hey, is there somehow I can put the config.json generated on Dashboard to the self build image without write it to sdcard, copy it in, read it to .img? preferably while build the .resinos-img?

@mdhavalacw is that image downloaded from the resin dashboard? If yes, have you set the wifi credentials there?
What do you use for the mobile hotspot? Can you see there whether the device connects to the hotspot at least?

Could you try to set up the same version with a normal wifi, does that work for you?
If you use another device (ie. non-resin) to connect to the hotspot, does it work, and can use all the networking fine? Wondering if the network blocks some traffic on the hotspot.

@JockDaRock for some ideas: what base image are you using (what's your FROM ...)? Do you have INITSYSTEM set to on? What's the CMD set in your Dockerfile?
Jock Reed
@JockDaRock
Jan 24 16:26
dockerfile is this:
FROM resin/raspberrypi3-alpine-python:3

ENV INITSYSTEM on

RUN pip install --no-cache paho-mqtt RPi.Gpio

COPY . /usr/src/app
WORKDIR /usr/src/app

EXPOSE 80

CMD ["python", "player1.py"]
I know what the problem is
lol

So what happened?
Jock Reed
@JockDaRock
Jan 24 17:54
it is the Alpine image... for some reason it doesn't like that one
oddly enough I can console into the application and still use the app and it works with the GPIO pins just fine
but I have to start it manually from console
Jock Reed
@JockDaRock
Jan 24 18:02
yep it is working just fine now... thanks for checking @imrehg :smile:

Yeah, had some known issues with Alpine and INITSYSTEM on. If you are not using openarc, then would suggest removing the initsystem var, and trying it like that.

@nghiant2710 might have some progress on the core of the issue as well.

yeah, I will try it after I get through my demo next week at my conference. If it works without alpine for now I can live with that
So I will be using Resin in two places at Cisco Live in Barcelona
they will be connected to Cisco's IoT Gateways which are managed by a platform called Cisco IOx

which IOx is super similar to Resin... IOx uses yocto (but on an older 1.7.2 version if I remember right) but uses lxc for containers, not Docker

Now we do use Docker tooling to build containers, but the IOx automation extracts the rootfs to run it as an lxc under the hood

the other part is it runs on our routers that have computer modules (built in or add on)

Cisco routers specifically of course

that being said, I promote the use of Resin and Cisco IOx combined together as a good solution for IoT applications and device management as well as the network . Being and engineer and developer myself, I greatly appreciate how simple it is to use Resin and worry more about my application code then having to worry about the device

@JockDaRock that sounds very interesting project! Thanks for the kind words! Feedback is always welcome (good, bad, or ugly:)

We love hearing about other projects that do similar things to resin, and learn interesting stuff. Not sure if we had a chance to look into Cisco IOx yet ( @alisondavis17 )

Also @imrehg @alisondavis17 @phillipall , I wrote a couple of blog posts on our blog site published yesterday that intro Cisco IOx and Kinetic for IoT Gateways (managment and apps) and one about using Resin with devices. they are the first in a series and I will continue more blog posts on guides for how to use both Cisco IoT Gateways and Resin tech together.
