@ssharpjr
Calling it a day. Thanks again for all the help guys

@curcuz
good night!

@imrehg
@abelboldu you were asking about a monero node on resin, here's an example project I've put together for my hack friday. It's very basic, but seemed to have been running fine over this week https://github.com/resin-io-playground/resin-monero-node Any feedback is appreciated :) Just trying to find some monero to try the wallet out (wallet running on my laptop, and the monero node on a Raspberry Pi 3 managed on resin)
Alex Ellis
@alexellis
Hi guys - is @alexandrosm around / online?
Richard Nienhuis
@karmicthreat
@FransvanHoogstraten @shaunmulligan Had some time to get the compute module 1 going. bcm2708-rpi-cm.dtb doesn't exist so you can download that from the raspbian repo. But its minimal so it doesn't have everything to get HDMI going. If you just want something running you can copy bcm2708-rpi-b.dtb to bcm2708-rpi-cm.dtb and it will boot fine.

@imrehg
I've seen @agherzan making great progress today with the CM1 and CM3 :)
Balena team
@resinio
[Andrei Gherzan (agherzan)] @karmicthreat we will include support for both CM1 and CM3 and will have HDMI support too.
[Andrei Gherzan (agherzan)] It's coming very soon.
Richard Nienhuis
@karmicthreat
So if I wanted to do an offline update, is there a facility already built to do that?
Balena team
@resinio
[Alexandros Marinos (alexandrosm)] @karmicthreat can you give a bit more detail what you mean by "offline update"?
Richard Nienhuis
@karmicthreat
So that particular products I have in the field now can be semi-online. They can be internet connected, but frequently are not. And I need a way to update those that are not.
Such as getting a new application container on them.
Balena team
@resinio
[Alexandros Marinos (alexandrosm)] will someone be visiting those devices physically?
Richard Nienhuis
@karmicthreat
Yes. We have a wifi interface on them that can work as an access point that the user can log into and get into an internal webpage. They can currently login and upload a file that updates our application.
Balena team
@resinio
[Alexandros Marinos (alexandrosm)] @karmicthreat a resin.io user has, in a similar situation, used an intermediate (3g connected) computer to relay the updates to the devices. would that be the sort of thing you have in mind?
Richard Nienhuis
@karmicthreat
No. Doesn't really fit how our users use this. This isn't something we use internally. I'll have to see how I can modify things to support my use case. We sell to companies who then set this up in 3rd party plant. The people are are in the field dealing with these are not technical and are not going to be willing to expend too much effort.
Balena team
@resinio
[Alexandros Marinos (alexandrosm)] You are making a few too many assumptions for me to unpack over chat, send an email to sales@resin.io and the team there can help define a solution for you. Suffice to say, this doesn't have to be hard for the maintenance staff

@imregh @agherzan great to hear progress being made on CM1 and CM3, especially with those NEC TV's coming out with built-in support for CM3 :)

@resinio
[Alexandros Marinos (alexandrosm)] @GQuattrone_twitt let me get this straight -- you used a free program, asked to do something which it did as advertised, you then regretted asking to the free program to do what you asked it to do, so you join the chatroom of the company that employs its developers, on a saturday, and are being passive aggressive about the fact nobody is giving you free weekend support with a 30 minute response time for said free program that worked exactly as advertised -- do I have all of this right?
Balena team

Ben
@bshyong
Hi Resin community, I just got a Rasp Pi 3 to check out Resin and it seems quite useful and interesting.
Gergely Imreh
@imrehg
Hello Ben, glad you like it so far, long time no see :)
Ben
@bshyong
I noticed you are helping out the team! :P
So everything depends on having ResinOS installed? ie can't use Raspian
Gergely Imreh
@imrehg
ResinOS is the base (for networking and Docker), and as the Docker base image of you can use Debian/Raspbian among others). That's the trick about containerized applications - you pretty much don't have to care what's underneath, just care abput your app's container.
If you'd like to use Debian, start from the resin/raspberrypi3-debian base image in your Dockerfile, for example.
How's it going, working on any project? :)
Ben
@bshyong
yup just started today
working on a mirror; I can send you more details offline :sparkles:
so it sounds like to try Resin I need to start with the bootable image
can't have some existing OS and try to add Resin after the fact
Gergely Imreh
@imrehg
Yeah, it can be a bit upside-down feeling first to put everything you need in a config (the Dockerfile) and not caring what the os does
https://docs.resin.io/raspberrypi3/nodejs/getting-started/ here s a getting started guide with some more pointers
And definitley wanna hear about smart mirrors ;)
Balena team
@resinio
[Andrei Gherzan (agherzan)] @kipe didn't go through, right?
Kimmo Huoman
@kipe
@agherzan nope, didn't go... but that issue seems to be gone, now just the "regular issue" with debian mirrors, if installing a lot of packages in a single command
Balena team
@resinio
[Andrei Gherzan (agherzan)] Hmm... @Page- do you have any idea what is going on here?
Kimmo Huoman
@kipe
as I said, the issue I mentioned earlier is gone, now the build is starting
debian httpredir just not working again :P
... should really change to use just one specific mirror
Gergely Imreh
@imrehg
@agherzan it was mentioned in the forums too https://forums.resin.io/t/remote-error-file-write-error-no-space-left-on-device/524 (cc @brownjohnf @lifeeth )
@kipe yeah, that's very annoying, I'm just adding this line before the first apt-get myself: RUN sed -i "s!httpredir.debian.org!ftp.us.debian.org!" /etc/apt/sources.list
The build server is in the US, so that should work well. We should probably run a resin mirror ourselves, if I really think about it, but hopeing that there are some easier / less maintenance solutions :P
Balena team
@resinio
[Praneeth Bodduluri (lifeeth)] Didnt check the forums
