ( no java code, but a Maven POM that builds the react app ), but the rest of the folders are legit . How can I exclude the
Snjeza
@snjeza
@shawmanz32na You can use: "java.import.maven.enabled": false

I have created two java files. Whenever I run the code, I get an error saying, can not find the main class. Although, there is a main method inside one of the class.

Can you move a java package beneath another package and automatically update the package declarations in the impacted sources?
Kevin Shaw
@shawmanz32na
@snjeza Thanks for the reply a few weeks ago. I have the "java.import.maven.enabled":false setting configured in the folder's settings.json (there's the user settings, then the workspace settings, then the folder settings for each root in the multi-root workspace), but I still see messages when I launch that VS Code is building this particular folder. Does the vscode-java extension honor the folder-specific settings in a multi-root workspace?
Kevin Shaw
@shawmanz32na
@snjeza That did the trick, although a bit clunky, and not clearly documented. Should I open an issue?
Snjeza
@snjeza
@shawmanz32na yes, please

Running Spring boot application via launch.json prints classpath and exits.
Weird error. Has anybody else seen similar issue?

@mkkhedawat Could you change the VS Code user setting to "java.debug.settings.console": "internalConsole", and try again?

Hi. I normally open a whole directory with vscode, but I don't want the Java extension to be enabled on certain paths (ie /var/**) . is there a way to do this?
Or whitelist dirs that the extension can be enabled (ie /home/me/projects/**)
Jinbo Wang
@testforstephen
@azam try the user setting
    "java.import.exclusions": [
        "**/node_modules/**",
        "**/.metadata/**",
        "**/archetype-resources/**",
        "**/META-INF/maven/**"

Hi, could anyone help me using eclipse formatter in vscode? I understand that language support for java extension can do this but I couldn't make it working
azam
@azam
@testforstephen Didn't create the .project etc files when I put the dir in the exclusion list, so it looks like it is working for me. Thanks!

Since yesterday (October 1st) after VS-Code updated the Red-Hat Java-Language Support Package to v0.50.0 I get the error: "Java 8 or more recent is required to run. Please download and install a recent JDK" although adoptopenjdk-11 is installed and operative.

Thanks @testforstephen , Worked. Had found this infamous issue as pinned in debugger extension.
